Established in 1926, the creation of America’s historic highway is closely tied to Tulsa’s own Cyrus Avery, often called the “Father of Route 66,” who championed the road's route through Oklahoma, bringing economic growth and cultural exchange to the region.

Today, Tulsa’s 28-mile stretch of the Mother Road is not only a path to the past, but a road to the future. The Capital of Route 66® is home to a community of enthusiastic locals building new roadside attractions, neon signs and quirky shops that capture the essence of the highway’s heyday.

DID YOU KNOW?

In April 2019, the Tulsa Route 66 Commission launched a Neon Sign Grant Program that offers a 50% matching grant for restoring vintage neon signs or creating new ones along both historic alignments of Route 66.
