Million-dollar suburbs

TWO TWEED Shire suburbs joined the million-dollar club in 2025, according to the latest PropTrack data. Tweed Heads South and Uki were two of the 41 suburbs that crossed over the seven-figure threshold last year. Tweed Heads South reached a median price of $1.1m in May 2025 while homes in the once cheap and sleepy village of Uki reached $1.13m in the same month. There are now more than 1500 suburbs and towns across the country with a median house price of $1m or more. REA Group senior economist Anne Flaherty said the three interest rates cuts in 2025 and government incentives, including the government’s five per cent deposit scheme for firsthome buyers, played a large part in rising prices. “Overall, we’re anticipating property prices are going to continue to rise in 2026 but we’re not predicting the same level of growth,” she said. “Interest rates look like they’re going to hold steady for longer now too.” Ms Flaherty said the uptake in the five per cent deposit scheme was also bringing up prices in cheaper areas. Property prices have risen for 11 consecutive months since the series of interest rate cuts began last year but many economists are predicting the next move on rates may be up, as inflation begins to rise again, which

could slow growth. However, even without any rate cuts, the latest realestate.com.au Property Market Outlook, predicts annual home price growth of between six and eight per cent nationally, and as much as 10 per cent growth in Brisbane and Perth.
