Councillor pay rise sparks debate TWEED SHIRE Councillors have carried a majority vote to increase their pays under a reclassification that
most councillors admitted was long overdue — but poorly timed Cr Reece Byrnes and Cr
Warren Polglase said the timing “could not be worse” to vote on councillor wages as ratepayers were slugged
with an additional special rate variation from July 1. Mayor Chris Cherry agrees the timing is poor, but high-
