Certificate in Travel Industry Management–prepares non-TIM major students for careers in the travel industry and gives working professionals the opportunity to expand or update their skills in travel industry management.

TOURISM IN HAWAI ‘ I

Tourism is at the heart of Hawai‘i’s economy, as the largest non-government sector in the state. In 2019, there were 216,000 jobs supported by the tourism industry.

More than 9.5 million national and international visitors came to the Aloha State in 2023. TIM School students come from all walks of life and from just about every corner of the globe. This unique blend of culture and varying perspectives adds value in the classroom and stays with students as

they enter the workforce. Developing a strong global acumen is an asset to future travel and tourism industry leaders.

TIM School students become connected to one of the most vibrant tourism centers in the world, Waikiki, just a couple of short miles from campus. Students will become immersed into the curriculum as they prepare to enter one of the largest industries in the world.

INTERNSHIPS AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The TIM School requires undergraduate students to complete two internships prior to graduation.

These internships provide students with practical, hands-on career experience, as well as opportunities to build their resumes and professional networks.

Alumni mixers, employer on-campus recruitment, career fairs and networking dinners are offered annually to support

students with their internship and career searches. An Internship and Career Development Office is available to assist students with resume and cover letter reviews, interview preperation, career pathway discussions, employer connections and more.

ABOUT SHIDLER

Founded in 1949, the college was named in 2006 after alumnus Jay H. Shidler, founder and managing partner of The Shidler Group. Since his initial gift of $25 million in 2006, Shidler has given approximately $238 million to the college, making it the largest individual donation to the University of Hawai‘i. The college is renowned for its

multicultural learning environment and its expertise in international business education, and is consistently ranked among the nation's top 25 schools for international business by U.S. News & World Report.

In 2019, the TIM School rejoined the college. Bringing a rich history which spans more than six decades. The school pioneered the concept of integrating multiple aspects of the

industry into a single discipline built on a management science foundation. Today, the Shidler College and TIM School partnership provides a robust, high-quality education to the next generation of professionals preparing to enter one of the largest industries in the world.
