When we look all around, unemployment abounds, and we're filled with distress, fear, and doubt. Then we hear Wisdom say, "We can show a new way." And She leads us to rise and speak out. REFRAIN:
Rise up and shout, for it's time to speak out; let us cry out for justice; let us rise and speak out.
There are millions in need, crushed by others with greed, who abuse and oppress with their clout. Wisdom calls us to go, and Her justice to show, and She leads us with love to speak out. A Prayer in Search of Holy Connection
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.

God of all creation, unbound by space and time, we confess our weariness as we log on once more, in search of a holy connection. Though we would not choose to meet this way, we hold to the promise that you choose always to meet us where we are. When we feel the inadequacy of digital presence, remind us that you, O Lord, are fully present, even here. When we feel the strain of needing to perform who we are, when we are seen but not known, remind us that you, O Lord, know us completely. When we are tempted to trust the illusion of the screen and flatten others in dismissal, remind us that behind each square sits a living, breathing child of God, behind each comment, a person in need of your love. 2
When we fail to engage others well, show us your grace. When others fail to engage us well, may we show your grace. When it feels as though even our prayers are spoken into a void, speak to us your words of life, which never return empty. When we come to the edge of our limits, surprise us again with the fullness of your life-- a life that lives in and flows through each of us, unhindered by blurry pixels and distorted sound. Lord Jesus Christ, image of the invisible God, give us faith to see your substance in the virtual. O Christ, in whom all things hold together, hold us together even in this time of physical separation. By your Spirit, make us one, as your Spirit has always done, that in the endless bluish glow that illumines our days and nights, we might be able still to see your endless light. AMEN.

Now concerning food sacrificed to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. Anyone who claims to know something does not yet have the necessary knowledge; but anyone who loves God is known by him. Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists,” and that “there is no God but one.” Indeed, even though there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as in fact there are many gods and many lords— yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. It is not everyone, however, who has this knowledge. Since some have become so accustomed to idols until now, they still think of the food they eat as food offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. “Food will not bring us close to God.” We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if others see you, who possess knowledge, eating in the temple of an idol, might they not, since their conscience is weak, be encouraged to the point of eating food sacrificed to idols? So by your knowledge those weak believers for whom Christ died are destroyed. But when you thus sin against members of your family, and wound their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of their falling, I will never eat meat, so that I may not cause one of them to fall.

Jesus and his disciples went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! We believe in God who said, “Let there be light,” and there was! With that light, God made the world and all people in whom, and through whom, the Light burns on, strong and true. We believe! 5
We believe in Jesus, the true Light, who went down to darkness to overcome death, and rose again, to unveil our own brightness, in the victory of whose love a path shines home to God’s heart where all will live forever. We believe! We believe in the Spirit, blazing with hope, speaking the truth into every darkness, warming our lives with God’s gifts and call. We believe! We believe in the church, where God’s Light is praised, and from where we are sent to love and serve the world. We believe! We ask today that a gentle breath blow from above on the light that is in us, the light that is among us, and enflame us anew with the courage of love. Enflame us, O God! Amen.

The prophet speaks of the coming light of God which calls all the people of the earth to come together in God’s realm of shalom. Let us confess the ways in which we have rejected God’s vision of wholeness.
Priest and People: God of light and darkness, we have seen the glimmer of your star-light beckoning to us, but we have turned away and followed other paths. We confess that we have not loved you with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us, Holy One. Strengthen our faltering steps and guide us in your holy way of peace.

Lift up your eyes and see the grace of God poured out into our lives. The light of God shines through the darkness. Our hearts rejoice for Christ is in our midst. Amen.

Wednesday 2/3, Faith & Race Film/Discussion Series- Come be part of a 12-week film series curated by The Work of the People focused on the intersectionality of faith and race. Saturday 2/13, 9:00am, Sacred Ground- If you feel the time is right for you to use your time creatively and deepen your understanding of race and faith, we invite you to be a part of our second round of Sacred Ground. It will be offered every other Saturday morning, 9:00-10:30am, February 13 – June 19. Becky Koskinen and Karen Keune will lead us in a 10-part series built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on BIPOC histories as they intersect with European American histories. Space is limited to the first 10 people to sign up- registration closes February 5. Thursday 2/18, 8:45am, TSN Vendor Lunch Assembly– On the third Thursday of every month, teams of 3-4 volunteers safely gather at Trinity to prepare and deliver 30+ lunches to the vendors of our community partner, Toledo Streets Newspaper. Trinity Pen Pals- We are so excited to introduce Trinity Pen Pals! Lindsey Melden, will lead this wonderful new opportunity to keep our youth connected and engaged. Our kids will be paired up and mailed a “starter pack” with their pen pal’s information and a “Get to know you” template! Lucas County: COVID-19 Vaccine- Lucas County is now scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments online for those aged 75+. If you need assistance in scheduling your appointment or finding transportation, you can reach out to: Lynzi or Heather in the Trinity office. Proposed Vestry Slate 2021- The nominating committee recommended a slate of candidates to the Vestry at the 2020 December vestry meeting for approval.
