DECADES OF MEMORIES FELLED IN JUST ONE DAY Countless thousands of children who attended St Pauls school throughout its 150 years of history (1968 – 2018) will remember the massive Oak Tree in the middle of their playground. Most them will have played or possibly even danced around it. Sadly early in 2019 it was identified that some parts of it were rotten. In this modern age, where if there is the slightest risk to Health and Safety the risk must be significantly reduced or eliminated, it was decided that the ancient Oak Tree must be removed. So 2nd June 2019 was a sad day for existing and past pupils (many quite elderly), when contractors arrived to cut down the tree in less than a morning’s work. The photographs show the work being carried out and the final stump with its rotten core. Going, Going, Gone. Pictures of the day the tree came down.
