Eat Normally

You don’t need to fast. Eat and drink as usual, but avoid very fatty meals or alcohol for 8–12 hours before the test, as these can temporarily raise triglyceride levels.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water.

Take Medications

Take your regular medications unless your doctor says otherwise.

Bring Medical Information

Bring a list of your medications and supplements. If it’s your first test, know your family history of heart disease or cholesterol issues.

Fast for 8–12 Hours Before the Test

Do not eat or drink anything except water. Fasting usually starts the night before a morning test. Eat a normal dinner the night before.

Drink Water

Water is encouraged to stay hydrated and make blood collection easier.

Avoid Before the Test

No coffee, tea, juice, or other drinks, even without sugar

No chewing gum, mints, or smoking

No strenuous exercise in the morning (it can affect blood sugar)

Take Medications Only as Directed

Some medications affect glucose levels. Ask your doctor if you should take your regular medications before the test.
