FR L’architecture se dépasse si elle est portée par des concepteurs qui peuvent donner une valeur ajoutée au processus de construction imposé et strict. Cet esprit pour exécuter le marché avec plus d’éléments que ceux simplement décrits est plutôt exceptionnel car, en fait, il demande un travail très intense, notamment sous l’angle esthétique, et est éloigné de l’esprit commercial. Fondamentalement, il s’agit d’une analyse approfondie du contexte dans lequel le marché sera exécuté. Plus cette analyse est approfondie et plus l’auteur du projet peut déployer ses valeurs éthiques. Les circonstances déterminent donc une partie des possibilités de valeurs ajoutées non prescrites qui donneront un contenu, une signification et une forme au projet définitif. Le logement est un marché particulier pour les architectes étant donné qu’il représente l’essence de la vie quotidienne. Dans le contexte du logement, on crée l’idée selon laquelle, lorsque des individus se retirent après leur tâche journalière, l’architecture peut apporter un moment de repos et que cette architecture fonctionne comme une thérapie spatiale et humaine. L’architecture des concepteurs de l’Atelier M Architects + Planners bv.cvba/scrl est synonyme d’un doctorat imagé de pratique de l’architecture. L’oeuvre de l’atelier est familiarisée avec différentes formes de logements. L’étude des plans prouve que ce bureau consacre beaucoup d’attention aux possibilités spatiales. Les distributions structurelles prévoient aussi des possibilités à terme, ce qui fait que leur réemploi peut recevoir plus de contenu et de signification. Le caractère durable imprègne l’ensemble des réflexions des auteurs. Leur œuvre ne porte pas l’étiquette de « logements sociaux », mais montre plutôt une ouverture internationale avec une attention très grande consacrée au détail. L’analyse de leur œuvre le prouve : tous les éléments ont été étudiés et formés selon un modèle grâce auquel des valeurs ajoutées peuvent devenir essentielles dans le résultat final. Ils réussissent à éviter les clichés dans leurs réalisations et à attirer l’attention sur des caractéristiques plus contextuelles à partir de l’environnement et en fonction de l’intérêt général. Leur collaboration active à des débats sur des domaines sociaux et sociétaux prouve leur dynamisme. La complexité de l’architecture exige une équipe interne et externe interdisciplinaire qui approche la coopération de manière constructive avec des hypothèses de départ fortes. Grâce à leur belle coopération, sous la direction de l’animateur Jan Maenhout, un profil personnel et propre a été créé, un profil essentiellement belge avec une plus-value du contenu pour les occupants, le contexte et l’intérêt général.
EN Architecture transcends itself if supported by designers that bring added value to the imposed and strict construction process. The spirit to add more to the project than merely what is defined, is rather exceptional because it is in fact, very labour intensive, especially from an ethical point of view and it is far from the commercial. In essence it’s about a thorough analysis of the context in which the contract is performed. The more thoroughly this analysis takes place, the more the designer can develop his ethical values. So circumstances in part determine the possibilities for non-prescribed added value that will give the eventual project content, meaning and form. Housing is a special contract for architects because they represent the essence of everyday life. With housing, the idea arises that if individuals withdraw after their day’s work, architecture can bring a moment of rest, that architecture functions as spatial and human therapy. The architecture of Atelier M Architects + Planners bv.cvba’s designers represents a visual doctorate in architectural practice. Their body of work includes many different forms of housing. Studying the plans proves that this agency spends much attention on spatial possibilities. The structural divisions also provide opportunities in the long term, by which reuse can get more content and meaning. Sustainability runs through the whole thought process of the designers. Their oeuvre shouldn’t be labelled as ‘social housing’ but it rather shows an international openness with an exceptional amount of attention to detail. They manage to avoid clichés in their achievements and draw attention to more contextual properties from the environment and in function of the public interest. Their active participation in debates on social and societal domains, proves their drive. The complexity of architecture requires an interdisciplinary team internal and external that approaches cooperation in a constructive way, with strong starting points. A personal and private profile emerged due to their perfect cooperation, guided by founder Jan Maenhout, mainly a Belgian profile with substantial added value for residents, the context and general interest.

NL Het Centrum voor Epilepsie en Psycho-Organische Stoornissen (CEPOS) is een tweefasig project, waarbij in een eerste fase bestaande paviljoenen zowel energetisch als structureel werden gerenoveerd. In een tweede fase werd een nieuwe vleugel aan het project toegevoegd, waarin alle ontbrekende functies zitten ver vat om van CEPOS een instituut van de toekomst te maken. Deze opdracht bleek een enorme uitdaging gezien de zéér kor te termijn waarbinnen het project moest worden ontworpen, vergund en opgeleverd. Bovendien moest zowel voor de functionele organisatie als voor de technische uitrusting al tijdens fase I rekening gehouden worden met de noden van het nog onbestaande nieuwbouw paviljoen uit fase II. Op de gelijkvloerse verdieping werden eerder publieke functies voorzien met een centraal gelegen, dubbelhoge onthaalruimte, administratieve functies en gespreksruimten. Op niveau +1 zijn de meer academische functies gelegen met onder meer een auditorium, seminarielokalen en onderzoeksruimten. Op het dak bevindt zich een buitenauditorium met een prachtig zicht over het park, als een verborgen eyecatcher met zijn witte stalen luifel en witte architectuur. Net zoals in de eerste fase werd ook in de nieuwbouwvleugel sterk ingezet op energetische innovatie. De vloerplaten werden voorzien van betonkernactivering en vloer verwarming, die wordt gevoed vanuit het BEO-veld in de omliggende tuin. De gevels worden gekenmerkt door thermowood gevelplanken en wit, aluminium schrijnwerk. Door de sterk verschillende ar ticulatie van de gevels horen beide fasen architecturaal duidelijk bij elkaar, maar manifesteren ze zich elk als hun eigen entiteit. FR Le CEPOS, sigle pour Centre pour l’Epilepsie et les Troubles Psycho-Organiques, est un projet en deux phases. Au cours d’une première phase, les pavillons ont été rénovés tant sur le plan énergétique que structurel. Au cours d’une deuxième phase, une nouvelle aile a été ajoutée au projet, laquelle inclut toutes les fonctions manquantes pour faire du CEPOS un institut du futur. Ce marché ressemblait à un énorme défi étant donné le très court délai dans lequel le projet devait être élaboré, attribué et réceptionné. En outre, tant pour l’organisation fonctionnelle que pour l’équipement technique, il fallait déjà tenir compte, au cours de la phase I, des besoins de la construction du pavillon nouveau encore inexistant dans la phase II. Au rez-de-chaussée, des fonctions plutôt publiques ont été prévues avec un espace d’accueil à deux hauteurs occupant une position centrale, des fonctions administratives et des espaces d’entretien. Le niveau +1 accueille les fonctions plus académiques notamment avec un auditorium, des salles de séminaire et des locaux de recherche. Sous la toiture, on trouve un auditoire externe avec une vue magnifique sur le parc, comme un eyecatcher caché avec son auvent en acier blanc et son architecture blanche. Tout comme pour la première phase, on a également misé fortement, dans l’aile du bâtiment nouveau, sur les innovations énergétiques. Les dalles de sol ont été dotées d’une activation du noyau en béton et d’un chauffage par le plancher qui est alimenté à partir du champ SETS dans le jardin qui entoure la structure. Les façades sont caractérisées par des planches de façade en thermowood et une menuiserie en aluminium blanc. En raison de l’articulation très différente des façades, les deux phases vont bien ensemble sur le plan architectural, mais s’expriment chacune comme une entité propre. EN The Centre for Epilepsy and Psycho-Organic Disorders (CEPOS) is a two-stage project, in which existing pavilions were renovated in a first phase, both energetically and structurally. In a second phase, a new wing was added to the project, in which all missing features were included to turn CEPOS into an Institute of the future. This command turned out to be a huge challenge given the very short period of time within which the project had to be designed, licensed and delivered. In addition, the needs of the still non-existent new Pavilion of phase II had to be taken into account, both for the functional organization as well as the technical set-up during phase I. On the ground floor, previously public functions were given a centrally located double high reception area, administrative functions and discussion areas. The more academic functions are located on level + 1, including an auditorium, seminar rooms and research rooms. There is an outdoor auditorium on the rooftop with a magnificent view over the park, a hidden eye-catcher with its white steel canopy and white architecture. Just like the first phase, the new wing was also strongly aimed at energetic innovation. The floor slabs were fitted with concrete core activation and floor heating that is fed from the BEO field in the surrounding garden. The façades are characterized by thermal wood façade boards and white aluminium joinery. The strongly differing articulation of the façades ensures both phases fit together, but each clearly manifest itself architecturally as its own identity.
