As part of our annual Regional Touring Program, Tura offers the opportunity for a very limited number of Tura Donors to travel with a section of the Reflection Tour to Northern Australia. Tura Travellers is a 12 day cultural adventure embedded into the daily life of this unique musical tour. Travellers experience all of the programmed events including performances in some of the most stunning environments in Australia, as well as school and community workshops in remote communities. Special performance events are scheduled for Travellers and there are the spontaneous moments that only the touring entourage get to experience. Wilderness and cultural side trips are also part of the Travellers itinerary. With over 10 years of experience in the regions Tura has established not only local knowledge but relationships with the right people giving Travellers access to land and culture not openly available. The Tura Travellers appeals to people who are interested in cultural development and want to see amazing music in stunning locations and experience the landscape and culture of regions rarely visited by most Australians.

The Reflection Tour September 2015 The Reflection Tour brings together Australia’s leading, internationally acclaimed Aboriginal artists William Barton and Stephen Pigram. Traveling through the breath taking landscape of the Kimberly, their stunning performances, in collaboration with the Echo Ensemble will transport travellers to new worlds and inspire communities. Full of celebration alongside powerful histories this meeting of cultural forces will bring together two of the worlds leading didgeridoo artists, songs of outback Australia and new commissioned music for the tour.

William Barton William Barton is one of Australia’s leading didgeridoo players and composers and is a powerful advocate for the wider perception of his cultural traditions. Born in Mount Isa, he was taught the instrument by his uncle, an elder of the Waanyi, Lardil and Kalkadunga tribes of western Queensland. He was appointed Musician-inresidence with the Queensland Orchestra in 2002/2003 and has since widely toured and performed with the orchestra. to promote the didgeridoo here and overseas. William tours nationally and internationally collaboratingwith composers, performing with orchestras, and recording.

Stephen Pigram Hailing from Broome in Australia’s far North West Kimberley region, Stephen Pigram is a slnger/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist musician playing acoustic guitar, harmonica, ukulele and more. He is one seventh of the Pigram Brothers band whose particular kind of ‘saltwater country’ music has attracted many fans both in Australia and beyond. Stephen also tours nationally and internationally as a featured artist with the acclaimed Black Arm Band ensemble. He was a member of legendary Broome bands Kuckles and Scrap Metal, and was Musical Director for the original production of the first Aboriginal musical and recent major Australian film, Bran Nue Dae. He also played a major role in the development and production of the recent Australian film Mad Bastards as both producer and composer.
In 2006 Stephen and brother Alan were inducted into the West Australian Music Industry Hall of Fame, the first indigenous artists to receive this honour.
The Echo Ensemble Leading Australian instrumentalists Stephen Magnusson (guitars), Erkki Veltheim (viola) and Steve Richter (percussion), and other special guests, bring together creative and technical virtuosity across a vast ocean of music genres and styles. Community Benefits and Outcomes Tura’s Regional Projects promote collaboration and direct involvement with our musicians by participants and audiences. Through the music outreach programs our touring artists engage directly with individuals and groups in the communities, encouraging direct interaction with the musicians and provides access, involvement and active participation with music. Western Australia’s regional communities are geographically disadvantaged when it comes to access to high calibre arts and cultural product. Tura’s Regional Program attempts to address that disadvantage.

About Tura Tura is a new music and sonic arts organisation based in Perth, Western Australia. Tura has been a contributor to the Western Australian and national cultural sector for 26 years.
As a service provider, Tura supports the careers of composers, sound artists and performers, as well as advising a broad range of organisations on sound art initiatives.

Operating as a not-for-profit, Tura has successfully supported thousands of Australian artists and introduced tens of thousands of people to the wonderul diversity of all forms of new music and sound art practices. Tura is a producer as well as resource centre and advocate for New Music.
Tura New Music has a proven track record of successfully managing regional projects. Management and staff are highly experienced in devising and delivering projects to isolated regional areas. Exceptional professionalism and duty of care is exercised at all stages of planning and delivery, with particular attention given to protocol standards of Indigenous communities.
