Real Estate FROM COAST TO COUNTRY
Bilambil is little slice of paradise By Jo Kennett
THE VALLEY. The heights. There’s something about Bilambil, tucked away in the hills, that the locals would probably like to keep a secret. It’s a unique part of the world because it's so close to the Gold Coast, but it still has that country vibe, with rolling green hills, old farmhouses, cows grazing and some amazing views over Terranora Broadwater. The drive up the hill to get there

(before the landslide) put some people off, but for those who are born and bred in the area, it keeps the hordes away and they reckon that’s a good thing. To get to the heart of a place you only need to go as far as the general store and The Bilambil Post Office Store gives a pretty good clue about what sort of place Bilambil is. It’s old school and quirky with a petrol bowser out the front and everything you could ever need inside. Sunday afternoon in "The Valley" is all about enjoying the footy at the lovely home ground of the Bilambil Jets. One local told The Weekly Bilambil is, “a beautiful blend of rural living yet close to beaches, city, airport, et cetera.” “There is a strong community spirit through local sports clubs, including an equestrian club, and we have horses, cows, wallabies as neighbours.” When we looked up real estate in Bilambil, only five properties came up, but that’s in the village

and Bilambil Heights, which has many more homes, has 28 properties for sale. In 2016 there were 3,364 people living in Bilambil Heights and by 2021 there were 3,491, not a huge jump considering the amount of building going on everywhere else. In 2016 there were only 417 people living at Bilambil and by 2021 there were 441. The most expensive property for sale is a beautiful ten-acre (3.79 hectare) property with Bilambil Creek frontage. It has a four-bedroom main house and a separate three-bedroom home, five spring-fed dams, sheds and plenty of storage and is on the market for $2 to 2.2 million. At the other end of the market there are some lovely duplexes for around the $650,000 mark, but the cheapest at the moment is a three-bedroom 100 square metre villa on Scenic Drive for $595,000. It has a strata fee, but it’s cheap as chips at $27 a week. Last month Bilambil Heights had
