Rescission motion on Men’s Shed THE FUTURE of Elrond Drive in Kingscliff is making headlines again this week after a motion led by Tweed Shire Mayor Chris Cherry to investigate the site for a proposed Men’s Shed passed at last week’s council meeting. However, progress could be shortlived, with a rescission motion now set
to be debated at a council meeting on Thursday, September 18. The rescission motion was raised by Councillor James Owen and is supported by Councillors Kimberly Hone and Rhiannon Brinsmead. It seeks to overturn Mayor Cherry’s motion, which would see council in-
vestigate the feasibility of using part of Elrond Drive for the community group. The move has sparked concern from members of the Kingscliff Men’s Shed, who say they simply want the community’s opinion before being ruled out. With the vote reportedly split three– three, the deciding voice may come
down to Councillor Reece Byrnes, who told The Weekly he is cautious but open to considering Elrond Drive if no better options are available. “My position fundamentally, and given that a proposed site at Cudgen may no longer be available, is that Elrond Drive has merit,” Cr Byrnes said. More inside.
