TupsleyVoice VETERAN CLIMBER SCALES EVEREST RAISING £22,000 TUPSLEY VETERAN ‘mountaineer’ is nearing the top of his personal Everest. In October last year, inspired by the spirit of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, 90-year-old Alan Blake of Hampton Park Road embarked on a fundraising project to boost the coffers of Parkinson’s UK, Burghill Parish Church and Rotary. By completing each 120-step circuit of his steep garden on the banks of the River Wye, Alan would chalk off the equivalent of various local and international hills and mountain ranges. To date, although hindered by periods of ill-health and painful rheumatoid arthritis, he has ‘climbed’ the equivalent of the Blorenge, the Sugar Loaf, the Black Mountains, the Brecon

Beacons, Cader Idris, Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, the Matterhorn, the Eiger and Mount Cook. Now, with more than 70,000 steps completed, he has reached the summit of Everest (29,032 feet) To date, he has raised more than £22,000 for the causes dear to his heart. Alan has been a member of the City of Hereford Rotary Club for more than 50 years and has been supporting and caring for his wife who has had Parkinson’s for over two decades. Alan is hoping to hit the £50,000-mark, so if you would like to support him in his bid to raise funds for these good causes, please visit the website below.
