After telling a parable to the crowd at Jericho, Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, "Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' just say this, 'The Lord needs it.'" So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?" They said, "The Lord needs it." Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!" Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, order your disciples to stop." He answered, "I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out."

God be with you. And also with you. Let us give thanks to God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Jesus stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Savior Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Trinity Pages #LOVE IS THE WAY! Good morning and “welcome home” to Trinity! Whether you are new to our community or have found yourself coming back again and again, we want you to know you are both welcome and wanted here among us. For some, church is as comfortable and familiar as a good pair of jeans, or like coming back to your childhood home (if it is one filled with good memories). For others, church might be like visiting a foreign country where you experience unfamiliar language or customs. And then, sadly, for some church has become equated with feelings of hurt, rejection, or shame. We get all of that and believe that church can be different. We hold in real tension the beauty of our tradition with Jesus’ mandate to welcome all, no exceptions. And we get that if people are brave enough to walk through the doors of a big, Gothic-looking church in downtown Toledo, we’d better be serious about being progressive, inclusive and creative. We love our Episcopal tradition, but we love people from all walks of life even more. It is our hope and prayer that together we will navigate our way through each gathering, worship service, outreach activity, class, meal and social time with humility, grace and laughter. So thank you for being here today; for trusting the yearning that brought you through those ancient doors. May we all find our way into the heart of God’s love as we make room for each and all of us at the Table of love we set together week after week. And may you never forget you are loved,

Trinity Holy Week Schedule Monday, April 15th, 12pm Clergy Renewal of Vows & Blessing of Holy Oils Trinity is hosting the Annual Clergy Renewal of Vows & Blessing of Holy Oils. Chrism and Unction oils available following the service; please bring your own bottles. A Mediterranean lunch will be provided. Wednesday, April 17th, 7pm Speak Truth to Power Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark, a staged reading, is part of Trinity’s Holy Week Observance this year and is presented with support from Actors Collaborative Toledo. There will be a free-will offering to support Episcopal Relief and Development. The play will be followed by a brief question and answer period with members of the cast, the director and The Rev. Dr. Lisa Tucker-Gray; Rector at Trinity Episcopal Church. Thursday, April 18th, 6pm - 8pm Maundy Thursday This evening we gather to share a Mediterranean meal, as we remember how Jesus gathered with those closest to him for a final meal. During this meal he spoke of his love and knelt before each of them to wash their feet and say goodbye; we will do the same. After the meal and foot washing, we remove almost everything in the church’s worship space to prepare for Good Friday. Thursday, April 18th, 9pm - until 5pm Saturday Vigil Reading at the Tomb Following the Maundy Thursday Service, we will begin our Vigil Reading at the Tomb. Individuals sign up to read alone or with company during the hour-long slots. Each reader reads at their own pace and begins where the last person left off. (Due to security concerns we will read at church until 11:00pm both evenings and ask people to read aloud from home between 11:00pm-7:00am.) You can sign-up on our website at https://www.trinitytoledo.org/vigil-reading-tomb. Friday, March 19th, 12pm & 7pm Good Friday Stations of the Cross At both services (12:00noon and 7:00pm) we will move through the worship space stopping at each of the 9 “stations.” At each station we remember different moments along the lonely road to Golgotha as Jesus carried his cross to his crucifixion. Sunday, March 21st, 10am Easter Sunday Christians all over the world celebrate Easter as our primary festival each year. Whether you come to church this day out of habit or faithfulness, invitation or tradition, it is a day when the community gathered embraces the power and possibilities of the words we hear, the songs we sing and the prayers we say together. The metaphor of “new life” has been interpreted by many of the years and through the lenses of various Christian perspectives. Trinity is focused on becoming an ever more expansive, inclusive and creative community honoring our past and embracing new expressions of music and liturgies. Come visit or come home for Easter this year we are expecting you!
