WHICH PUTTER LENGTH SHOULD YOU USE? Â Without question, putter length factors into the equation of a consistent reliable stroke. Could changing the length of your putter actually improve your performance on the green? The answer is yes! Let's dive in. If your putter length is too short, your eye line will typically be way too far over the ball. This leads to a reduction in face rotation and can cause the putter to be too upright. Consequently if your putter is too long, you will naturally stand further away from the ball, which in turn will move your eye line inside the ball.
This will create more arc in your stroke, increasing face rotation, and decreasing your chance of having a square clubface at impact. The correct putter length varies for each player depending on factors such as height and stroke type. The most common way to determine a baseline for length is to measure your wrist to the floor. Once this length is established, selecting a putter becomes a little bit easier. The most important aspect in putting is making sure you have the correct setup. If you seem to be struggling on the greens, check to see if your putter is the correct length for you. Altering your eyeline can make a huge difference in your game.
