MEN’S GLEE CLUB Meremehe-laul (Sailor’s Song) Paul-Eerik Rummo (1909-1970) (Original language: Estonian) See, while sailing we had fun when the mast was bent. The ship was flying like the Maker’s bird, white foam abreast. We reached the town of Riga and asked for the dances where the maiden would dance. for us on the edge of the stone bridge, That’s the way a sailor, too, must keep climbing up the mast. And once you drop into the water, no one will be able to rescue you. No one will provide a grave for you, nor carry you to the church yard the pike will yawn on your grave and the roach will make a shiny coffin nail.

I’m A-Rollin American Spiritual (author unknown) I’m a-rollin’ I’m a-rollin’ through an unfriendly world Oh brothers won’t you help me, Oh brothers won’t you help me to pray, Oh brothers won’t you help me in the service of the Lord Oh sisters won’t you help me, Oh sister won’t you help me to pray, Oh sisters won’t you help me in the service of the Lord Roll Jordan, Won’t you help me, Help me to pray .. Brothers and sisters oh won’t you help me to pray, You know that I’m trying to cross over Jordan As I’m rollin’ Through and unfriendly world.

Amen, the hook and off-gone herrings. The Pasture Robert Frost (1874-1963) I’m going out to clean the pasture spring; I’ll only stop to rake the leaves away (And wait to watch the water clear, I may): I sha’n’t be gone long. You come too

I’m going out to fetch the little calf That’s standing by the mother. It’s so young, it totters when she licks it with her tongue. I sha’n’t be gone long. You come too.

Sérénade Italienne Text by Paul Bourget (1852-1935)

(Original language: French) Let’s go embark on the sea To spend the night under the stars. Look! The wind is blowing just enough To puff out the canvas sails. The old Italian fisherman And his two sons, who steer us, Listen but do not make any sense Of the words out mouths utter

On the dark, serene sea, lookWe can exchange souls, And no one will understand our voices Except the night, the sky, and the swells of the water.

MEN’S GLEE CLUB Loch Lomond Traditional Scottish Song (author uknown) By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes, Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond, Where me and me true love were ever wont to gae, On the bonnie, bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond.

Oh ye’ll take the high road an’ I’ll take the low road, An’ I’ll be in Scottland afore ye, But me and me true love will never meet again, On the bonnie bonnie banks o’Loch Lomond.

Oh ye’ll take the high road an’ I’ll take the low road, An’ I’ll be in Scottland afore ye, But me and me true love will never meet again, On the bonnie bonnie banks o’Loch Lomond.

The wee birdies sing and the wildflowers spring, And in sunshine the waters lie sleeping, But the broken heart will kenae second spring again, And the world knows not how we are grieving.

‘Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen, On the steep, steep sides of Ben Lochmond, Where deep in purple hue the Highlands we view, And the moon comin’ out in the gloamin’.

Oh ye’ll take the high road an’ I’ll take the low road, An’ I’ll be in Scottland afore ye, But me and me true love will never meet again, On the bonnie bonnie banks o’Loch Lomond

WOMEN’S GLEE CLUB Hymn to the Waters (from Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Op. 26) Gustav Holst (1874-1934) Flowing from the firmament forth to the ocean, Healing all in earth and air, never halting. Indra, Lord of Heav’n formed their courses, Indra’s mighty laws can never be broken. Cleansing waters flow ye on, hasten and help us. Lo, in the waters, dwelleth One, Knower of all on earth and sea, Whose dread command no man may shun, Varuna, sovran Lord is He.

Onward, ye waters, onward hie, Dance in the bright beams of the sun, Obey the ruler of the sky Who dug the path for you to run. Flowing from the firmament forth to the ocean, Healing all in earth and air, never halting. Indra, Lord of Heav’n formed their courses, Indra’s mighty laws can never be broken. Cleansing waters flow ye on, hasten and help us.

Let the River Run, Carly Simon (b. 1943) Let the river run, Let all the dreamers wake the nation,

We’re coming to the edge, Running on the water,

Come, the New Jerusalem.

Coming through the fog, Your sons and daughters.

Silver cities rise; The morning lights the streets that meet them And sirens call them on with a song. It’s asking for the taking, Trembling, shaking. Oh, my heart is aching.

Let the river run, Let all the dreamers wake the nation, Come, the New Jerusalem.

WOMEN’S GLEE CLUB The Lake Isle of Innisfree, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet’s wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart’s core. moon goddess, Original Text by Enheduanna (2286 - 2251 BCE) O my lady, on hearing your sound, hills and flatlands bow.

roar as a roaring storm, thunder and keep thundering, and snort with evil winds.

O my lady, guardian of all the great essences, you have picked them up and hung them on your hand.

O primary one, moon goddess Inanna of heaven and earth!

You are lofty like Heaven. Let the world know! You are wide like the earth. Let the world know!

On your harp of sighs I hear your dirge.

You strike everything down in battle. O my lady, on your wings you hack away the land and charge disguised as a charging storm,

O my lady, this song has made you great and exalted you. O my lady, wife of An, I have told your fury!

WOMEN’S GLEE CLUB desert song (She’s Calling), Lyrics by säje I bet when you see the ocean You’re drawn to the strength inside the waves. But if you get caught within the ocean The undertow will have you lose your way.

Someday you will reach the desert Held by the warmth within the skies. Breathe in the exhale of the desert And see yourself reflected in her eyes.

I bet when you reach the ocean Can’t wait to sink your toes into the sand. Instead, you will sink into the ocean And watch your heart move slowly from your hands.

The moment you reach the desert You realize she’s been singing a song of life and love. To your surprise you’re singing with the desert. You’ve always known the words to sing along.

She’s calling...

You have a voice to share your song. You’re coming home where you belong.

COMBINED GLEE CLUBS Stand in that River, Moira Smiley (b. 1976) I went to the river But my river was dry. The dust rose up To a darkened sky. Tell me, where is hope? Where do the waters run clear? I do not know my way from here. Come, and stand in that river, Current, gentle and slow! Send your troubles down water, Down on that water flow. When you stand in that river, Angels sing in your head. Secrets beyond every worry, Dreams beyond every dread!

Come, and stand in that river... When you stand in that river Angels sing in your head. Secrets beyond every worry, Dreams beyond every dread Tell me, sister, Tell me, brother, Where does that river flow? It flows down to the great water, Where soon my people will go. Oh, time passes, Passes on down the stream. Some days are so much sweeter. Some days, some pass like a dark dream. Come, and stand in that river...

Tell me, sister, brother, Where does that river flow? It flows down to the great water, Where soon my people will go.

Come, and stand in that river...
