Annual Holiday Concert SING-A-LONG O Come All Ye Faithful
We Need a Little Christmas
O come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant. O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem. Come and adore Him, born the king of angels Refrain: O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord. ~~ God of God, Light of Light, Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb. Very God, Begotten not created. Refrain Sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation, sing all ye citizens of heaven above. Glory to God. Glory in the highest. Refrain Yea, Lord we greet Thee, born this happy morning. Jesus to Thee be glory giv’n. Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing. Refrain
Haul out the holly, Put up the tree before my spirit falls again. Fill up the stocking, We may be rushing things, but, Deck the halls again now! For we need a little Christmas, Right this very minute; Candles in the window, carols at the spinet, Yes, we need a little Christmas, Right this very minute. It hasn’t snowed a single flurry, But Santa, dear, we’re in a hurry! So climb down the chimney, Put up the brightest string of lights I’ve ever seen. Slice up the fruitcake, It’s time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough. For we need a little music; need a little laughter; Need a little singing ringing through the rafters, And we need a little snappy “Happy ever after” We need a little Christmas now!
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Joy to the World! Joy to the world! The Lord is come: Let earth receive her King: Let ev’ry heart prepare Him room, And heav’n and nature sing. And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n and heav’n and nature sing. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love. And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders of His love.
Deck the Halls Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la la la la la. “tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la la la la la. Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la la la la la la la. Troll the ancient Yuletide carol, Fa la la la la la la la la.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, And a Happy New Year! Good Tidings we bring to you and your kin; We wish you a Merry Christmas! And a Happy New Year!

UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA BRITISH BRASS BAND PROGRAM NOTES
Three for Christmas, Kenneth Downie Three for Christmas! is a beautifully bright composition by Kenneth Downie based on three much-loved carols. The work opens with a bright and joyful rendition of the Sussex Carol, which is quickly followed by a more reflective and tender setting of the English melody for Away in a Manger, featuring solo cornet, flugel and trombone. The third movement is a lively and upbeat version of the tune Iris (Angels from the Realms of Glory) which brings the piece to a triumphant conclusion. Personent Hodie, Joel Collier This piece is based on a 14th century Medieval song, celebrating the birth of Christ. After a brief intro of the theme, it expounds by taking on the flavor of a “riverdance.” The common 20th century translation, On This Day Earth Shall Ring, highlights the songs of the children and the angels in the first and last verses, yet tells of the lowly nature of the manger scene in the second. These three verses are the framework for this arrangement. On this day, earth shall ring with the song children sing to the Lord, Christ our King, born on earth to save us;
Him the Father gave us. Id-e-o-o-o, id-e-o-o-o, Id-e-o gloria in excelsis Deo!

LET US KNOW HOW WE’RE DOING... AND WIN! This year, the Hugh Hodgson School of Music has been trying new ways to let you know about our performances, concerts, shows, and events. Maybe one of those methods bought you here this evening. We hope so! In an effort to continue to improve our outreach, we’d like your help. Please take less than five minutes to fill out a brief survey by scanning the QR code below. We will be asking the following question: How did you hear about this or other School of Music concerts and events? That’s it. That’s all we want to know. You are welcome to submit the survey anonymously. But, if you also leave us your email, we will put you into a raffle to win two free “All Festival Passes” for our upcoming Chamber Music Athens Festival. This six-concert event May 12-21, 2024, will feature nine internationally acclaimed guest artists alongside our faculty and student musicians. Please take no more than five minutes to let us know how you have heard of our concerts this season.
