The safari camps were outstanding, the food was delicious, and the service was truly world-class. Every guide, driver and member of staff we met was warm, professional and incredibly capable. Watching a pack of wild dogs cross a river in pursuit of prey, and later seeing five lionesses with their cubs gathered around a zebra kill before heading to the river for a drink, will stay with us forever. If you’re considering a safari, book with African Portfolio. Their knowledge of Africa, its camps, lodges and extraordinary experiences is second to none.

Why Safari? We believe the most unforgettable safaris are the ones that feel personal – the ones that stay with you long after you return home. The thrill of seeing wildlife in its natural habitat, the people you meet along the way, and the feeling of being fully immersed in Africa’s wild beauty inspire everything we do. A safari invites you to slow down and experience Africa at nature’s pace. Early mornings, unhurried game drives, and evenings around the campfire create the space to truly appreciate the beauty of the wild. It is also a chance to reconnect. Whether traveling as a couple, with family, or among friends, sharing unforgettable wildlife encounters and time together in nature creates memories that last a lifetime.

I was slightly concerned that friends had built it up as the trip of a lifetime, and I wondered whether my expectations had been set impossibly high. But nothing could have prepared me for an experience like this. It was deeply personal, profoundly moving, and exhilarating all at once. Even with all the praise, it still exceeded every expectation. SHELLEY RAHE
A Day on Safari
The day begins before sunrise, when a gentle knock at the door signals the start of the morning’s adventure.
The first few hours of daylight are often the most rewarding. Wildlife is active, temperatures are cool, and the bush feels full of possibility. Accompanied by your guide, you may spend the morning following fresh tracks, watching giraffe browse in the treetops, or pausing quietly as a pride of lions settles after a night of hunting.
Ol Jogi, Silverless
Back at camp, the pace slows. Brunch is served overlooking the open plains, followed by a few unhurried hours to read, relax, or simply watch the wildlife that passes through camp during the heat of the day.

As afternoon turns to evening, attention shifts back to the bush. Game drives continue into the golden light of late afternoon before stopping for sundowners as the sun drops below the horizon. It is often the most beautiful time of day.
Dinner is served after dark, when conversations drift from the day’s sightings to plans for tomorrow. Later, lantern in hand, make your way back to your room while the sounds of the wilderness continue beyond camp. A distant lion call, the whoop of a hyena, or the rustle of something moving through the darkness are often the last things you hear before sleep. Richards Camp, Silverless

AFRICAN PORTFOLIO
At African Portfolio, we believe a great safari does more than create unforgettable memories. It creates lasting change. When you travel with us, you become part of something larger: a community of travelers, guides, conservationists, and local organizations working together to protect Africa’s wild places and the people who call them home.
Tourism is one of Africa’s most powerful economic engines, and every safari we craft puts money directly into local hands, supporting guides, lodge staff, community suppliers, and the families who depend on them. But we go further. A portion of the revenue we generate is donated to community development organizations we have supported for years, because lasting conservation begins with people.

RIDE 4 A WOMAN, UGANDA
A non-profit based in Cape Town, Uthando (“love” in Xhosa) channels funds into life-changing community projects across townships and beyond: urban gardens, early childhood development centers, food banks, and boys’ choirs. The project works to meet the economic and social challenges facing South Africa’s most underserved communities. Clients visiting Cape Town can even see these projects firsthand; just let us know and we’ll arrange it.
Talent is everywhere in Zimbabwe. Opportunity is not. Education Matters bridges that gap by providing highachieving, low-income students with access to the USAP Community School, a residential A-Level program that prepares graduates for the world’s top universities. The goal goes beyond individual success: students are equipped to return their education to their communities, driving positive change across Zimbabwe and the wider continent.
Like us, Ride 4 a Woman is a femaleled organization. Based in Bwindi, it empowers women across 11 villages through skills training, microfinancing, education sponsorships, and access to clean water and solar energy. Founded in 2009 by Evelyne Habasa, who grew up in Bwindi, the organization takes its name from its earliest days, when it rented bicycles to tourists to raise money for local women. Today, over 300 members benefit from its programs.

MEET ANOUK
MEET YVETTE
M E E T VA N E S S A
Anouk was born in Holland but raised in Malawi and Kenya. She left Africa to complete her BA and MSc in the UK before marrying and moving to the US. Africa is where her heart has always remained, and with over 25 years of experience in the Africa travel industry, as a writer, editor, and safari planner – she has managed to return to the continent at least once a year. Her aim is to always make sure that the safaris she plans are authentic, exciting, and hopefully life-changing. She has been involved with African Portfolio in various roles since 2009.
Raised in the beautiful town of Stellenbosch, South Africa, some of Yvette’s fondest memories are of vacations spent far away on her grandfather’s farm in the foothills of the Drakensberg which helped instill her love of Africa’s wilderness that she shares with her clients today. After a decade working in the local wine industry, Yvette moved to the United States and began her career in travel with African Portfolio since 2001. She considers herself the first “guide” on her clients’ journey to Africa, and derives the greatest pleasure from hearing them share their experiences upon their return.
MEET VICTORIA
MEET SUSAN
MEET CHARLENE
Born in Germany to Scottish parents, Victoria was raised in Germany, the US, and Scotland. Her interest in Africa was sparked during her teenage years in Scotland – surrounded by classmates from Botswana, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, she was drawn to their stories of home. Victoria began her tourism career in destination marketing, and later with a luxury tour operator specializing in southern Africa – before she found her home at African Portfolio in early 2018. Victoria sums up her love for Africa with a quote by Ernest Hemingway: “I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.”
Raised in California, Susan traveled the world as a fashion model before settling in New York City, where she completed her BA at Columbia University and launched a photography production business. She joined African Portfolio in 2020 as a Safari Specialist and has since become an invaluable member of the team, designing tailormade safaris for clients while also leading marketing initiatives and special projects. Susan has traveled extensively throughout Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, and Botswana.
Charlene has been our Office Manager and Sales Support Consultant since 2016, and we’re not sure how we ever managed without her. Bringing over 30 years of administrative management experience, she is the calm, capable force behind the scenes, expertly managing everything from insurance queries and flight changes to invoicing and countless details in between. Her meticulous approach and unwavering support ensure our clients and team are always in the safest hands.
Vanessa was born and raised in South Africa and has turned her love of travel and Africa into a 22-year profession. Vanessa has seen and done it all, from chimp and gorilla trekking to following the Great Migration to hiking the dunes of Namibia. She continues to explore all over Eastern and southern Africa and is always on the lookout for new and amazing places to send travelers.
