The Adventures Of the Brave Knightness Janneke Schotveld, illustrations Milja Praagman A collection of exciting stories about a brave woman Perfect to read out loud, and beautifully illustrated by Milja Praagman Over 10,000 copies have already been sold She had already been different from the other children when she was a baby. From a very young age, she would stand up for the weak, no bullying in her presence. No side wheels for her either, she taught herself how to ride a bike. Nor did she need swimming lessons. It was clear that she would never become a hairdresser, dentist, professor or bee-keeper. No, she would become a knightness, the bravest knightness of the whole country. The Adventures Of the Brave Knightness is a collection of exciting and humorous stories about a heroic woman who returns lions to the zoo, catches purse snatchers and rescues bakers from trees.

Janneke Schotveld worked at a special needs school for over 12 years, but she is now a full-time writer. Janneke's books are always filled with humour and imagination. In 2012, she won the Prijs van de Nederlandse Kinderjury for Super Miss!. Milja Praagman is a successful illustrator and writer of children’s books. Thé’s qualities: a good eye for detail, a precise drawing pen and a warm sense of humour. – The jury of the ‘Zilveren Penseel’ award on The Tjong-Khing's Where is the cake?

Shouldn’t I Know That?

hannes van lier

Hannes van Lier Freshen up your general knowledge without checking Wikipedia Learn about everyday facts that you haven’t given any thought yet

Hoor ik DIT niet

Nice gift book for curious know-it-alls Do you know the difference between port side and starboard? Is a major superior to a captain? And what do you know about the different layers of the atmosphere? If you don’t remember the answers to the questions above, that’s no longer an issue in today’s smartphone age, as you can now very easily search for those things online. But this omnipresence of the Internet has made our brains lazy. Because why would we want to remember things when we can look up things so quickly? Anyhow, that was Hannes van Lier’s starting point, to challenge himself and actively question all the things he comes across: ‘Do I get this?’ ‘Can I explain this?’ or ‘Am I not supposed to know this?’ He’s now made an overview of all kinds of fun facts that you are expected to know as an adult, but also things of which you may sometimes have to admit that you don’t remember them or can’t explain them. It’s a subjective guide of all the things he’s come across. So relatable!

The (Un)usual Story of Bo (and Tom)

Features on IBBY's list of 'Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities 2021'

Tineke Honingh About friendship, confidence and the power of language Shines a different light on physically disabled people A heartwarming story about two children dealing with their problems instead of running away from them It isn’t that easy to leave the past behind. 12-year-old Bo moves out of the city into an old farm on the edge of a village. A new environment, a new school. She’s looking forward to it – and dreading it. Everything depends on that first day of school. And it ends up being a disaster. Just when Bo starts to believe that it’ll all just be the same as in her previous school, she meets Tom. Thanks to Tom’s bravado and boldness, Bo discovers that with a touch of courage you can suddenly be much more than anyone has ever believed you could be; that you can even surprise yourself. But when she has just started trusting Tom, he does something terrible, putting Bo’s past out into the open. Through Tom’s attempts to make it up to her, Bo discovers why he has been helping her. It’s a discovery that’ll change everything once and for all.

Tineke Honingh is a communications consultant and author, and for a while she was also a teacher. First and foremost, however, she writes stories intended for children and young adults, or short stories intended for magazines, screenplays for comic books, serials on the internet or extensive stories that end up becoming a book, such as The (Un)usual Story of Bo (and Tom), which was highly praised upon publication.
