NHBC, the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider, has released the latest edition of its technical Standards.

The NHBC Standards define the technical requirements and performance standards for the design and construction of new homes registered with NHBC. They provide guidance on the requirements to achieve NHBC warranty and insurance.

Updated annually, NHBC’s Standards are rigorously reviewed to drive incremental improvement and raise build quality. They support builders and developers to deliver high-quality new homes, with the next edition delivering updates in multiple areas.

Editorial improvements to the numbering of tables and drawings and the cross-referencing between chapters have been made for ease-of-reference, and some building control guidance has been removed to clarify their purpose as warranty guidance.

Richard Smith, Head of Standards, Research & Technical Competency at NHBC commented, “NHBC is committed to driving quality in house building and the continuous improvement of the NHBC Standards is a key part of this. The comprehensive annual review process ensures they remain relevant and help builders and developers to deliver highquality new homes. The NHBC Standards are a cornerstone in our mission to raise standards in house building.”

NHBC works continuously to review technical content, update the Standards and make sure they keep pace with the needs of the industry, the regulatory environment and, wherever possible, anticipate changing consumer expectations. It consults with stakeholders from across the industry to ensure the Standards are always relevant and provide the required support for builders and developers to keep raising the level of quality in house building.

This latest edition of the Standards applies to every new home registered with NHBC where the foundations are begun on or after 1 January 2026.

Registered builders can log in to watch NHBC Standards 2026 video guides. Created by the NHBC Standards, Innovation and Research team, these guides give a more detailed breakdown of the changes and guidance on how to achieve the performance standards.

Freefoam

Freefoam announces new box end fascia board

Freefoam Building Products has announced that for 2026, the popular Woodgrain FMS Magnum Square Leg Fascia (405mm) is now available in a shorter length of 1.25 metres.

This new addition to the comprehensive roofline range has been introduced following customer feedback to make installations easier, reduce waste, and lower costs for customers. The new 1.25 metre box end board is available in Woodgrain Black Ash and Woodgrain Anthracite Grey.

This new product has been designed with installers in mind. The shorter lengths are particularly suitable for the creation of the ‘box end’ of a roofline installation – where the fascia meets the bargeboard at the corner of a roof. Freefoam Building Products are committed to developing and improving product ranges to meet market needs.

Pendock

Pendock in transit at Belfast Grand Central.

Stainless steel and aluminium column casings from Pendock’s Radius range have been installed at Belfast Grand Central Station to conceal interior structural steelwork within the 7,500 square metre transport hub.

Ranging in height from 3.4 up to 12.3 metres, most of the circular column casings are 900mm diameter, with a further four at 450mm and one of 650mm, yet they all use a ‘hybrid’ construction that combines stainless steel and aluminium.

On every Pendock Radius casing, the lower 2.1 metres, along with the 300mm high adjustable skirting collars, are manufactured from 2mm thick satin finish stainless steel, while the upper sections are formed from 2mm aluminium and finished with a grey RAL9007 polyester powder coating to integrate with the interior design scheme.

EJOT

Expanded EJOT DDS-Z range simplifies installation

New fastener lengths in EJOT’s DDS-Z range, exclusively available in the UK, are enabling much deeper levels of soffit insulation to be installed easily and efficiently thanks to the screw’s ability to anchor effectively into concrete with an embedment of just 25mm. Existing DDS-Z fasteners in lengths including 275, 300, 325 and 350mm are already proving popular with installers. The latest expansion of the EJOT DDS-Z range will enable similarly streamlined installation of further increased soffit depths to achieve even higher performance, with a fastener length of 400mm being launched by the end of the first quarter of 2026. This will accommodate an insulation thickness of 375mm. Despite the extended fastener lengths, however, all versions still only require a 25mm embedment into the concrete. The DDS-Z brings together a premium quality concrete screw with the EJOT DD-T washer. It has a C1-C3 corrosion resistance classification too.

SPECIFICATION

Marley

Marley simplifying roofing specification with digital platform

• Marley

• F.Ball

• Yeoman Rainguard

Read the full story on the blog: www.specification productupdate.com

Marley has launched a new Technical Tools platform, providing specifiers with a faster, clearer, and more transparent route to roofing specification.

The new online platform brings together a suite of digital specification tools within a single interface, allowing users to generate fully compliant roofing specifications without the need to navigate multiple systems or repeatedly input project data. By creating an account, specifiers can unlock additional flexibility, including multi-plot functionality and an archive that stores past and current projects for complete traceability. Specifiers can generate NBS Specification documents that clearly define the scope of works for the roofing installation, covering the

suitability of selected roof tiles, fittings, systems, and accessories based on project-specific criteria.

For the first time, specifiers can incorporate a solar PV array directly within the platform using an intuitive configurator. The tool calculates panel numbers, associated flashings, and accessories, and provides guidance on expected kW output. It also automatically adjusts roof tile quantities to reflect the inclusion of solar PV, delivering a fully transparent overview of materials and installation requirements with solar PV designed in from the outset. Dan Redfern Head of Marketing Communications at Marley, said: “The new Technical Tools platform has been developed to remove complexity from the roofing specification process.”

F.Ball

F. Ball products perform in sports complex

Technical advice and products from F. Ball and Co. Ltd., have helped to overcome subfloor preparation challenges and provide a surface that will stand up to years of expected wear in a sports complex in Tallaght, Co. Dublin, Ireland. Based on this assessment, F. Ball’s Ireland technical representative and detailed specification by F. Ball and Co. Ltd. recommended that the subfloor was first primed with the company’s Stopgap P131 general-purpose primer before applying Stopgap 1200 smoothing compound over the entire 600m2 area to create a smooth base for other subfloor preparation products. As well as being suitable for application over old adhesive residues, the product is moisture tolerant, meaning that it can be used to smooth rough or uneven subfloors.

Innovative materials like fermacell® fibre gypsum boards are transforming how architects approach internal wall construction, offering a smarter, faster alternative to traditional blockwork and plasterboard systems without sacrificing strength or performance. One of the most compelling advantages of fermacell® fibre gypsum boards are their installation flexibility. in parallel and reducing idle time on site. Speed is another critical factor. fermacell® fibre gypsum boards are quicker to install than blockwork, thanks to its dry construction method and ease of handling. There’s no need for wet trades, curing times, or complex logistics around mortar and mixing. fermacell® fibre gypsum boards deliver the strength and durability of blockwork, making them suitable for high-impact areas, crowd loading applications and demanding environments. Installers can move swiftly, and the boards can be cut and fixed with standard tools, streamlining the process even further. For architects working on tight deadlines or fast-track projects, this speed translates directly into time saved and milestones met.

Zoo Hardware has strengthened the accessibility credentials of a popular door lever set to support visually impaired users.

The brand’s ZCS030LL Lift-to-Lock Return to Door Lever Sets now feature The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) approved Braille, making them more accessible than ever for visually impaired users. Previously, the escutcheon plates displayed the words “lift handle to lock” laser-etched directly on the surface. While this method was clear in some finishes, visibility could diminish in certain lighting conditions or on darker materials. In response,

Zoo Hardware has redesigned the plates with high-contrast, bold printed lettering and Braille. This enhancement underlines Zoo Hardware’s ongoing commitment to inclusive, user-centred design that combines functionality, style, and safety. Jack Burford, Product Development Designer at Zoo Hardware, said: “Accessibility needs to be factored into all elements of design in order to reflect the world around us. “We’re proud to have introduced improved features, including RNIB approved braille, to ensure our products offer both practicality and inclusivity for the widest user base possible.”

The new system has also been designed to work seamlessly with Senior’s aluminium Louvre Guard, without the need for any additional profile materials.

Solarlux

Sliding doors and bifold doors for a luxury home

Cero III sliding doors and Highline bifold doors from Solarlux offered aesthetics, thermal performance and seamless indoor-outdoor living for a self-build home.

Solarlux’s precision-engineered aluminium-frame systems offered the ideal combination of strength, weather resistance and elegance. With engineered steel reinforcement in the handle profile, Cero III sliding doors can support glazing sizes and weights higher than typical system limits. Depending on the configuration and installation, these sliding doors can achieve wind-load resistance up to Class C5, as tested to EN 12210, meaning the glazing remains rigid and stable even under pressures equivalent to winds of around 180 km/h. The Cero III profile incorporates a multi-chamber frame design, with internal brush seals and gaskets to manage air and water infiltration.

TBA FIREFLY

FIREFLY Phoenix curtain specified to protect warehouse

A vast warehouse in the Medway area of Kent has had its fire performance upgraded by a regular FIREFLY® customer utilising the manufacturer’s Phoenix barrier material together with the recently launched 180 ablative batt and ancillary products to create a curtain running around the building perimeter. The work at the Noatum Logistics ePort warehouse was carried out by Essex based T and R Fire Protection using a variety of access approaches to attach the lightweight Phoenix barriers to roof purlins and floor beams. FIREFLY®’s high temperature adhesive and special staples were used to secure the 150mm overlaps between lengths of the Phoenix material, as well as to secure the curtains to the lengths of steel angle and heavier section Unistruts.
