Chancellor’s Leadership Class The Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) is a selective university honors program designed to create effective leaders at the undergraduate level. CLC scholars contribute over 5,000 hours of community service a year, take a sequence of leadership courses, and each receive a $4,000 annual scholarship. A 3.5 GPA for freshmen and a 3.0 GPA for transfer students is required.

You’ll find grassy open spaces that invite you outside to study. Mountain trails meander around and through campus. Some of your learning will be outside your classrooms as you check out more of what it means to be in Colorado. The S.O.L.E. Center, located in the campus recreation building, organizes a full calendar of outdoor events and learning sessions. From basic bicycle maintenance and repair to ski safety, you will add knowledge beyond the classroom. life Live on Campus All residence halls at UCCS are suite-style, not dorms. You will share living space with a maximum of three other students. Be close to your classes, eat at The Lodge, attend special events, and park on campus. With several floor plans, you’ll find a suite that fits your idea of campus living at UCCS. You can choose a private room and bath if you treasure your personal space. Or, maybe you prefer to share a common living room and have your own bedroom. Both are options at UCCS. Summit Village houses most freshmen, who are now required to live on campus for their first year at UCCS. Summit Village includes nine separate houses named for Colorado ski areas. The two newest, Copper and Eldora, opened in Fall 2013. Alpine Village includes three buildings and offers apartment suites for transfer students, sophomores, and above.

athletics Reach Higher. Compete. UCCS has 14 Division II men’s and women’s athletic teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, one of the most competitive conferences in the country. Women’s Golf was added this year and over the past few years several teams have gained national recognition. Men’s Golf has consistently been ranked in the Top 25 Division II teams, the Women’s Cross Country team has competed in the NCAA Championships the past two seasons, and the Men’s Basketball team made its first trip to the national tournament this past season.

For those who aren’t playing varsity sports, there are several other athletic opportunities available for students. UCCS has 13 club teams, including Baseball, Cycling, Men’s and Women’s Rugby, and Inline Hockey, the defending national champions. We also offer 17 intramural sports so you can compete and have fun. Options include Soccer, Basketball, Dodgeball, Kickball, and Canoe Battleship.

Colorado Springs, a mid-sized city of 500,000-plus residents, is small enough to still be friendly, but large enough to attract nationally known performers, speakers, and events. And, plenty of outdoor activities…all year long! Beyond the campus boundaries, UCCS connects to the vibrant community of Colorado Springs in a number of ways. In fact, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) named UCCS a national leader in community engagement efforts.

Nationally recognized Garden of the Gods is a city park, located in Colorado Springs, with astonishing geologic wonders of uplifted limestone and sandstone formations. In 2014, the park was named best park in the United States by reviewers on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Attractions website. When you are on campus, look west and you will see a collection of huge red rocks at the base of the mountains. That’s Garden of the Gods. Stop by and you will probably see UCCS students hiking trails, climbing rock faces in the park, or just taking in the view.
Palmer Park, another semi-wild open space in the city, faces UCCS on the eastern border of campus. Students often hike up twisted and eroded rocky ledges and outcroppings to catch breathtaking views of Colorado Springs and the mountains. More hiking trails and walkways lead south and north from campus into local neighborhoods where older students live in shared houses and condos.
Just west of campus, a greenway along Fountain Creek and the University Village Center (UVC) across Nevada Blvd. beckon students to join the UVC running club and eat Chipotle. Students access this area via a Mountain Lion underpass beneath Nevada Blvd. Check it out. It brings you directly to burgers, pizza, and gelato!
Along the north Nevada Blvd. corridor, you will find a current and future partnership between UCCS and the medical, performing arts, and sports communities within Colorado Springs. In 2014, the first of seven medical and health sciences buildings, the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences, opened. It houses five community clinics, and a branch of the CU School of Medicine occupies the fourth floor of the building. Future, long-term plans will expand the development of the North Campus to include athletic facilities and a performing arts complex.

With over 50 miles of terrain, the Greenway ranges from a challenging trek over steep inclines to a gentle city bike trail connecting with downtown shops and restaurants. Garden of the Gods Park and the slopes of Pikes Peak create a backdrop for even more trails and open space to keep you moving!
Test Drive Your Career Participate in an internship or volunteer. With two major hospital systems, a minor league baseball franchise, and sports organizations from local parks and recreation to the Olympic level, Colorado Springs provides ample opportunities for UCCS students to test out their chosen careers.
Take a Campus Break Connect with the local community. Check out local coffee shops and Internet cafes for great off-campus study spots. Uniquely Colorado restaurants are perfect for relaxing and meeting up with your new friends. You’ll find lots of options near campus at the University Village Center and downtown along Tejon Street.

Multiple movie theater outlets offer up the latest films and indie releases. The Pikes Peak Center and Broadmoor World Arena are just two local venues for nightlife that includes music, dancing, and art events.

Three Ways to Visit UCCS
Taking a tour is the best way to truly experience our culture. We have three ways you can visit our campus: Daily Campus Tours, Mountain Lion Experience Days, or a virtual tour. Campus Tours Schedule a visit to walk the campus with a student guide during our daily group tours. You will have the opportunity to meet with an admissions counselor and see our suite-style housing, state-of-the-art library and science labs, human-powered workout machines at the rec center, classrooms, and our view of Pikes Peak. Campus visits are complimentary and last approximately two hours, including a half-hour overview presentation, followed by a 90-minute walk through campus.
Mountain Lion Experience Days Imagine spending a day at UCCS with your peers who share in the same academic interests as you. Mountain Lion Experience days are major-specific, meaning you will be able to choose a day that is devoted to a major that interests you, such as engineering, nursing, communications, or other majors. You will interact with current students, meet professors, learn about admissions, financial aid, campus housing, student life, and much more. You will also dine at The Lodge, our resident dining hall.
