Bob Lee May Day Chair Port Coquitlam May Day Organizing Committee As Chair of the Port Coquitlam May Day Organizing Committee, I have the honor and privilege of sharing my excitement and pride in our week-long festival. This celebration began in 1923, and we will celebrate our ninety sixtieth annual spring festival. We begin with our Opening Ceremony on Friday, May 3 and the festival will continue until Saturday, May 11th. The Opening Ceremony features the traditional May Pole dancing and the official introduction of the 2018 Port Coquitlam Royal Party. Over 180 local school children will be participating in the traditional May Pole dance and modern dances celebrating spring colours and feelings.
the May Day Party in the Square and the Rotary Parade. The day begins with a pancake breakfast in the Outlet at Leigh Square. At 10:30am, there is the preparade favourite; the Vancouver Police Motorcycle squad who will demonstrate their precision skills on the parade route. The official parade begins at 11:00 a.m. There will be many family activities which include: the fun zone, talented local performers, the May Day Marketplace with over 30 craft and artisan vendors and the Emergency Preparedness Fair. There will be food vendors and a beer garden. At the band shell, our entertainment will begin at 12:00 o’clock and our featured performer will be the band, “Dr. Strangelove”. Also, the fourth annual city sponsored “Biz Alley” will feature local business in the Port Coquitlam area. If you are new to our community I encourage you to come and experience the activities. The festivities continue with Art Focus Artists’ Association’s annual Spring Show on May 3, 4 & 5 and the popular Rotary May Day Parade on May 11. Get your spot early to see the parade pre-show featuring the Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team, known for their amazing formation! Come on out on Saturday, May 11 for a day of family fun beginning with a pancake breakfast from 8:00am – 11:00am at The Outlet at Leigh Square and bring your lawn chair and join our community as we line the streets of downtown Port Coquitlam to watch the vibrant parade floats and marching bands. Make sure you stick around for the Party in the Square to enjoy
