Daniel Hieber is the Grand Prize winner of UC Santa Barbara’s 2015 Grad Slam competition for his three-minute talk on efforts to revive the Chitimacha language in the Louisiana bayou. As UCSB’s Champion, he went on to compete in the UC-wide Grad Slam, where he took second place. He enjoys such activities as rock climbing at Santa Barbara Rock Gym; running; yoga; and karate, which he started doing at the age of 13. Hieber holds a third degree black belt in the sport.
