GMA’s #GroundsWeek returns for 2026 and continues to grow

The GMA has announced the return of the annual awareness campaign, #GroundsWeek, taking place from 23-29 March 2026.

Following a hugely successful campaign in 2025, which reached more than 20 million people worldwide, including audiences in Australia, #GroundsWeek is once again set to shine a spotlight on the professionals and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the UK’s playing surfaces and green spaces thriving.

Last year’s campaign received widespread support from major sporting organisations including England Football, The All-England Lawn Tennis Club, Lord’s Cricket Ground, Wembley Stadium and England Rugby, helping to amplify the vital role of grounds staff across all sports and community environments.

#GroundsWeek is a nationwide celebration of the expertise that go in to creating and maintaining high-quality playing surfaces. The campaign aims to raise public awareness of the grounds management industry and

encourage a deeper appreciation for the work involved.

The GMA is encouraging everyone connected to the industry - clubs, organisations, professional grounds teams, volunteers and anyone working in grounds care - to take part throughout the week.

To make it easier than ever to get involved the GMA has launched a dedicated #GroundsWeek Engagement Pack, offering a suite of downloadable resources to make involvement simple and

accessible. The pack includes social media graphics, editable templates and tools to help individuals and organisations celebrate.

“Grounds teams are essential but too often unnoticed,” said Geoff Webb, CEO of the Grounds Management Association. “#GroundsWeek is our opportunity to change that narrative and celebrate the people who make sport and outdoor spaces possible.

“The incredible reach of last year’s campaign showed the

strength of our community when we stand together. In 2026, we’re determined to build on that momentum and shine an even brighter light on the people whose work benefits millions every single day.”

#GroundsWeek is proudly backed by GMA Platinum Corporate Supporters Kubota (UK), Howardson Group, ICL Group, MJ Abbott, Premier Pitches, GKB Machines, ISEKI UK & Ireland and Cramer, alongside GMA Gold Corporate Supporters Rada UK,

Aquatrols Europe, Redexim, RT Machinery, SGL and Husqvarna UK.

Burnham & Berrow and Royal Aberdeen claim BIGGA Awards

The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) has revealed the winners of the BIGGA Awards 2026 on the opening night of BTME, recognising outstanding achievement, innovation and commitment across the greenkeeping profession.

The prize for Championship Greenkeeping Performance of the Year with Bernhard & Company was awarded to Burnham & Berrow, while the Greenkeeping Project of the Year award with Price

Turfcare went to Royal Aberdeen on a memorable evening celebrating excellence across the profession.

Burnham & Berrow’s award recognised the team’s exceptional response to an unprecedented challenge ahead of Final Open Qualifying. With just eight weeks to act, the team delivered innovative solutions after deliberate chemical vandalism damaged multiple greens.

The evening also saw BIGGA present its Outstanding

Contribution award with Kress to John Millen in recognition of a career that has left a lasting impact on the association and the wider greenkeeping profession.

The BIGGA Awards were established to recognise the exceptionally high standards, professionalism and dedication demonstrated by greenkeepers throughout the year.

The 2026 version of BTME proved yet another triumph for organisers BIGGA with both the exhibition halls and Continue to Learn seminar programme packed out across the best part of a week in Harrogate.

With so many companies launching new products and initiatives it saw significant numbers of visitors making their way through the various halls and in some cases delaying their usual afternoon tour of the town’s hospitality venues in favour of learning more about the latest developments.

Of course, that social networking opportunity was accepted gratefully by the vast majority attending the event and with some companies hosting evening events for customers and dealers there was plen ty to occupy the time.

As ever, BTME has kick-started the new year in fine style and with plenty of new developments coming to market from the exhibition stands in the next few months there is a buoyant mood to get 20 26 moving forward.

This month, we have special features on the Play & Activity sector which has secured long-awaited investment from the Government and Jane Carley takes a look at how technology is making a big impact on the Hedge & Verge mowing market.

We put the product spotlight on Sweepers, Blowers, Collectors and Vacuums and an insight into the models suitable for the groundscare and urban environment markets.

There is also the usual look at the Hard & Soft Landscape sector, as well as the latest machinery and vehicles making an impact across the wider industry. We also round up all the new launches and c ase studies.

As we look ahead to what promises to be another challenging and unpredictable 12 months, there are plenty of positives to be seen throughout the industry at present. From new products to new investment and political recognition, the vital role the wider industry plays in the social and economic well-being of the nation and the global impact it enjoys is something we will continue to cover throughout 2026 and beyond.

Have a great month everyone.

Funding for new and upgraded grassroots sport facilities

Nearly 1000 community projects across the UK are benefitting from new allweather pitches, extended playing hours through floodlighting, and modern changing facilities designed to welcome underserved groups like women and girls, in a new boost for grassroots sport facilities by the Government.

The projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have been awarded funding through the MultiSport Grassroots Facilities Programme in 2025/26, with more beneficiaries to be announced soon.

Sports clubs and organisations will also benefit from new goalposts, fencing and new changing pavilions – all of which help make sites more accessible and sustainable for local communities. To ensure broader participation beyond football, at least 40% of funded projects must have a multi-sport

offer. This approach will give more people access to a wider variety of sports and activities.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, said: “We’re supporting communities that have made do with run-down pitches and crumbling changing rooms for years. This government is turning that around – building the facilities that get people active, bring communities together, and nurture the next generation of sporting talent.”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said: “High quality sports facilities are vital. This season we’ve been celebrating 25 years of game changing impact in the grassroots game thanks to £1.3bn of funding from our partners the Premier League, The FA and Government since we started work in 2000.”

valuable and widely recognised ecological resource.

Sarah added: “Together, the finalists involved with Operation Pollinator have created a vast network of habitats for pollinating insects and wider biodiversity in well managed habitats, alongside managing turf for golf and sport.

“Using Operation Pollinator to learn from each other’s experiences and share best practices for both habitat management and communicating with clubs and players is a huge benefit, and a great way for the industry to demonstrate the value of golf as a positive ecological resource.”

Pollinator Award provides a great opportunity for greenkeepers and the golf industry to showcase the immense ecological resource that has been created.

“It’s a good news story for you, your team and your club,” she adds.

“When managed appropriately, golf courses can significantly enhance biodiversity, conserve rare habitats, and be a leading sector in promoting positive environmental practices.

“By addressing the needs of local ecosystems and communities, golf courses can provide more habitats of a larger size, which will increase connectivity, while a creating more enjoyable playing experience for golfers.”

The Kress Mega 600 redefines sports turf maintenance

The arrival of the new Kress Mega 600 robot mower marks a pivotal moment for sports turf management.

The KR238E Kress Master series Mega 600 has been developed for continuous, overnight operation across large and demanding turf areas autonomous mowing system delivers tournamentquality results while addressing the persistent challenges of labour costs, environmental impact, and consistency that have long plagued groundskeepers.

What sets the Mega 600 apart is its precision engineering tailored specifically for sports surfaces. The 620mm deck with on-board roller paired with high-speed blades operates at 3,800 rpm, creating professional striping patterns between three and six meters wide that rival traditional mowers. But unlike conventional equipment, this robotic solution

maintains these standards autonomously, completing 22,000 square meters in just twelve hours with remarkable consistency.

The technology behind this efficiency is equally impressive. Centimetre-level RTK satellite positioning eliminates the need for boundary wires while ensuring systematic coverage in parallel lines. Terrain-adaptive dual floating decks adjust automatically to undulating surfaces, preventing scalping and delivering an even cut regardless of ground contours. The system achieves an industry-low 10mm cutting height with millimetre precision, crucial for sports fields where playing surface quality directly impacts athlete performance and safety.

Perhaps most significant for facilities managers is the operational flexibility. Fast

3-YEAR/3000 HOUR WARRANTY TFM TELEMATICS WITH 5-YEAR FREE SUBSCRIPTION

30-minute charging cycles with nearest-dock return functionality maximise working time, while the quiet electric operation allows nighttime mowing without disturbing neighbouring communities. This scheduling freedom means sports fields can be maintained during off-peak hours, eliminating conflicts with practice schedules and events.

The environmental benefits are substantial. Zero emissions, reduced noise pollution, and elimination of fuel costs align with growing sustainability mandates facing the industry. For sports turf professionals seeking to elevate surface quality while controlling costs, the Kress Mega 600 represents not just an equipment upgrade, but a fundamental reimagining of what’s possible in field maintenance.

Repointing random-sized joints in random-sized, stone paving

This prestige holiday home overlooks the beautiful River Avon estuary in South Devon, and it underwent a major refurbishment in 2018, including repointing the extensive original natural slate pathways, patios and terraces, which were repointed

using traditional cement-based pointing by the builders.

Unfortunately, this feature paving continued to need more repairs and repointing in some areas every year, to the extent that by summer 2025, it was also becoming unsightly, with the patches and more areas of

cracked, failing pointing, breaking up in the joints.

As well as unsightly, it had also become dangerous and was potentially a hazard for guests, so the owners turned to Gorah Stone, specialist stone restoration contractors, and asked them for a more durable and permanent solution.

This original slate paving was laid with random sized, shaped, and thickness of slate slabs, and the work had to be done quickly in October 2025, with a high risk of wet conditions in this exposed coastal location, which together presented critical issues for successful paving jointing:

• Firstly, the joints between the slabs were not uniform and extremely varied in both width and depth, plus for most of the joint lengths, the joint arrises (edges) and sides were also varied, not parallel. Paving joint dimensions of this nature have a very high risk of failure, especially for cement-based mortars, due to the unavoidably high levels of differential shrinkage stress created during the cement hydration and hardening process, leading to initial cracking, as well as to further stress cracking from thermal movement in service.

• Secondly, as the property is always heavily booked for guests, the repointing works had to be carried out and completed quickly during a short closure in October 2025, ready for new guests arriving the next week. This meant that during the pointing works, wet weather conditions were almost inevitable in this location, but all cement-based materials and ‘resin’-based jointing compounds, must be applied in dry conditions, with no residual water in the joints. They must then then be allowed to harden before

exposure to any rainfall, or run-off, otherwise, shrinkage cracking and premature failure is once again inevitable.

To find a solution for all these issues, Gorah Stone contacted NCC Streetscape, the leading paving jointing specialists, for expert advice and fortunately, they had the answer.

This was to use GftK vdw 850 plus, a unique, 2nd-generation, epoxy jointing mortar, which is reaction hardening, free of physical shrinkage, and the only truly wet-weather paving jointing.

Variable joint dimensions are therefore also no problem, and it can be used in wet conditions, even in the rain.

NCC Streetscape’s Technical Service manager also arranged to support Gorah on site with their first use of GftK vdw 850 plus, and they quickly and efficiently completed all the necessary preparation and repointing, despite the weather, and it is now good for many years to come.

Council celebrates completion of landmark programme

East Devon District Council has successfully completed a major £1.2 million playground investment programme, delivering ten brand-new play areas across the district in partnership with Proludic during 2025.

Secured through a competitive tender process, the project set out an ambitious brief: to create ten exciting, bespoke play spaces, each with its own identity, while remaining sensitive to the character of their surrounding communities.

Proludic’s in-house design team responded with tailored solutions that balance creativity, inclusivity and sustainability

across East Devon’s diverse rural and coastal locations.

To minimise disruption to families, the works were carefully phased. Five sites were completed ahead of the summer holidays to ensure continued access to local play, with installations paused during the peak holiday period before resuming in September. The remaining sites were delivered by the end of November, meeting the Council’s programme, budget and quality expectations across a 30-mile radius.

In total, 97 pieces of play and sports equipment were

installed, providing more than 858 individual play values for over 851 children. Inclusion was central to the scheme, with 76% of equipment featuring inclusive elements. Designs considered children with neurodivergent characteristics, mobility challenges and differing physical abilities, as well as the needs of parents and carers.

Sustainability also played a key role. Across all sites, Proludic specified high-quality materials, including sustainably sourced timber and products containing recycled content. Baker Close in Sidmouth features a Diabolo multiplay unit manufactured from

80–100% recycled materials, highlighting the project’s environmental commitment.

Each site reflects its local context, from maritime-themed play at Carter Avenue in Exmouth to a bespoke river otter structure at Land of Canaan in Ottery St Mary. Funded through the Council’s Capital Programme and S106 contributions, the completed scheme represents a long-term investment in East Devon’s communities, turning careful planning into meaningful play for years to come.

School delighted with sports hall transformation

Romilly Primary School in Barry, Wales was well overdue with its flooring upgrade and required a fast-track sustainable renovation.

The sports floor would need to meet a high-performance criterion for safety and comfort to protect its young users, whilst also meeting modern standards. Gerflor were delighted to assist with this transformation with the supply of its Taraflex Evolution SL Sports Flooring.

From a sustainability perspective, the project incorporated the Taraflex Evolution SL product, a loose-lay flooring solution selected for its environmental benefits. By removing the need for adhesive, this option not only reduces the environmental impact but also

allows the floor to be recycled at the end of its 25-year life cycle.

Installed using double-sided tape, the floor can be easily removed, enabling minor repairs to the undercarriage before a new floor is laid. In contrast, using adhesives would have compromised the undercarriage, making Taraflex SL Sports Flooring the natural choice as a more sustainable and practical solution.

The Taraflex sports range of products continue to be a popular choice for community centres, sports, and leisure facilities, as well as education sports halls across the UK, Republic of Ireland and worldwide.

Time to rebalance screens with sport and

As calls grow for tighter social media restrictions, Youth Sport Trust warns digital dependency is undermining children’s health, happiness and life chances and urges renewed investment in play and sport to combat this.

Growing calls for a social media ban or greater restrictions highlights that there is now a tipping point in this debate.

Back in 2015, YST published the first of what has since become a trilogy of Class of 2035 reports warning of a generation being held hostage by handheld

play

devices. The onset of a society where digital supersedes human interaction and social algorithms drive dependency is affecting children’s cognitive, social and emotional development and driving physical activity levels down, further impacting on normal growth and development, as well as their health happiness and life chances.

The recent Class of 2035 report warned without change, the situation will continue to deteriorate. In a decade’s time, if the current trajectory persists half of children will be using screens for entertainment purposes alone for at least three hours a day and we will see more conditions such as Type II Diabetes.

The need to reimagine childhood is clearer than ever, balancing the demands of the digital world through the human connection of physical play and sport. Moving away from screens and social media can give children back time for play and movement, key to physical development, skills, socialisation and having fun.

Well-groomed hedges now simpler and more cost-effective

Hatts Group, a family-run contracting business, is delivering pristine hedge cutting for their customers with Major Rotary Hedge Cutter.

With clients like the MoD, USAF and National Highway projects, the Hatts Group also manages hedge cutting in over 10,000 acres of farmland.

Their previous flail head decks, while effective, failed to meet demands for a clean, professional finish and created debris hazards. Benny Hattersley is the business’s second-generation owner. “We are really impressed with the quality of the machine.

The new style of hedge cutting head offers our customers a qualify finish way ahead of anything we had before,” explained Benny.

The MJ39-143 model, mounted on their Energreen

self-propelled unit, uses less horsepower and offers easier maintenance than traditional flail systems. With two rotors and four blades per rotor, the rotary head delivers a fine mulch without the debris associated with flails.

Maintenance is quick, requiring just greasing and occasional blade sharpening. Fuel savings are significant, with the MJ39 cutting fuel consumption by 250 litres of fuel weekly, saving the company £180-200 per week.

Benny praises the quieter operation and quality finish, which satisfies customers and makes the process safer. After a successful first season, Hatts Group plans to add more MJ39 units to their fleet, replacing high-maintenance flails.

It’s not very often that there’s a shark sighting in Carmarthenshire, but for Anthony and Fairclough, the Müthing MU-Vario Shark flail mower from Simon Richard Ltd has the right bite.

With sheep and cattle enterprises plus 34,000 free range hens, managing grassland is a key task.

“We had a small rotary topper, but thistles and rushes grow strongly on our undulating land and it just wasn’t up to the job,” explains Ben Anthony, who runs the family business with his partner Diana Fairclough.

A conversation with local dealer Cliff Jenkins Machinery brought the suggestion of the robust 2.8m Müthing MUVario Shark front mounted flail.

“Operated out front, it means that the tractor is not running down the grass ahead of it, and

the Shark’s gearbox is rated at 200hp so it was a good match for my Valtra T613.”

The Shark special edition has an uprated hydraulic 56cm side shift system with plastic bushes for extra wear resistance, plus a hood wear plate. Fitted with Duramax-M hammer flails, its name and eye-catching paintwork is a nod to the patented shark fin chopping bar which adjusts to ensure that longer vegetation such as rushes and thistles are comprehensively mulched.

“We expect to cut 150 acres a year with the machine, and we’re mowing areas that we couldn’t tackle before, ” says Ben.

“It has shredded the thistles and rushes, yet it can also produce a finer cut for use as a topper. We really like the versatility,” he concludes.

Robots march on turf

The robot mower market has got a whole lot busier in the last 12 months, with manufacturers targeting professional users, reports Jane Carley. developed in-house by STIGA and used across the entire Professional range, designed to be removable, portable and swappable between different machines. Its modular design means that multiple batteries can be combined to extend autonomy.

Increasing use of RTK navigation, LIDAR object avoidance and on-board cameras is making robotic mowers more suited to work in professional groundcare settings and even as a contractors’ tool. Without the need for boundary wires, the robot can be quickly set up for a new location and can be monitored remotely while the operator gets on with other tasks.

And why stop at mowing?

Autonomous machines are showing capabilities for spraying, line marking and turf brushing, taking care of monotonous, time-consuming tasks, and there will doubtless be more to come in this area.

STIGA’s move into the professional sector is marked by the introduction of its ePower Pro Battery, a modular system

The flagship of the new offering is the APX Pro autonomous robot, designed for the maintenance of public parks, sports fields and large green spaces. It integrates a full system of sensors with AGS, GPS-RTK, LIDAR and gyroscope technologies for robot positioning and navigation. It integrates STIGA Vista Technology, an AI-driven onboard camera, and an ultrasonic sensor to detect and avoid fixed or moving obstacles, on the lawn. APX Pro is equipped with the 110cm Combi ePro 110 Q Plus cutting deck.

Designed for multi-site work, the robot is easily transportable and fully manageable via the STIGA.GO App and STIGA Web Pro App, which enable activity planning and predictive maintenance. With a single charge (six ePower Pro batteries), APX Pro can cover up to 27,000m², ensuring a uniform, safe and highly productive cut.

The STIGA Web Pro App is a browser-based platform, accessible via desktop, tablet, and smartphone. The platform allows users to oversee all products simultaneously from a single interface, providing clear status overviews, predictive alerts, self-service guidance, and rapid diagnostics to minimise downtime and maximise operational efficiency.

Toro has a growing autonomous mowing portfolio, including the Turf Pro 300 and 500 range and the Greensmaster eTriFlex 3360 equipped with GeoLink Mow – which combine precise cutting performance with advanced positioning and remote fleet management.

The Toro Turf Pro 300 and 500 are robotic mowers designed to operate autonomously across fairways, sports fields, parks and estates. Battery-powered and remarkably quiet, Turf Pro machines mow with minimal noise disruption, helping teams stay productive even during sensitive hours or near residential areas.

Using high-accuracy GPS and RTK positioning, each mower operates within pre-defined virtual boundaries. Before operation begins, the site is carefully mapped, with mowing zones, transport routes and

no-go areas programmed into the system. Once deployed, the Turf Pro 300 and 500 follow optimised patterns and mow up to 11 acres (45,000m 2) and 18.5 acres (75,000m²) per charge respectively, returning automatically to the closest charging station when needed.

Multiple onboard safety systems – including obstacle detection sensors and automatic shutdown features – ensure safe operation, while remote monitoring via app or desktop dashboard allows operators to oversee performance, schedules and machine status in real time.

The hybrid Greensmaster eTriFlex 3360 with GeoLink Mow can also be used either manually or autonomously, pairing precise greens trimming with GPS and RTK-guided operations for repeatable, accurate mowing patterns.

In autonomous mode, the machine navigates areas delimited by pre-selected virtual boundaries without needing further operator input – although supervision is still required, and users can still adjust mowing speed or cutting functions in real-time.

As with the Turf Pro range, improved visibility from remote supervision enhances situational awareness, allowing quicker, more informed adjustments while keeping operators out of areas with potential hazard; these machines are suitable for applications from roadside verges and embankments to steep banks and confined spaces, says Toro.

Purchase of these machines is backed by Reesink Turfcare’s site assessment, installation and ongoing training expertise.

Bobcat cuts through the undergrowth

Bobcat has also expanded the company’s Brushcat Rotary Cutter Range with new deck sizes for the SALs.

The new Brushcat attachments offer cutting widths of 1118 and 1372 mm, respectively, and are the smallest models in the full line-up of Brushcat rotary cutters, which offers larger models with cutting widths of 1676, 1829 or 2032 mm.

Like the larger models, the two new smaller Brushcat attachments deliver powerful cutting and mulching action in areas of untamed growth and can pass through gates and other narrow entrances to work in areas that are inaccessible to larger machines. They are designed to handle tough brush clearing jobs in a wide variety of applications, such as agriculture, forestry, landscaping, municipalities, parks and recreation areas.

For use with Bobcat compact loaders and selected telehandlers, Flail Cutter attachments are ideal for cutting through overgrowth on construction sites as well as alongside roads and sidewalks. They adjust to follow the ground contours. A variable speed displacement motor allows the flail cutter to be ‘tuned in’ to the Bobcat carrier, depending on its hydraulic capacity.

By varying the motor displacement to accept auxiliary hydraulic flows ranging from 64 to 151 l/min, the flail cutter can be operated on many different carriers.

A floating linkage is standard on the flail cutter. This, along with the attachment’s compact deck length, lets the unit follow the contour of the land regardless of the pitch or attitude of the carrier, permitting the cutter up to ten degrees of oscillation.

Another set of attachments in this area are the Self-levelling Flail Mowers which when mounted on a wide range of Bobcat mini excavators are ideal for shredding vegetation on any terrain, including roadways or ditches, or to clear out shrubs and long grass from forgotten areas.

With the help of the excavator’s arm the flail mower can reach where other mowers can not, including hillsides, roadways, ditches, trails, riverbanks and utility right-of-ways. Using the powerful triple knife flails, users can mulch small branches, saplings, thick grass and other vegetation.

Pellenc expands the Airion range

In the evolving landscape of professional grounds maintenance, the shift toward battery-powered solutions is no longer a trend - it’s a prerequisite.

As local authorities and landscaping contractors face increasing pressure to reduce noise and eliminate emissions, Pellenc continues to lead the charge. The expansion of their blower range, specifically with the Airion Airion Essential, provides a tailored solution for every scale of amenity task, from intensive leaf clearance to precision urban tidying.

While the Backpack model tackles the “heavy lifting,” the Airion Essential serves the needs of operators looking for a lighter, more agile tool without sacrificing professionalgrade durability. Part of Pellenc’s “Essential” range, this handheld blower is designed for practicality and high frequency of use in parks, schools, and urban areas.

Despite its compact profile, the Essential doesn’t compromise on power, offering 23N of thrust in Boost mode. It inherits the patented angled air intake from the flagship Airion 3, a design choice that naturally compensates for the tool’s torque. This prevents the nozzle from dipping, sparing the user’s wrist from the constant “seesaw” motion common with straight-intake blowers.

For large-scale clearance where petrol power was once the only viable option, the Airion Backpack emerges as a formidable successor. Delivering a staggering 27 Newtons (N) of thrust and an airflow of 1,445 m 3/h it is currently the most powerful battery-powered backpack blower on the professional market.

GKB aeration duo making a real

difference

For Mike Powles and his team of six volunteer grounds staff at

Le

Sports Club, the aim of their maintenance is simple: to keep the surfaces in the best possible condition all year round.

That task is now much easier thanks to the purchase of a Deep Tine Aerator (DTA) and Combislit from GKB Machines – allowing the club to maintain consistently high-quality pitches, without reliance on external contractors.

Looking for a more flexible and cost-effective solution, Mike attended SALTEX, where he said the GKB Deep Tine Aerator (DTA) stood out straight away: “We now

have full control over where and when we aerate. If conditions are good, we get it on the back of the tractor and away we go.”

Impressed by the performance of the DTA, the club returned to Ernest Doe earlier in 2025 to add a GKB Combislit to their fleet.

Together, the DTA and Combislit now give Walsham Le Willows year-round options for aeration, whether the upper surface needs opening or for when deeper penetration is required.

Redexim helps sports club stay match-ready

With over two decades of experience in groundsmanship, Jay Berkhauer, Head Groundsperson at Sidcup Sports Club, has seen his fair share of challenging pitches.

But since introducing the Redexim Verti-Drain 7212, Jay says things are looking brighter than ever for the busy multi-sport site.

That intense schedule, combined with high footfall and limited budgets, makes every decision crucial. Compaction had become a major issue at Sidcup Sports Club, particularly on the rugby pitches, where play takes place almost every day of the week.

Jay opted for the Redexim Verti-Drain 7212, a compact yet powerful model ideal for lower horsepower tractors and sensitive turf areas. With

a working width of 1.6 metres and a maximum depth of 10 inches (25cm), it was the perfect fit for Sidcup’s needs.

One of the standout features for Jay is the heave action, which sets the Verti-Drain apart from other machines available. “With the VertiDrain, the tines don’t just go straight in and out – they kick and lift slightly as they move through the soil,” he explains.

“That heave action breaks up the compaction beneath the surface. It’s not just punching holes – it’s cracking the ground and waking the subsoil up.”

Owning the Verti-Drain has also given Sidcup Sports Club greater control and cost-efficiency.

Treating slippery surfaces with ECOPROTEC

A build-up of algae on paths, steps, driveways and patios creates a slippery residue and a hazard underfoot.

Algae tends to flourish in damp, shady and humid areas and, in the UK, build-up is especially common in the winter.

ECOPROTEC provides the solution with Black Spot & Algae Remover – an acid-free treatment that safely restores safety and appearance to all types of pavers,

including acid-sensitive natural stone, concrete, brick and porcelain. The treatment is easy to apply and gives results in as little as two hours.

ECOPROTEC Black Spot & Algae Remover removes all types of algae, along with dirt and other residue. It is applied neat to swept pavers using a watering can or light pressure garden sprayer, and left to act for up to 4 hours.

The formula breaks down residue and removes stains.

Most stains are removed within hours of application. Exposure to the air for four hours or longer ensures that the potency of the product has diminished before hosing surfaces down with clean water. This helps to ensure that the diluted wash-off is as harmless as possible to plants and lawns. The remover can be used on dry and slightly damp surfaces and should be applied during a morning or afternoon of fair weather.

After treatment, newly cleaned surfaces can be protected with ECOPROTEC Patio Sealer, ECOPROTEC Porcelain Paving Enhancer or ECOPROTEC Pre Grout Protection. These treatments create a barrier that helps to prevent absorption of moisture and organic particles, reducing staining and the spread of algae, mould and black spot.
