New guide to BIM for landscaping is published BIM for Landscape is the first book of its kind to focus on the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes in landscape and the external environment. BIM is a process that will model all data relating to the design, costs and sustainability of a project from design through construction and operation. It will bring the practice of simulation and prototyping for the first time into landscape architecture, saving money and leading ultimately to better designs.
‘BIM for landscape’ will not be the Holy Grail to deliver BIM but will signpost the key BIM documents, often referred to as the Pillars of BIM, and discuss what landscape practices need to consider to become BIM compliant. It is intended to prepare practitioners and landscape architecture practices to meet the challenges and benefit from the rewards of working with BIM. It has been designed in three sections; Introduction and how to prepare for BIM; BIM Implementation and technological aspects of BIM.
The UK is a world leader in this field and the key objective is a 20% reduction in capital costs from the construction and operation of the built environment. It heralds a new chapter in inter-disciplinary relationships.
Mike Shilton, chair of Landscape Institute’s BIM working group, said: “By publishing ‘BIM for Landscape’ the Landscape Institute is trying to help landscape architecture practices make an
informed business decision as to whether they should adopt BIM or not. Many practices may seek a competitive edge by proactively implementing BIM but for others, they will need to review whether this is relevant to them. Hopefully, the book will help their decision making process. “Conversion to BIM enabled platforms from current practices may incur additional expenses and training but if a competitor is delivering projects more efficiently, on time and to budget by implementing BIM processes, and clients’ are achieving the targeted 20% savings BIM can deliver, it may become more difficult for you to compete.” Landscape Institute Enquiry 1
Boningale teams Theme parks turn to John Deere up with Mobilane John Deere has struck fleet deals with Thorpe Park Resort and Chessington World of Adventures Resort.
Boningale Nurseries has further strengthened its product range after agreeing to supply instant “green walls” created by panEuropean company Mobilane. Frank Sandford, Sales and Marketing Director at Boningale, which is based in Albrighton, Shropshire, said: “The Mobilane Green Screens complement and add an exciting new dimension to our environmental product offer; this will benefit all our businesses that work with both commercial and domestic customers nationally.”

The deal at Thorpe Park brings the working relationship between the two businesses into its 23rd year, while it is the first time John Deere will work with the other Surrey-based attraction.
The screen, which comes with a 10-year guarantee, sits in a biodegradable base and the plants can be cut to the required height or width using a standard bolt cutter.
Thorpe Park Resort is one of the country’s oldest customers of John Deere’s Gator utility vehicle, which features strongly once more in the Resort’s latest three-year grounds equipment fleet renewal deal.
“The quieter TE electric Gators are especially useful due to the daily bird counts and conservation work that take place here at Thorpe Park Resort,” said senior landscape and conservation manager Ian Stanbridge.
