TupsleyVoice Tupsley Ward City Councillor, Kath Hey was installed as the 638th Mayor of Hereford at a ceremony on May 13th. She was born in Hereford and grew up in Tupsley with her parents and three siblings. She attended Hampton Dene Primary, The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School and Hereford Sixth Form College. After University she went on to complete a post graduate degree in Primary Education and then taught at inner city schools in East London, where she met her husband James.

In 2001 she returned to her roots, bought a small house in Tupsley and taught at St.Paul’s Primary School. In 2010 with two other mums, she became one of the founder members of Wellies Action Group. The Group were able to secure over £100,000 in external funding to refurbish the play area at Quarry Park in Wellington Place. In 2013, she joined the newly formed Central Tupsley Community Group (CTCG) working with County Councillor Jim Kenyon as part of the team organising community events in Quarry Park. She then became a City Councillor in 2015 and since then, has continued to support her community in Tupsley Ward. Kath was re-elected in May and now proudly takes on the prestigious role of Mayor of Hereford. With her Mayoral theme of ‘Inspiring Young Lives’, Cllr. Hey has chosen as the Mayoral Charities for the year the CLD Trust (counselling and support services for young people) and the Phoenix Bereavement Support Service (who work with children and young people when someone close to them dies).
