Green spaces ‘vital’ during COVID-19 pandemic With outdoor sport and physical activity reopening, Sport England has put together a suite of resources to help the sector return to play. A combination of improving weather and the successful vaccine rollout looks set to boost people’s motivations and ability to be more active now outdoor grassroots sport and physical activity is allowed for all ages. One year on since the UK went into national lockdown, national land management charity, the Land Trust, has published the results of a recent survey which shows how important green spaces have been for people throughout the pandemic. Over 90% of participants said they think that spending time in green spaces has had a positive effect on their mental and physical health throughout the pandemic. With people using green spaces for exercise, nature watching or spending time with their family, this has had a
particular impact on people’s mental health. Ninety-five per cent of respondents said spending time in green space had a positive effect on their mental health.
since the first lockdown began. With limited budgets and restrictions prohibiting volunteering activity during most of the last year, maintaining 80+ sites as a charity has been a challenge.
The Land Trust kept as many of its 80 parks and green spaces open as possible throughout 2020 so that local communities could benefit from spending time in well-managed green space.
Alan Carter, Director of Portfolio Management at the Land Trust, said: “I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to achieve and provide for so many people throughout the pandemic.
This saw an increase in park users, with a 20% rise in people visiting green spaces every day
“I know how important it’s been to have a clean, safe space to use for that daily escape from the
house, and it’s through the hard work of our dedicated managing partners and estates team that we’ve been able to provide this. “As a charity we rely on limited budgets and amazing teams of volunteers to help keep our sites maintained and improving. “It’s been a testing time but to know people have been using our spaces and reaping the benefits of using green spaces through the pandemic means our hard work has paid off.” Land Trust

The new FSA 86 R offers the low weight of its predecessor, the FSA 85, with added features like the ergo lever handle cutting attachments that can be changed by hand, a new design and more power. The all-new high revving direct drive motor produces 20% more power, delivering outstanding cutting performance. The EC motor also offers excellent efficiency during operation, ensuring it permanently monitors the load and adjusts the engine accordingly.
Additionally, the exceptional power-to-weight ratio makes the tool incredibly easy to use, particularly for line-trimming around boarders and trees, without the need of metal cutting tools or a full bike-handle brushcutter. Although the new AutoCut C 6-2 cutting head is fitted as standard, the new PolyCut 6-2 is available as an alternative option that can be fitted without the need for tools. For more challenging jobs, the new DuroCut 5-2 is also available and ideally suited for dense grass and light scrub. The FSA 86 R features a new battery housing and component design, enabling users to easily insert STIHL’s high-performance
36V AP batteries, ideal for professional use. Users can take working time from 35 minutes to 60 minutes when using STIHL’s AP 200 battery. STIHL
