The Work of the People
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.
Look up, Love, take your eyes off the ground, show your face! A new day is here. The light is rising over you, shining brightly, moving shadows, touching your face—you are brilliant with it! Darkness may come and go, but the glory of our Creator is a constant companion, a steady light. Many will see you struggle to live, your choice to stand up and walk in the light, and be changed. Have the courage to truly see not only the problems, but the one who remains with you holding the light! We are all coming together. Family, neighbor, and exiles taking our seats at the table. We are learning, we are healing. So, take the gift of this day you are given. Let the light enlighten you, emanate from within you, become you, be you. Power is shifting, and it won’t look like what we think when love reigns. Cities riddled with the wreckage of war and marked by the scars of empire, will exchange the sounds of violence and ruin for the clamor of co-creation and communion. Through the power of God, the oppressed and those stripped of their land are allowed a share in power. We all will weigh in! Life will grow from the most unexpected places. The smallest and least will be welcomed into the center, and their perspective will matter. Not only will violence cease, we won’t want to hurt one another, but cooperate for the goodness of all. The whole nature of creation will change: the sun and moon will not be the light we revolve around, we will turn and grow by the light of God that shows us the illumined way to go. We will be ruled by the power of love! We will be remade and refastened to God and one another. Look up, Love, take your eyes off the ground, show your face! A new day is here. The light is rising over you, shining brightly, moving shadows, touching your face—you are brilliant with it! Everything wrong side up is being upended. The table is extending, rounding. You have a place that is only yours. And everyone, everyone, everyone at this table will have more than enough. So, stand up. Open up. Take it all in, and shine. Amen.

Give praise to the Beloved, O heavenly hosts, Sing of Love's glory and strength. Exalt the glory of Love's Name; Adore the Beloved in holy splendor. The voice of the Beloved is upon the waters; Love's voice echoes over the oceans and seas. The voice of Love is powerful, majestic is the heart of Love. The mercy of the Beloved breaks the bonds of oppression, shatters the chains of injustice. Love invites all to the dance of freedom, to sing the Beloved's song of truth. The voice of Love strikes with fire upon hearts of stone. The voice of Love uproots the thorns of fear, Love uproots fear in every open heart. While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” Then he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They answered, “Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied— altogether there were about twelve of them.

John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. The Renewal of Baptismal Vows

Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil and renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? I do.
Priest: People:
Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Priest: People:
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
