THIS LIVING ARCHIVE, INFORMED BY THE WISDOM OF THE PAST, STORES THE KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE, SCIENCE, AND CULTURE. IN THE FACE OF DISASTERS, IT BECOMES A BEACON OF HOPE, OFFERING NOT ONLY SHELTER AND SUSTENANCE BUT THE MEANS TO REBUILD OUR HABITAT AND SUPPORT THE LIFE OF ALL SPECIES.

THE HUB FOR LEARNING WITHIN THIS BUILDING WILL BE A CENTRAL CATALYST FOR INTELLECTUAL GROWTH, COLLABORATION, AND EMPOWERMENT. IT WILL BE A PLACE WHERE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES, AND WHERE EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND, CAN ACCESS EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES, ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE, AND PARTICIPATE IN TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES.

OUR SITE SITS AT THE BORDER OF GREATER MANCHESTER IN THE NORTHWEST OF ENGLAND. IT'S FLANKED BY TWO RING ROADS, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY BRING SIGNIFICANT NOISE POLLUTION TO OUR AREA, AND ON THE WESTERN EDGE FLOWS THE RIVER IRWELL..

CITY’S RIVER VALLEYS AND CANALS, ONCE THE POWERHOUSES OF MANCHESTER’S INDUSTRY, ARE CHANGING TO BECOME NETWORKS FOR WILDLIFE TO CONNECT, MOVE AND THRIVE.

THE CONCEPT OF THE RING

A RING CAN BE SEEN AS A SYMBOL OF ETERNITY, REPRESENTING AN UNBROKEN AND CONTINUOUS CYCLE. THIS COULD BE APPLIED TO CONCEPTS LIKE TIME, WHERE THERE IS NO CLEAR BEGINNING OR END. IN SOME CONTEXTS, A RING MAY SYMBOLIZE UNITY AND WHOLENESS. IT REPRESENTS THE IDEA THAT ALL PARTS ARE CONNECTED TO FORM A COMPLETE AND CONTINUOUS WHOLE, EMPHASIZING INTERCONNECTEDNESS.

IN OUR WATER FILTRATION WORKSHOP, YOU'LL DIVE INTO THE SCIENCE BEHIND PURIFYING WATER, LEARNING ABOUT VARIOUS FILTRATION METHODS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN BOTH DOMESTIC AND INDUSTRIAL SETTINGS.

IN THE PLANT REGENERATION WORKSHOP, DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF NURTURING AND PROPAGATING PLANTS TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO YOUR GARDEN OR INDOOR SPACE..

LASTLY, OUR ANIMAL KEEPING WORKSHOP OFFERS INSIGHTS INTO RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY.

THE INITIATIVE TO REVIVE OUR RIVERS IS A COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY, BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION, AND THE WELL-BEING OF PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS. THROUGH A HOLISTIC APPROACH ENCOMPASSING ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION, POLLUTION PREVENTION, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES, WE AIM TO REJUVENATE OUR RIVERS AND SECURE A FLOURISHING AND RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL. TOGETHER, WE CAN EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY TOWARD HEALTHIER, THRIVING RIVER ECOSYSTEMS.

CANADA WATER MASTERPLAN

THE VISION IS TO RE-IMAGINE THE DOCK AT CANADA WATER AS A NEW PUBLIC SPACE FOR LONDON. THE AIM IS TO CREATE A NEW 'CITY PARK' WHERE PEOPLE AND NATURE ARE BETTER CONNECTED, TO INSPIRE INTEREST IN ECOLOGY AND NATURAL HISTORY AND CELEBRATE CANADA WATER AT THE HEART OF AN EMERGING TOWN CENTRE DESTINATION. THE DOCK IS STRONGLY RELATED TO THE IDENTITY OF CANADA WATER AND IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING TOGETHER THE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE OF THE AREA AS WELL AS A UNIQUE ECOLOGICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE CITY.

FIRE SAFETY STRATEGY

ADEQUATE PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED TO GUARANTEE USER SAFETY IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE. GUIDANCE FROM APPROVED DOCUMENTS B, K, AND M HAS BEEN DILIGENTLY FOLLOWED TO INFORM THE DESIGN OF BOTH VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL FIRE ESCAPE ROUTES, AS WELL AS THE OVERALL ARCHITECTURAL LAYOUT OF THE BUILDING, ENSURING THE SAFETY OF ITS OCCUPANTS.

SMOKE DETECTORS

SMOKE DETECTORS OUGHT TO BE STRATEGICALLY PLACED THROUGHOUT THE PREMISES, INCLUDING ON THE CEILINGS OF EVERY INTERNAL ROOM. IT'S RECOMMENDED THAT THEY BE POSITIONED WITHIN 10 METERS OF EACH OTHER AND NO MORE THAN 5 METERS AWAY FROM ANY WALL.

IN AREAS PRONE TO SMOKE OR STEAM, WHERE SMOKE DETECTORS MIGHT NOT FUNCTION OPTIMALLY, HEAT DETECTORS SHOULD BE INSTALLED. THESE LOCATIONS TYPICALLY INCLUDE BATHROOMS, KITCHENS, AND SIMILAR AREAS.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING

STRATEGIC EMERGENCY LIGHTING WILL BE INSTALLED THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY, GUIDING INDIVIDUALS SAFELY TO THE NEAREST FIRE EXTINGUISHER OR FIRE DOOR. ADDITIONALLY, LIGHTING WILL BE PLACED IN STAIRWELLS AND THE BUILDING'S CORE TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT ILLUMINATION FOR EVACUATION PURPOSES.

FIRE ALARM AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER

FIRE ALARM CALL POINTS ARE COMMONLY POSITIONED NEAR EACH EXIT POINT ON THE WALL, ADJACENT TO A FIRE DOOR AND ALONGSIDE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THIS PLACEMENT ENSURES THAT INDIVIDUALS HAVE EASY ACCESS TO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS WHILE EVACUATING, THEREBY ENHANCING THE SAFETY OF THE ESCAPE PROCESS.

AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS

SPRINKLER SYSTEMS WILL BE STRATEGICALLY INSTALLED THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING TO SWIFTLY SUPPRESS FLAMES AND FACILITATE SAFE EVACUATION. THE SPACING BETWEEN SPRINKLERS SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN TEN METERS, AND THEY SHOULD BE POSITIONED AT LEAST THREE TIMES THE LENGTH OF ANY OBSTRUCTION AWAY FROM BEAMS.
