TupsleyVoice THE CREATIVE COMMUNITY ROUNDABOUT A wonderful small team of 3 volunteers led by Monica Downes take care of the Ledbury Road roundabout under the auspices of Hereford In Bloom, notably Paul Hodges who is very supportive. It is sponsored by County Jet Clean ie Paul Andrews who named it Monnie’s Roundabout. In April 2017, Hereford in Bloom, Central Tupsley Community Group and Herefordshire Clean Up Community Group cleared the overgrown unsponsored roundabout. In July 2019 Monica Downes was joined by Rachel Smalley to prepare for the judging by Britain In Bloom. Wellies were placed on the roundabout to create interest as some plants were slow growing. This was followed by Chris Newton’s suggestion of creating

a Christmas ‘ tree’ and Wendy Price gave us the idea of involving the community. Hence the decorating of the roundabout began. We like to plant in an eco-sustainable way which reflects our suburban gardens and encourages wildlife and pollination. We use the same eco principles in decorating ie reusing and recycling. We decided to involve our community by firstly asking for recycling donations for us to do the crafting and then by asking for their creative contributions. Rainbow Nursery, Scout Corner were the first to help by creating brilliant Valentine hearts. Since then, St Pauls Childcare, Bright Sparks Nurseries and members of the public, all ages, have been awesome in their enthusiasm and

creative ideas. The response has been fantastic. It has been an incredible journey. Organic beginnings are often the best. Making people smile is simply a privilege. Thank you to everyone out there. We love it that the roundabout has found its way into the hearts of our community.
