Departmental Well-Being Checklist
BE A LEADER IN WELL-BEING
Anyone can be a leader in promoting a culture of well-being. Employees who are given opportunities to enhance their well-being are healthier and happier, which leads to greater engagement and satisfaction at work.
Your Well-Being Matters Well-being at the University of Iowa is fostered by an environment that promotes healthy and purposeful living for all campus members.
Contribute to the culture of health in your department: Encourage faculty/staff to complete the Personal Health Assessment (PHA). PHA supports campus, departmental, and individual well-being. Promote the Well-Being Program Guide. Take time to practice your own self-care. Engage in daily movement, mindfulness, and breaks. Connect with a liveWELL Health Coach for support with a personalized plan.
Start meetings with 5 minutes dedicated to a well-being topic. Explore the Well-Being Resource Library for tools and activities. Create a wellness committee to provide input to the Wellness Ambassador and departmental leadership. Dedicate a bulletin board or Microsoft Teams chat to well-being programs and services. Use the Monthly Bulletin Board materials on the Departmental Well-Being Toolbox page. Promote lifelong learning via trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities like Well-Being Workshops and opportunities through Learning and Development. Promote workplace flexibility to support time for exercise, work/life needs, family priorities, and other interests that are valued by each individual. Try activities through Recreational Services to support campus movement, like an instructor-led class through Private Group Fitness. Check in on your mental well-being. Utilize the free and confidential counseling resource through UI Employee Assistance Program. Notice your colleagues and check in regularly. Participate in QPR training or use R U OK? resources.
