CHAMBER W
Welcome
elcome to Broussard, Louisiana, where we are happy to share our history and hospitality with you all. Not only is Broussard a bustling business hub situated on the major north/south Highway 90 (Interstate 49), but it is also home to over 11,000 residents. Our rich history dates back to 1884 when Valsin Broussard, a prominent local merchant and descendant of exiled Acadians, settled the area. The construction of a railroad line, as well as the development of petroleum mining activity off the Louisiana gulf coast, spurred much growth in our area. Fast forward to 2018, and Broussard continues to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the region, drawing new businesses, tourists and families at an amazing rate. The Broussard Chamber of Commerce is an active organization whose underlying mission is to “assist in the development and growth of business” in our area. We are, however, so much more than just a business resource. Of course we offer a wide variety of networking opportunities for local professionals, but we are also proud to serve the larger community by supporting various qualityof-life initiatives. Outside of our Chamber programming, which includes breakfast & lunch events and A Taste of Broussard, in 2018 the Chamber will host familyfriendly events like the Broussard
Independence Day Festival, Noel en Broussard and the Broussard Christmas Parade. I should also mention our newest attraction, the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park. This state-of-the-art recreational facility opened in 2017, and has already begun welcoming local and visiting sports teams, as well as anyone looking to cool off at the splash pad. St. Julien Park is open to the public year-round, and will be home to St. Julien Jams, a free concert series that will take place during the spring and fall seasons. As we look to the future, the Broussard Chamber of Commerce is eager to bring to fruition the Vision 2040 Plan recently outlined by a local focus group and adopted by our city government. This plan will serve as our guide as we work to create a better-connected city that offers opportunities for business development, a revitalized downtown area and dedicated spaces for entertainment. We exist to support local businesses, as well as to provide high-quality, family-oriented activities that will draw our community together. Broussard is a SMALL TOWN, but we mean BIG BUSINESS! Sincerely,

ith a mission to “assist in the development and growth of businesses,” the Broussard Chamber of Commerce leads by example. Better yet, that mission is getting noticed. The Broussard Chamber was named the 2017 Small Chamber of the Year by the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce Executives for its commitment and progress in growing the community. Putting the community and its members first, the Chamber strategically plans events and programs that help businesses gain exposure and grow. With more than 200 members representing manufacturers, educators, medical providers, real estate agents and many other sectors, the chamber is on the pulse of progress. Members have the opportunity to build contacts and strengthen their brand by attending monthly luncheons with special keynote speakers, participate in ribbon-cutting ceremonies and attend quarterly afterhours events, which are sponsored by various Chamber members. Likewise, the Chamber works closely with community partners to sustain and recruit businesses to the area. One of the most alluring amenities the city boasts is its proximity. Broussard is situated ideally along Highway 90, which is perfect for companies doing business in and around the area. Due to the location of this major thoroughfare, residential developments are bringing new subdivisions to
homeowners and a wealth of commercial spaces for companies looking to relocate and/or expand in Broussard. One of the Chamber’s most vital partners is the Broussard Economic Development Corporation. The organization’s mission is “to serve the community of Broussard and its elected governing entity by identifying opportunities for long-term economic growth, financial sustainability and a meaningful quality of life.” Moreover, the corporation embodies Broussard’s small town charm while embracing development opportunities that will positively impact the community as a whole. The Broussard I-49 Connector plays an important role in the city. The connector, once complete, will link numerous small, medium and large businesses together, improve traffic flow and enhance access to and from Broussard. While safety and convenience are priorities for the development of the connector, the roadway will also be an easy commute to other transportation hubs like the Lafayette Regional Airport, with services to United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, and the Port of Iberia. Invest in the chamber and city, because Broussard is “Small Town, Big Business.”

ooking for a great date-night spot? What about a place to spend a day with the family? There is no need to venture too far; Broussard has wealth of attractions that are perfect places to spend some down time. Built in 1911, the Victorian Plantation is listed on the National Historic Register and is a beautiful site to behold. The home was constructed by Paul Billeaud, who owned the largest sugar cane mill in the state, during that time period. The home was renovated in 2014, becoming a destination to exchange nuptials or host other special occasions. Whether small or large, the site can accommodate anywhere from 25 to 800 guests. The grounds of the Victorian are just as breathtaking as the house. The Octavia Formal Gardens is the perfect backdrop for photos, surrounded by seasonal flowers, boxwood hedges, benches and a flowing Frenchinspired fountain. Likewise, the gazebo and lawn on the property are home to a beautiful orchard and a gorgeous oak tree. This is a popular spot for weddings and special events, with a well-kept lawn and rose garden. The park at the Victorian boasts a concrete slab perfect for
accommodating all types of weather conditions. It is also outfitted with electrical outlets and water connections. Lastly, the French Courtyard is a postcard straight out of the Big Easy. Decorated with two large Victorian urns, cast iron water fountains, hedges and flowers, the courtyard is well lit and offers amenities that allow every occasion to go off without a hitch. For additional information on rentals and packages, visit their website at www.thevictorianplantation.com. St. Julien Park is THE place to go to unwind in Broussard. From an active sports complex with a host of youth and adult sports, the park boasts an impressive lineup of events throughout the year. Families can attend the Movies in the Field series for free every Friday night in April. The flicks are outdoors on the soccer fields with children’s activities taking place before the movies. Concessions are available for purchase. Free to the public and fun for the whole family, the park’s St. Julien Jams is an evening of entertainment! Presented by the Broussard Chamber of Commerce, attendees enjoy live music, refreshments and quality time on the town. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for ultimate relaxation.

The park also hosts National Night Out. The community event brings locals and law enforcement together for a good time. Guests will enjoy refreshments, airbrush tattoos, face painting, fun-jumps, a bicycle giveaway, a meet and greet with police officers and McGruff the Crime Dog and Safety Pup. Another popular event at the park takes place around Halloween. Local businesses set up holiday-themed trunks and hand out candy to little ghosts and goblins at no charge. On top of candy, families can also partake in fun-jumps, face painting, music and games. There is also a photo booth, costume contest and raffles throughout the evening. One of the most popular spots in Broussard is also located inside St. Julien Park. The park’s splash pad is great for cooling off during the warmer months and unwinding. There are plans in the works to expand the splash pad and add more amenities. For a full list of events, check out the park’s calendar at www. broussardsportscomplex.com/ calendar. With a nod to the area’s sweet past, pay a visit to Sugar Mill Park’s iconic structures. Be sure to take a picture in front of the famous sugar gears for a true Broussard experience. Animal lovers will fall in love with the creatures at Zoosiana, the Zoo of Acadiana. The zoo is home to more than 750 animals. Spanning nearly 50 acres, the zoo’s easy-to-follow paths connect one adventure to the next. For an out-of-this-world experience, hop on the safari train ride. Here, enthusiasts will see
zebras, deer, exotic cats and camels. Other popular stops are the giraffe feeding station, which is open daily, and the parakeet exhibit where you can feed the birds. Check out the petting zoo for a hands-on experience with some of the site’s friendliest residents. As guests enter the barnyard, they are greeted by goats, llamas, chickens, a cow, a donkey, a pig and a horse. Step into the jungle to see amphibians, fish, snakes, turtles and lizards. The Jungle Room is one of the zoo’s most popular exhibits. With weekday and weekend performances, the ZooLive Animal Show is educational and entertaining. Learn more about conservation, wildlife and animals from this stage show. On top of that, the zoo hosts events throughout the year, including its No. 1 springtime event, the EggstravaganZoo. This fundraising event for the zoo is fun for the whole family, with an egg hunt, small-prize games, candy stations, face painting, sand art and live entertainment. The zoo is also a great place for a birthday party or other special event. For more information, visit www.zoosiana.com. Jump around and have a good time at Elevation Station Trampoline Park. This 37,000-square-foot venue boasts trampoline open jump, basketball, extreme dodgeball, an air bag, arcade games and kiddie zones. Elevation Station also houses party rooms, which are great for birthdays and other special occasions. No matter the interest, there is always something to explore in Broussard.

atering to the athletic pursuits of children and adults alike, the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park is where the community comes to play. The state-of-the-art complex boasts baseball, softball and soccer fields, as well as tennis and basketball courts. Looking to just get in some training? The complex has practice fields and batting cages too. Sports offered at the complex include T-ball, youth flag football and softball, as well as adult softball, baseball and soccer. “The Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park has been a positive influence for Broussard in several ways,” said Ray Bourque, Broussard city councilman and chairman of the board for the Broussard Chamber of Commerce. “First, it has added a several quality-of-life options for our residents: walking trails, youth sports, city events, tennis, basketball and a children’s splash pad are all available to our residents within our park. Secondly our city has seen the beginning of how traveling sports tourism can positively impact our local businesses. Bringing a new customer base into Broussard to help support our local businesses is an important part of growing our local economy.” Outside of team sports spaces, the complex also houses an

amphitheater, playgrounds, a stocked fishing pond, a walking and fitness trail, a splash pad and concessions served up by Bon Temps Concessions. Tournaments are also a major draw to the complex, including PONY (Protecting Our Nation’s Youth) games, which is a great way to enjoy America’s pastime. Spanning nearly 125 acres, the complex brings the community together for recreation, unwinding and entertainment. Aside from recreational opportunities, the complex shines the spotlight on Broussard, helping to grow quality athletic programs, give local youth an outlet, raise awareness for a healthier way of life and enrich the lives of all. “As Broussard nears the one-year anniversary of the park’s opening, the possibilities of what lies ahead are exciting. Larger tournaments, added amenities to the park and new and more frequent events are all strong possibilities,” Bourque said. “As we begin to plan for 2019, our city government will focus on our two core missions, quality of life for our residents and improving our economy and the decision to invest in the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park allows us to do both.”

She moved to Broussard about four years ago, became a real estate agent and joined the Broussard Chamber of Commerce. “You get more for your money here. The location is great, and Broussard is close to everything,” D’Ambrosio said. “There is a lot to choose from and in every price range.” Known for its hospitality, living in Broussard is more than just an investment. It comes with a sense of community and belonging. “I love living here. The people are great,” D’Ambrosio said. “There really is something about the people here. Broussard began the retail boom in Broussard. This growth spurred the construction of Celebrity Theatres bringing Broussard its first multiscreen theater on land owned by Billeaud Companies. With this development, the Broussard Retail Corridor along Highway 90 exploded, bringing in national and regional brand stores, such as, Smoothie King, Verizon, Raising Cane’s and Rotolo’s. Moreover, Billeaud Companies works with residential developers and homebuilders to create exceptional subdivisions in South Louisiana. Recent projects include Cypress Meadows and Sabal Palms Subdivisions, both located in Broussard. These subdivisions boasts walking paths, abundant amenities, gorgeous fountains and green space. Lastly, Billeaud Companies offers build-to-suit lease options. Through this route, those interested are offered affordable, tailored sites throughout the Acadiana region, an inventory of commercial properties from which to choose, access to Billeaud experts and ongoing maintenance and control of site operations throughout the life of the lease. Billeaud Companies has been family owned and operated since 1872 and began as a sugar cane and agriculture business. While many things have changed over the last century, one thing has not: Billeaud Companies remains an instrumental part of spurring growth and shaping business communities in Broussard and South Louisiana. The company will continue to stay committed to responsible community building, leaving a lasting impact in the areas individuals live, work and play. Whether looking for a property to start a life or a business, Broussard offers the ideal address.

elping shape the future of Broussard today, local schools prepare the next generation of employees to master the skills they will need later on in their lives. Along the way, Lafayette Parish School System makes learning fun so that students remain curious and engaged. Serving students in Broussard, Katharine Drexel Elementary School, Broussard Middle School, Southside High School, Comeaux High School and St. Cecilia Catholic School see to the educational needs of the community. Educators are dedicated to helping students thrive both in and outside of the classroom. Through the district’s early childhood department, children can participate in pre-K classes that help them prepare for their first day of kindergarten. The pre-K program follows the Louisiana Department of Education Birth to 5 Early Learning Development Standards. Likewise, every pre-K site, which includes Katharine Drexel Elementary, has an early childhood resource coordinator who helps pupils, parents and educators be fully prepared for school. While mastering basic concepts are vital to a student’s education, getting a jump-start on career skills is equally important. Through career and technical education courses, students develop high-level academic skills and can even obtain specific industry certifications in various occupational sectors. These courses benefit scholars who have plans to attend college or pursue the workforce right after high school graduation. These courses include a vast range of fields, including health care, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), hospitality and tourism, business and legal. The arts play a complementary part of students’ education. With opportunities to participate in music, dance, theater and visual art, scholars develop critical thinking skills, hone creative self expression and establish an appreciation for the arts for life. On top of that, students also have the chance to partake in physical education and athletics. Physical education classes allow students to take responsibility of their health and learn how to maintain physical fitness throughout their lives. Students learn good sportsmanship and teamwork by participating in athletics, which include wrestling, golf, baseball, bowling, volleyball, soccer and softball. Aside from athletics, there are numerous ways to get involved through clubs and organizations. These include yearbook, French Club, 4-H, Beta Club, FFA, homecoming committee, literacy rally, Key Club, creative camera, National Honor Society, robotics, speech club, student government and swim team. Estimated to open fall 2019, the new Billeaud Elementary School will span two stories and more than 90,000 square feet. The school will also feature a media center,

cafetorium and administrative wing. For families looking to provide their child with a faith-based, rigorous curriculum, St. Cecilia Catholic School is also an option in Broussard. Established by the Sisters of Divine Providence in the early 1900s, the school educates students in pre-K through eighth grades. Likewise, students learn from the best. St. Cecilia’s teachers are certified in their academic area, and many faculty members possess or are working toward a master’s degree. Educators also attend workshops and seminars so they stay atop of trends and the most advanced ways of teaching and learning. Instruction meets the Louisiana Department of Education’s Grade Level Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards. Students are immersed in engaging reading and math programs that prepare them for high school and beyond. On top of that, students are learning from 21st century tools that will prepare them for the workplace and other educational pursuits. All classrooms are outfitted with student computers and iPads, as well as interactive Smart Boards. Students also have access to on-site computer labs. Complementing academics, St. Cecilia’s extracurricular activities provide a well-rounded education to pupils. They can participate in athletics, youth ministry, art, 4-H, speech and drama, quiz bowl and Junior Beta.
