STARTEN MET BUCKLE UP! Welkom in Buckle Up!

1

Hoe zit een unit van Buckle Up! in elkaar?

Het leerwerkboek bestaat uit 8 units.

VA N

IN

Je start met Once upon a time.

five

In Time to practise oefen je de leerstof in op jouw niveau. Afhankelijk van je resultaat ga je die herhalen (Time to catch up) of verdiepen (Time to get ahead). Een handig kader helpt je daarbij.

BUCKLE UP!

starten met buckle up!

5

Daarna is het aan jou: Your time!

IN

BUCKLE UP!

IN

IN

You already know Sam. She is my best friend. There is also Morgan. She has got medium length, straight, blond hair and grey eyes. She is always next to me in 5 French. I think she can be very bossy. Her best friend is Grace. She can sing very well. One of the funniest boys in class is Nathan. He has got short, red hair and brown eyes. He starts every lesson with a joke. The most sporty pupil in my class is Ali. He runs 10 km after school.

©

Mr Jones, our English teacher, always touches his moustache when the class 10 laughs at Nathan’s jokes. It’s funny because he is bald. He is also overweight. Sometimes he tells a joke himself. Ms Green, our PE teacher, is his wife. I think she is very beautiful. My favourite teacher is Ms King. She is the one who has got long, brown hair. She is very thin. She always helps me when I have a problem. She is Mr King’s sister. He is our head master. He has got the longest beard I have ever 15 seen!

Hi rikOna. My mornings look like most teenagers’ mornings, I think. Every morning I wake up at a quarter to seven. When I get up, I first go to the bathroom to wash my face. Then I brush my hair and I get dressed. At five past seven I go downstairs to have breakfast. I always eat cereals with milk. Ten minutes later I go upstairs to brush my teeth. Before I leave for school at half past seven, I check my schoolbag. The bus stop is just around the corner. I arrive at school at about ten past eight, twenty minutes before school starts. My favourite school subject is science. I love doing experiments. I really like doing field trips and seeing the leaf structure under a microscope. I don’t like maths. It is not easy for me to count all these numbers.

Lots of pupils don’t like this subject, but I really like French. It’s the most beautiful language in the world I think, n’est-ce pas? The subject I really hate is history. I don’t understand why we have to study all these dates and facts of things that happened a long time ago.

How to organise a schoolbag?

1

Remove everything from your bag and throw out the rubbish. Take everything out of your schoolbag, even if you know that you need it. Make sure all of the pockets are empty too. Throw out all the rubbish.

2

Gather all the items you need to take to school. If you’re not sure what you need to take, check the school supply list from your teachers. The typical things to keep in your schoolbag include: books, binders or folders, pencil case, calculator, lunchbox and water bottle, house key, tissues, sports gear or PE uniform, mobile phone (if you have one).

3

VA N

4

rubbish: afval gather: verzamel a tissue: zakdoek crumpled: verfrommeld important: belangrijk a convenient time: geschikt tijdstip

IN

Put all your pens, pencils, and other writing tools into a pencil case. It will be much easier to grab a pen, pencil, or highlighter, if it’s in a pencil case, than if it's floating around loose somewhere in your schoolbag. Other items you might want to put in a pencil case include a ruler, a rubber, coloured pencils, markers, sticky notes, tape, scissors, glue and a pencil sharpener.

Put old papers in a binder to leave at home. There’s no need to take all the papers for the entire year with you to school every day. Get a big binder with tabs for each class to keep your old assignments organized at home.

5

©

Colour-code your school supplies to stay organised. Pick a colour for each subject, such as green for science, blue for maths and purple for English. This will help you pull out the right school supplies easily in class. Tip: You can use the same colour code to write down your timetable as well.

6

Sort the papers you need to take to school into folders or a binder. There shouldn’t be any loose papers in your backpack, because they’ll get crumpled and be hard to find when you need them.

7

Clean your backpack again every week. Set aside one time every week when you clean out your backpack again. It’s important to clean out your backpack regularly to rescue any food or papers you may have stuffed in there while in a rush.

one hundred and twenty-four

Tip: Convenient times to clean out your backpack could be Friday afternoon, when you get home from school, or Sunday evening, while you’re getting ready for the new week.

It isn’t winter anymore. You could just wear this orange cardigan and this blue hat. Oh no! I’m going to stay inside. Thanks for your advice anyway. Do you like it? Of course I do. Hi Sam! How are you? Hi Dario! I’m fine. Did you receive my invitation? I did! Thank you for the invitation! Well, can you come to my party? When is the party? Dario ... it’s written on the invitation. Right, Saturday the twenty-eighth of April? I’ll have to check the calendar. No Dario, you have to let me know if you can come by that date. The party is on the twelfth of May. I think we’re free. There’s a wedding the week before and a housewarming party the week after. Cool! I will write your name on our birthday calendar. You know there is a chance I will forget to wish you a happy birthday. How sweet of you! But you will have to write it on the fourteenth then. My birthday is on a Monday. I can’t throw a party on a school day, right? That’s right. But what are your plans for today? Well, … Sam? Hello? Are you there?

Hey guys! Did you know it’s the last week of the school year? Already? Wow, time has flown by! Do you know what I heard? No, tell me! (sings) Tell me more, tell me more. Hahaha, you are so funny! Mr Jones is going to retire. What does retire mean? Is he tired? Dario, it means he will stop working. He has worked long enough. He’s such a great teacher. We should do something for him. Let’s throw a farewell party. When? Our last English lesson with him is on Thursday. Is that the 26th of June? No, it’s the 27th. Great plan. Let’s send a WhatsApp message to invite the rest of the class. Dario More important question: Who will bring the food? Grace Can I bring some cupcakes? My sister can decorate them very well! Dario Yummy! I’ll bring some lemonade, the perfect summer drink. And I’ll make a cool card. Any ideas? Sam Dario Oh! I know! Draw a cardigan and a moustache on the card! Ha ha. Nathan He always said I am as crazy as a little monkey. You could use that? Grace Nice! All we need now is some music. Nathan How about ‘Irreplaceable’ by Beyoncé? Dario Can’t we use that song to make one about him? Or what about that song we heard in his class? Sam Dario I can’t remember that song.
