These are the women who've shaped one of the UK's fastest-growing beauty businesses*. They didn't begin with titles, teams, or a template. They began where most of us do: with everyday priorities – money, family, work – and the determination to build something better.

Today, they've generated hundreds of millions in revenue, inspired thousands, and now sit among the top 1% of earners in the UK – all because they had the courage to say yes to themselves, the products they loved, and the beauty of sharing them. They believed in living life a little bigger. What they didn't know was just how big it would become. This is their story – and in many ways, it's the story of Tropic itself. But most importantly, it could be your story too.

It began with Susie at just 15 years old, selling body scrubs on a market stall and growing it into a multi-million-pound brand. When the time came to take Tropic beyond the markets and into homes nationwide, she had to decide how growth would happen. She was already asking friends to sell alongside her and paying them commission. So when she was introduced to direct selling by our four founding Ambassadors – Gill (who sadly passed away in 2024), Sarah, Tonia, and Carol – it didn't feel like a new direction. It felt like an extension of what Tropic had always been about: people sharing something they genuinely loved and being rewarded for it.

We sat down with Sarah, Tonia, Carol, and some of our highest-achieving Ambassadors to find out where they started, what they've built, and what's possible when you say yes

"In the very early days," recalls Sarah, "none of us had any money. We used to meet in a hotel café at Heathrow and make one cup of tea last all day – I'm surprised we weren't chucked out."

Sarah didn't come to Tropic with a safety net. The direct selling business she'd been part of dissolved almost overnight. "The company went under. They owed me a lot of money. I was left with nothing." There were no savings to fall back on, just her husband's modest police salary.

Then she met Susie. "I told my husband, 'You're going to be upset because I know I was supposed to get a 'proper' job, but this is going to be special' –it was like I could see into the future." Instead, he encouraged her to take the risk. Rebuilding began as steady, compounding growth. Sarah still laughs about her first day: "I rang Susie and said, 'I've got some people together and just made £250 in sales!'" A year later, with the same group, she made £1,000. The trajectory was clear.

But when she talks about success, she doesn't measure it in numbers. She measures it in what life feels like now. Bills get paid. The post doesn't trigger panic. She doesn't check prices. And most of all, she can give back. "I get a buzz when I treat others to their dream gifts. I can do the most wonderful things for my family, and take them on experiences they'll never forget. That means the world." But her proudest moment? "Helping my husband retire. And later buying him an Aston Martin: a car he'd admired his entire life but never imagined he would one day own. That was so special for me." She adds with a smile: "I paid for it in cash." It was more than a financial milestone. It was about sharing success with the person who had made a sacrifice so she could chase something more. "Buying that car was a 'we made it' moment."

same excitement when someone rings me up and says, 'I'd like to join.' The whole day changes –even the toughest day becomes the best day ever." That feeling is why she's still here. "I could retire tomorrow – I just don't want to. I love it too much."

Before Tonia found Tropic, "life was about surviving until the next pay cheque." Achieving a sense of control was her driving force. "It was true autonomy I was looking for – being able to work around what I valued most." Meeting Susie in early 2013 was the catalyst. "She was the most enthusiastic and passionate person. It sealed the deal. I wanted to be at the heart of this business and create something unique. It was beauty with a real purpose." Part of what kept her inspired was how the business felt behind the scenes: "Credibility and trust are so important. The HQ team and Ambassadors truly understand and appreciate each other like no other place I've been a part of!"

Security means something very different when you've lost everything. As Sarah puts it: "It's about knowing no one can take this away from you." And despite how much her life has changed, the thing that lights her up hasn't. "I still get the

In just 13 years, Tonia has built a quarter-of-a-billionpound business – our largest at Tropic. "I don't think you ever get your head around numbers like that," she says. On her daily walk, she used to pass a house she loved – a £2 million property that felt completely out of reach. "I used to think, if only. Never in a million years did I think I'd be living in it." Today, she does. "I still pull into the drive and laugh out loud. I can't believe it's actually mine!" But Tonia is most proud of what her story has made possible for others. "This business has given so much to so many. I've watched women leave their nine-to-fives, stop living by a rota, and finally put their families first – Tropic is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It's afforded me my dream home, but more than that, I've bought my parents a home and given my daughter and grandson a home too. I feel so proud, lucky, and grateful." When Tonia describes what really matters, she names things beyond what we sell.

"The products are a no-brainer. They're so good they sell themselves." Underneath all of it is the engine of her leadership: belief. "I want to give others belief when they don't have it for themselves." And she's realistic about what it takes. "You won't summit that Tropic mountain overnight. But with patience, passion, and persistence, you can do it."

Carol's life had long been shaped by other people's expectations. As a young woman, she dreamed of going to art college. She was creative, expressive, and drawn to individuality. But growing up in the 1970s, that path was restricted. "My parents said, 'Oh no, you need a sensible job.' So I chose nursing. I was very good at it – I'm a people person – but it came with limits. You had a uniform, a structure, and you had to dull down who you were to fit in."

Life moved quickly. Carol had children, and practicality began to dictate everything. "Going back to nursing wouldn't have covered my expenses, and the shift work would have taken me away from my kids. I needed something that didn't require me to leave parts of myself behind." That's how she found direct selling. "I've always found my own way of doing it. Corporate business would never work for me. I have a learning disability – dyscalculia –I can't do numbers. For a long time, I believed certain doors just weren't open to me."

What changed was discovering a way of working that didn't ask her to become someone else. "Being creative and empathetic aren't weaknesses – they're what everything I've built is based on. I wasn't trained by anybody. I learnt what worked, my own way."

With Tropic, Carol has grown a £24 million business by keeping things deliberately simple "My success is in the people. I don't ask anyone to be anything other than themselves. When people say, 'I can't do figures, I can't do accounts,' say, 'Neither can I – that's the beauty of this business. HQ deals with all of that. For years, I compared myself to others. Now I don't care what they're doing. That's real empowerment."

Our top Ambassadors continue to grow, and a select few now sit on our advisory board, helping guide the future of the business itself. Among them are

Marie-Claire, Carla, and Ella. Marie-Claire didn't come to Tropic searching for success – she already had it. By her early forties, she had built an impressive corporate career, rising to Sales Director. "We were doing over a million pounds in sales a month. On paper, I had everything. But at a certain point, I walked away. It was either a midlife crisis or a spiritual breakthrough – depending on how you look at it." She left the corporate world to start her own coaching business, but quickly felt the trade-off. "I was working for myself, by myself. I was trading time for money; I only ever earned if I was coaching

someone, so I couldn't go on holiday without losing income." So when Tropic crossed her path, she joined with intention. "Unlike most people who join for a bit of pocket money, I joined with 100% certainty it was going to be huge." Growth followed. "My initial goal was to match my corporate income: £1 million in sales a month. It took six years. I've done a million a month since. Sometimes two." Mid-conversation, she checks her figures, "I've just hit £125 million in total. It's mind-boggling, really."

What she didn't anticipate was the shift from personal to shared success. "When I joined Tropic,

I suddenly had a family. I didn't realise how lonely I was until I wasn't anymore. I'd had success before, but I had no one to celebrate with." The moment everything clicked wasn't her own achievement – it was watching someone else's. "Seeing one of my team recognised on stage at The Glammies – that was it. I don't have children, but watching her up there, I can only equate it to what a mother must feel. I thought my heart would explode."

When Carla joined Tropic, she had recently become a single mum. "Life felt really small. I didn't think beyond my day-to-day. I never saw a bigger version of what I had. I didn't realise there could be more for me without there being less for my children." Tropic entered her life in the most ordinary way imaginable. "I saw a Facebook post from Tonia saying she had the best job in the world. I was having a bad day at work and remember thinking, I want that. I want the best job in the world. I reached out with no idea that one post would completely change my life."

Carla wasn't someone she thought could thrive in direct selling. "I didn't use skincare. I didn't have much spare time. I was very shy and my network was small. Any expendable money went on my children and what they needed." Her first commission payment is etched in her memory – it was a taste of what was available. "I joined in the last week of March, yet the sales I placed in that time accrued me a little extra bonus. It was £33.17. I was out shopping with my mum when I got the bank notification. Throughout my adult life, mum always bought the coffee and cake, and for the first time ever I could say, 'It's on me.' The figure was modest, but it marked the beginning of something so much bigger. I found it easy because I genuinely believed in it. I didn't have to convince people – the products did that. It's never felt like hard work. I mean, it is work, but it's fun work." 19 months after starting, Carla had reached the highest Ambassador position – the fastest growth in Tropic's history. "That still blows my mind," she says. When asked how it happened so fast, she puts it down to her 'Why'. "It's not a linear process. There were setbacks, but I never wavered from my 'Why': I wanted freedom, security

for my children, and I wanted to say yes to the things that mattered. I was determined I wasn't going to stop." Today, Carla leads a team of around 3,000 people. "I earn more in a month now than I earned in a year before." But the moment that still makes her catch her breath is when she bought her family home. After her relationship ended, she and her children moved back in with her parents. "We were there for a year. When I finally bought our home, the feeling was overwhelming –and I did it on my own." To anyone who doubts themselves, Carla's answer is straightforward: "It's got to be somebody. So why not you?" And to the woman she was before Tropic: "I'd reassure Carla, who didn't know she was anything beyond being a mum, that everything turns out better than she could have ever imagined."

When Ella joined, life for her felt completely unsustainable. "I reached a point where I just couldn't do my job anymore. I was in senior leadership and burnt out. So I left. I remember thinking, what am I going to do now? What I wanted was something for me. I had to start from scratch, so I began doing beauty therapy from home and needed products. Tropic felt like the right fit. I didn't see it as a career at all – I thought it would just be a nice little side income. I never imagined it would become what it is today." Ella recalls her first 'wow' month and thinking, "Hang on, this could actually be something serious. I achieved my first leadership promotion, earned my first Tropic trip abroad, and watched my first team members promote – it was really emotional."

business grew, so did her confidence. "I've found myself again. Now I can provide for my whole family. It's given me my time, my freedom, and a sense of purpose." But the reality that sits with her the most? "I don't have to choose between being a mum and building something big – I get to have both. My proudest achievement by far is building my team and being asked to join Tropic's advisory board. Tropic doesn't have a board of directors – instead, we help lead change and define the future of the business. That responsibility is huge and shows we didn't come here to fit a mould. We came to reshape it." When speaking about impact, she talks about people. "Some of my most special moments are the quiet ones – the voice notes from women saying, 'You've changed my life.' Those stay with you forever."

For Ella, legacy is everything. "I want others to look back and say, because of this business, I believed in myself again. You're allowed to dream, grow, and earn on your own terms. You don't need to be perfect or confident. You just need to start. Believe in yourself before anyone else does. Be consistent, even when it feels quiet, and no one's clapping. And never compare your Chapter One to someone else's Chapter 10." And the line that underpins the entire model: "Focus on helping people first Everything else follows."

Over time, the freedom surprised her most. "I can live the life I want. I love Mondays – I used to hate them – but I don't get 'Sunday scaries' anymore. I get the kids ready for school, I drop them off every day, I go to the gym, and I prioritise my wellbeing. You can't fill from an empty cup –I learnt that from my previous job. I can choose when I start my day and how I spend it." As her

Together, these women haven't just built businesses; they've created community. "We've learned," Sarah says, "leadership isn't about standing above. It's about standing beside." Today, our Ambassadors remain the heart of Tropic. Their contributions make up over 95% of our business. Tropic is shaped by them, strengthened by them, and driven forward by them. This is what beauty, better shared looks like: products that work; real people with real passion; success that grows because it's passed on – the number of seats at this table was never finite. There's enough room for everyone. The question isn't whether this kind of life is possible, it's whether you're ready to say yes to it. Our founding Ambassador, Gill, put it best: "Anything is achievable in life if you commit to making it happen."

Founded in 2006 by the Clifford family in memory of Karen Clifford, who lost her battle to melanoma on New Year’s Eve 2005, their mission is simple: to raise awareness of, prevent, and promote early detection of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer

SECRETS TO A SEAMLESS TAN

STEP 1: GET PREPPED

If you shave, do it 24 hours before tanning to help prevent uneven colour where pores are exposed. Exfoliating the day before is also key for buffing away dead skin and creating a smooth base. For best results, use our Body Smooth Refreshing Polish (p50) or Exfoliating Mitt (p56).

STEP 2: SKIP THE LOTION

Avoid applying body lotion right before tanning, as it can create a barrier and affect how your tan develops. That said, a small amount of Body Love Firming Buttercream (p57) on drier areas like elbows, knees, hands, and feet can help prevent patchiness.

STEP 3: USE YOUR MITT

Always apply product to your Tanning Mitt (p129) first, then sweep over skin in smooth motions for an even finish.

STEP 4: START FROM THE BOTTOM

Begin at your feet and work upwards to avoid transferring product or overloading areas you’ve already covered.

STEP 5: WATCH THE

DRY SPOTS

After tanning, gently wipe the drier areas you moisturised earlier with a damp cloth to blend any excess product and ensure a seamless finish.

STEP 6: STAY EVEN

As colour gradually fades, exfoliate lightly to help it wear off evenly. Once all traces of your tan have gone, wait 24 hours before repeating the process. For upkeep between overnight tanning, use Summer Skin Gradual Tanning Lotion (p78) to maintain your colour.

STEP 7: GLOW FROM HEAD TO TOE

Don’t forget your face. Depending on how dark you want your tan, mix 2–6 drops of Sun Drops Gradual Tanning Facial Serum (p79) into your moisturiser and allow to develop overnight, so you wake up with a face as radiant as your body.

Myth: Makeup Starts With Great Foundation

One of the biggest complaints we hear is: “My makeup just won’t sit right.” It’s easy to blame your foundation, but more often, the real issue is what’s happening underneath.

Great makeup doesn’t start with coverage. It starts with skincare. This sets the tone for what follows: how smoothly products glide on, how natural they look, and how well they wear through the day.

For this look, Lisa began with Rainforest Dew, Skin Feast , and Sun Day to hydrate, brighten, and prime skin. It makes everything else feel effortless: less foundation, better finish.

Myth: It’s Difficult To Find Your Base Shade

With so many shades to choose from, finding your ‘perfect match’ can feel harder than it is. Here’s the simplest way to get it right: match to the jawline (not your hand), and check in natural light. If you’re between shades, go slightly warmer or a touch sheerer –it’s more forgiving. The best base shade is the one nobody notices.

Myth: Blush Belongs On The Apples Of Your Cheeks

It’s standard advice, but it doesn’t suit everyone. If you don’t naturally flush there, or have ageing skin, it can drag the face down.

Place blush slightly higher, blend up and out, and keep it light. For a modern, cohesive look, dust the leftover colour through the crease of the eye 1

Myth: Hooded Eyes Can’t Use Eyeshadow

Hooded eyes are defined by a fold of skin that partially covers the crease when the eyes are open. Eyeshadow still works here, but the problem is that classic placement of eyeshadow can disappear behind this skin.

To make it visible, look straight into the mirror and place a mid-todeep matte just above your natural fold, then blend softly upwards. This adds definition without dragging the eye down. Keep the mobile lid lighter so it draws this area forward.

Myth: Makeup Always Creases On Mature Skin

When makeup settles into lines, it’s usually a product-and-prep issue, not you. Skin moves. Texture and fine lines are normal. All you need are techniques that work with your skin, not against it

Start with hydrating skincare, then apply everything in light layers: use creamy formulas, minimal product, and go easy on the finishing powder.
