Year 2021 continued to present significant challenges to our country and to the national economy. In addition to the wide-ranging pandemic-related problems we have been facing supply chain issues, worker shortages, and inflation pressures among other things. In this environment, long-term planning becomes a challenge that requires great teamwork, communication, coordination of efforts among all levels of employees and volunteers.
Серйозні виклики для нашої країни та національної економіки продовжили з’являтися у 2021 році. На додаток до численних проблем, пов’язаних з пандемією, ми, серед іншого, стикалися зі складнощами у ланцюгах поставок, нестачею працівників та інфляційним тиском. У такій ситуації довгострокове планування стає викликом, що вимагає злагодженої командної роботи, комунікації, координації зусиль працівників і волонтерів на всіх рівнях.

A Message from the President & CEO (cont.) Our most significant achievement this year, as in 2020, is that all our employees are safe and healthy in the midst of the worldwide pandemic. The leadership of our credit union has dedicated earnest efforts to keep our team and our members safe. We were proactive in helping numerous members overcome the negative consequences of the crisis – waiving various fees, loan payment modifications, PPP loans, etc. UFCU is not just a financial institution – a great part of our work is our community involvement. In 2020-2021 we also applied, obtained and distributed $350,000 in SBRG grants to New York state based non-profit organizations that suffered a decline in their revenues due to the pandemic. The grants were funded by Federal Home Bank of New York, where our credit union is a member. Most of our common bond churches and organizations obtained these grants, along with other prominent non-profits such as Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Bivona Child Advocacy Center, The Little Theatre, Rochester Broadway Theatre League, and many others. The credit union hosted multiple community guests and delegations and provided offices and volunteers for Ukrainian consulate services in several UFCU branch locations. All this was done in compliance with local guidance on COVID protection. Financially, UFCU’s 2021 performance has also been impressive. In the first nine months, the assets grew by 7% and were at $335 million. Our loan team increased our loan portfolio by 10%, especially real estate loans, as our members were taking advantage of low mortgage rates. Membership continues growing, and net income is getting close to a $3 million mark. We would like to thank our members for their business, trust, and support in our Ukrainian Federal Credit Union.

UFCU is a federally regulated and federally insured financial institution. In 2021, National Credit Union Administration held a regular examination of our credit union. The results confirmed that UFCU is a safe a sound organization, and that all our records, processes, policies, and procedures are in compliance with applicable regulations. In September, we held our Annual Meeting of our membership, where our officials presented their annual reports. The board of director’s nomination process was exercised and resulted in the same Board composition as last year. As we are getting ready to hold our strategic planning session, the goals for the next several years will include expanding our services to new markets and retaining our entire service team. Our goal remains the same, to provide you with the highest level of customer service and satisfaction along with creating value, for your membership, in our democratic, cooperative financial institution. In closing, we extend warm wishes to you, your families, and friends for a joyous and healthy holiday celebration and a happy, prosperous new year!
Цього року, як і 2020, найважливішим своїм досягненням ми вважаємо те, що в розпал всесвітньої пандемії всі наші співробітники здорові й убезпечені. Керівництво нашої кредитної спілки докладає великих зусиль для убезпечення нашої команди, а також членів. Ми активно допомагали багатьом членам долати негативні наслідки кризи – скасосували різні комісії, вносили зміни у графіки погашень кредитів, надавали кредити в рамках федеральної Програми захисту заробітньої плати та ін. Українська федеральна кредитна спілка (УФКС) – це не лише фінансова установа, велика частина нашої роботи – це залученість до життя громади. У 2020–2021 роках ми також подали заявки на Грантову програму для відновлення малого бізнесу, отримали та розподілили 350 000 доларів у вигляді грантів для неприбуткових організацій штату Нью-Йорк, що зазнали зменшення доходів через пандемію. Гранти були профінансовані Federal Home Bank of New York, членом якого є наша кредитна спілка. Їх отримали більшість церков та організацій, що пов'язані з нами спільною ознакою членства, а також інші відомі неприбуткові організації, як-от Філармонічний оркестр м.Рочестер, Центр захисту дітей Bivona, The Little Theatre, Бродвейська театральна ліга м.Рочестер та багато інших. Кредитна спілка приймала гостей та делегації з нашої громади, а також надала свої приміщення та волонтерів для забезпечення консульських послуг України в декількох відділеннях УФКС. Все це було реалізовано відповідно до місцевих інструкцій щодо запобігання поширенню COVID. Що стосується фінансового аспекту нашої діяльності, результати УФКС у 2021 році також були вражаючими. За перші дев’ять місяців активи зросли на 7% і становили 335 мільйонів доларів. Наша команда з кредитування збільшила кредитний портфель на 10%, особливо зросла частка
кредитів на нерухомість, адже наші члени користувалися перевагами низьких іпотечних ставок. Наше членство продовжує зростати, а чистий дохід наближається до позначки в 3 мільйони доларів. Ми хочемо подякувати нашим за їхню діяльність, підтримку та довіру до нашої Української федеральної кредитної спілки. УФКС — це фінансова установа, регулювання та страхування депозитів якої здійснюється на федеральному рівні. У 2021 році Національна адміністрація кредитних спілок провела регулярну перевірку нашої кредитної спілки. Результати підтвердили, що УФКС є безпечною та надійною організацією, а всі наші процеси, політики, процедури й облік відповідають чинним нормам законодавства. У вересні ми провели Річні збори нашого членства, де керівництво спілки представило річні звіти. Було здійснено процедуру призначення ради директорів, в результаті якої склад ради залишився тим самим, що й минулого року. Готуючись до проведення сесії стратегічного планування, можемо сказати, що наші цілі на наступні декілька років включатимуть поширення послуг на нові ринки та збереження всієї нашої команди зі служби підтримки. Наша мета залишається незмінною – забезпечити для вас найвищий рівень клієнтського обслуговування та задоволення, одночасно створюючи цінність вашого членства в нашій фінансовій установі, що працює на демократичних і кооперативних засадах. На завершення бажаємо вам, вашим родинам та друзям радісних і здорових святкувань, а також щасливого й благополучного нового року!

From outdoor picnics to proclamations and flag raisings to reflections, our Ukrainian Federal Credit Union (UFCU) was embedded in a variety of celebrations. In this issue of Dumka we’d like to highlight the Rochester Ukrainian American community, who
under the leadership of Tamara Denysenko, UFCU Board Member, coordinated a string of events over the course of a week leading up to August 24th. Dnipro City officials, Olexandr Sanzhara, City Council Secretary; Nataliya Cherneshova, Director of the Department of Economic Affairs,
International Cooperation, and Investments; Oleh Repan, Director of the Museum DNIPRO, presented a Letter of Greeting from Dnipro City Mayor Borys A. Filatov to the Towns of Irondequoit and Webster, where UFCU has its two local branches. In addition to acknowledging
Ukraine’s independence, the community spent the evening of August 24th learning about and celebrating the vision of the late Wolodymyr “Mirko” Pylyshenko and the Ukrainian Rochester Collection at the University of Rochester. Mirko spent a considerable portion of his
life archiving the history of Ukrainians in the Rochester area, and we are forever in his debt for documenting life as it was for our benefit. Visit our YouTube channel for full length coverage of events in Rochester this past year.

Giving Back
In 2020 Ukrainian Federal Credit Union (UFCU) applied for and received $200,000 in grant funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLBNY*) as part of a COVID-19 financial relief program.

UFCU then allocated those funds to 47 different grantees across 9 counties in New York including various cultural centers, churches, museums, art foundations, youth associations, and other volunteer organizations. The program is intended to support the financial security and health of workers employed by organizations that have suffered a decrease in revenue as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
In 2021 UFCU reapplied for and received an additional $150,000 in grant funding from the FHLBNY as a continuation of the COVID-19 financial relief program. In this issue of Dumka we highlight 11 new grantees who collectively received $50,000 during the summer of 2021. Eligibility in 2021 is limited to organizations in New York that did not yet receive grant funding.

When in doubt, throw it out
Think before you act
Cybercriminals attempt to compromise your information through links and attachments in email, text messages, social posts, and online advertising. It is generally safe to open emails, but be vigilant about how you interact with the content included. Mark as “junk” or delete if something appears suspicious.
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Be careful with communications from unexpected and unverified sources that seek your immediate action.

3 Unique account, unique passphrase Having the same passphrase for all of your accounts might be convenient for you, but it’s a treasure trove for cybercriminals. Create and maintain different passphrases for your accounts – with at least 10 characters with uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a symbol – and do not share with anyone.
4 Layer your login Implement the strongest authentication tools available, such as fingerprints, security keys or a unique one-time code. Your username and passphrase alone might not be enough to keep a cybercriminal from accessing your personal and financial information.
