GREENWOOD RISING Greenwood Rising is a history center sharing the story of Black Wall Street before, during and after the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, when white mobs destroyed 35 blocks of the city’s prominent Black community of Greenwood. Designed by Local Projects, the team behind the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, the immersive Greenwood Rising experience begins with a video introduction. Then, visitors “cross the tracks” to learn about the history of the district. In one section, visitors take a seat in a period barbershop with holographic barbers representing early Greenwood. After going through the “Arc of Oppression” section, visitors have the opportunity to make a personal commitment toward racial reconciliation that is added to a wall of positive messages upon exiting the museum. 23 N. Greenwood Ave. • 539-867-3173 greenwoodrising.org LIVING ARTS Tulsa is home to a plethora of arts events, and Living Arts is frequently behind them. Part venue, part facilitator of arts programming, Living Arts describes itself as “a platform for evolving ideas and aesthetics, interdisciplinarity and community empowerment through exhibitions, workshops, performances, films, lectures and education.” The New Genre Arts Festival, one of Living Arts’ biggest and most well-known events, features some
of the most stimulating and thought-provoking visual and performing arts in the nation, according to festival organizers. Living Arts also presents the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Arts Festival each November. The popularity of this festival is due in large part to Tulsa’s active and considerable Hispanic and Latino communities. Expect to find traditional and contemporary dancers, as well as mariachi and salsa bands. Many ofrendas erected by artists and groups honor their loved ones. 307 E. THE OUTSIDERS HOUSE MUSEUM In the early ’80s, Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola came to Tulsa to catapult S.E. Hinton’s memorable characters off the pages of “The Outsiders” and onto the big screen. Rather than use a Hollywood back lot, the crew transformed an ordinary Tulsa neighborhood into a fully functioning film production. DOWNTOWN DISTRICTS
BOK Center
Tulsa Artist Fellowship Flagship
ARENA DISTRICT
Attracting over 1.8 million visitors per year, the Arena District is dominated by the eventvenue juggernauts of the BOK Center and Arvest Convention Center, where music legends, regional sports competitions, annual festivals and conventions have put Tulsa on the map. However, there are plenty of thriving businesses just a short walk away such as Kai Vietnamese Cuisine, a must-eat for fans of authentic pho, and the mysterious Cellar Dweller, an underground dive bar. The district is also home to the architecturally stunning Central Library, a multi-story facility complete with a Maker Space with a 3D printing station and recording studio, a Digital Literacy Lab that hosts two flight simulators, and even a children’s area with play stations and book bins for easy access, among other features and amenities.
BLUE DOME DISTRICT
Once a stop along Route 66, the historic Blue Dome District remains the nightlife hotspot with its broad assortment of restaurants, bars and entertainment options. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 and has only grown since then with additions like Hotel Indigo, with its Prospect Local Bar and Kitchen and Roof Sixty-Six Rooftop Bar, as well as the sprawling Santa Fe Square development packing emerging restaurants like Forno Santo. When walking down South Elgin Avenue, it’s impossible to miss McNellie’s patio, frequently packed with patrons sipping on one of over 300 beer options. Keep going east and you will find the Max Retropub, Arnie’s Bar, and Dust Bowl Lanes and Lounge, giving you plenty of options to round out a night in downtown Tulsa. 28 CITY GUIDE 2026

ARTS DISTRICT
Guthrie Green anchors this creative engine of downtown, where a thriving, multidisciplinary community of artists are fueled by a diverse selection of restaurants, bars and coffeehouses. Whether reminiscing at the Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie Centers or catching the latest up-and-coming artists at Cain’s Ballroom, the Tulsa Arts District is alive and bustling with music, old and new. In true community spirit, Tulsans gather in the district every month for First Friday Art Crawl to peruse independent vendors and galleries. Keep an eye out for special events like open houses from the esteemed Tulsa Artist Fellowship Flagship, where studios come to life with exhibitions, film screenings, performances, discussions and other programs.
CATHEDRAL DISTRICT
The Cathedral District is packed with beautiful, historic architecture that adorns Tulsa’s lower skyline. Six churches draw faith communities into the city, while the fresh entertainment and dining options keep them coming back. For 50 years, The Chalkboard Kitchen + Bar has served patrons for everything from a casual lunch to a romantic first date. If you need a spark of energy, check out Foolish Things Coffee Co. for a tasty coffee or espresso beverage, plus limited breakfast and lunch options. Nearby, Wildflower Cafe has opened as the first restaurant in the growing MODE Tulsa development. Add in the Tulsa Community College Metro Sampus, and this southern downtown district encompasses a well-rounded hub of business, learning and local culture.

Downtown Tulsa contains a diverse assortment of dining, music, entertainment and shopping options, from stunning rooftop bars to classic restaurants and venues. Within the downtown core are eight distinct districts — each with their own sights, flavor and flair — and several additional districts anchored just outside of it.

EAST VILLAGE
Right in the heart of downtown, business, living and entertainment intersect amidst a robust collection of Art Deco buildings and architecture landmarks such as the Philcade, the Pythian and the Mayo Hotel — with its iconic rooftop lounge and bar that has one of the best views in Tulsa. Residential apartments flank the BOK Tower and are dotted among a diverse collection of restaurants and shops. Take in the charming views of the district from a patio spot at The Vault or dine on sustainably sourced Mexican favorites at its sister restaurant Elote Café and Catering, which leads the Deco District in year-round community events, festivals and more.
With shopping, dining, entertainment and plenty of parking, the East Village District truly has it all. Often labeled the “sunny side of downtown,” it borders the Blue Dome, Greenwood and Pearl Districts. One muststop is The Bend, where you can grab everything from creative gifts to pantry staples alongside a full-scope drinks menu. Studio 308 draws performers from across Tulsa into its multipurpose space; meanwhile, NEFF Brewing is synthesizing new, unique ales as the only dedicated gluten-free brewery and restaurant in Oklahoma. Full from a delicious dinner? Burn off some steam at GRAVITY BEAR Bouldering Gym.
Updog Yoga
John Hope Frankin Reconciliation Park
Located south of downtown between 15th Street and 21st Street, SoBo is named for South Boston Avenue, which marks the district’s center and is home to a variety of delicious international flavors. One of its shining landmarks is the Brut Hotel, which hosts special programming including yoga classes, poolside experiences and a vinyl record shop. At the hotel’s summit rests Soma, an exquisite rooftop dining and music venue — just one of several places to catch live acts within the SoBo District. Nearby, Mercury Lounge has received national acclaim for its bustling atmosphere and traditions like Bluegrass Brunch. While you’re in this part of town, don’t miss your chance to stop by Council Oak Park, considered the birthplace of Tulsa (read more on p. 5.)
Pearl Beach Brew Pub
GUNBOAT DISTRICT
Featuring two parks (one of which is an off-leash dog park) located at each end of its boat-like shape, the Gunboat District fits a unique niche in the Downtown Tulsa landscape by blending thriving businesses with historic neighborhoods. June’s Donuts and Cafe is a great spot to indulge on sweet treats, but if you want to balance things out, Updog Yoga’s indoor-outdoor studio has you covered no matter the experience level. Meanwhile, Palomino Cigar Lounge has become a bustling evening spot for cigar connoisseurs. Situated along Route 66, Gunboat also offers easy access to the rest of downtown, as well as the surrounding suburban districts.
HISTORIC GREENWOOD
Earning the nickname “Black Wall Street” in the early 20th century due to the neighborhood’s unprecedented prosperity during a time when the nation failed to recognize Black people as equals, Tulsa’s Historic Greenwood District today is one of the most prominent destinations for Black history and culture in the U.S. Stretching from M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard past North Greenwood Avenue, the community is home to popular Black-owned business including Sweet Lisa’s Café and Silhouette Sneakers and Art. To learn more about the history of Greenwood, visit the award-winning Greenwood Rising Black Wall Street History Center or John Hope Frankin Reconciliation Park. Don’t miss the iconic Black Wall Street mural created by artist Donald “SCRIBE” Ross at 322 N. Greenwood Ave.
PEARL DISTRICT
Just outside of Downtown Tulsa, the Pearl District is a historic slice of the city’s identity. Among the area’s numerous craft breweries is the Pearl Beach Brew Pub, with sand volleyball courts and a fun, dog-friendly atmosphere. Bored on a Saturday? Grab some soft serve (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available) at Nonthing’s Left Brewing, or head to Positive Space Tulsa to see what local art is on display. Finish off your excursion with a stroll through the nearby Veterans Park. This urban neighborhood has a calmer vibe than the hustle and bustle of downtown, but there is still no shortage of food and fun — all complete with picturesque views of the Tulsa skyline. Nestled along the river, the Oklahoma Aquarium has been teaching visitors about the aquatic world since 2003. Visitors can experience Sea Turtle Island or the Polynesian Reef, walk through the shark tunnel — which houses the world’s largest collection of bull sharks — or visit far-off locales like the Amazon. Each July, the Oklahoma Aquarium hosts a month-long celebration for all things sharks known as Sharklahoma. Shoppers can find plenty of small businesses for clothes, cooking and kitchen supplies, home decor and more. Discover your next favorite song at locally owned Screaming Earth Records, which offers new and used vinyls alongside other vintage music merch. Diners descend on the popular MAD Eats (try the shakes) and downtown staple Giant Subs and Deli is a great place to snag a sandwich on the go, while SMOKE. Woodfire Grill has options for more up-scale dining. Beyond the Redbud District, Owasso has several shopping destinations all within a short drive. Try Smith Farm Market Place for your big box and chain storefronts or head over to East 86th Street North for a smattering of locally owned retailers and food purveyors like Mozilla’s Kitchen and Golden Biscuit. SAND SPRINGS Founded in 1908, this suburb to the west is home to industry, growing residential communities, local retailers and an award-winning golf course. Managed by Sand Springs Parks, the Keystone Ancient Forest near Lake Keystone is a preserve encompassing 1,380 acres of cross timbers forest, with some trees ranging up to 500 years in age. A visitor center sits at the head of several hiking trails of varying lengths and abilities. Visit the park’s Facebook page for a collection of special events, such as pet-friendly weekends. Nearby you can find local restaurants like Big Dipper Creamery, Boulder Coffee, Little Venice and more. Between bites, explore fashion and vintage finds at shops like YellowHouse Boutique and The Yesterday Shop, or pick up a bouquet at Coble’s Creations. SAPULPA Southwest of Tulsa on Route 66, Sapulpa packs powerful history into a charming red-brick downtown corridor complete with antique shops, restaurants, boutiques and even an e-sports lounge. Newcomer Sons of Amalfi has quickly become a popular spot for scratch-made Italian fare with family at the forefront; but be sure to make a reservation at this 10-table eatery in advance. For dessert, head to Little Taiyaki to try their namesake treat — which combines creamy, smooth soft serve with a rainbow of toppings, all swirled into a soft, fish-shaped waffle cone. Let the kiddos run off some steam at the larger-thanlife Heritage Park, which features massive wooden play structures inspired by the region’s boomtown roots. During the holidays, Sapulpa Main Street lights up with the Route 66 Christmas Chute, a festive annual installation that boasts 60,000 lights and 21,000 square-feet of Christmas decor.
