Quick Fix No video this week, but a picture does the justice. You may notice all these range balls on Hole #10 and wondering why they are there. No we didn't hit them onto the green, we simply placed them in all the unrepaired ball marks. Take a look at that picture again, you could count if you want, but a quick glance will do. There are way too many unrepaired marks on the green. A ball mark left unrepaired, is an unfixable blemish that will remain visible for weeks. Even worse, these ball marks aren’t found just on the periphery of the green. They often occur near the flagstick, where they can potentially affect the putting of every golfer playing that hole. So the next time you are playing, please fix you ball mark along with one other mark so we can keep all greens healthy for the remainder of the season.
Is it time for new Wedges? Take a close look at your grooves
There is no better feeling than hitting a nice crisp wedge shot and getting that drop-and-stop control in your arsenal. However, if you find yourself hitting crisp shots and not getting the spin you want, it may be time to look at your wedge, specifically your grooves. Every wedge has a lifespan and eventually you will need to replace your current wedge. Here are a few tips to take into consideration to see if you need new wedges. First, studies have shown that wedges last around 65-75 rounds before there is a drop in performance. For the average recreational golfer who plays regularly, that comes out to about every 18 to 24 months.
Heres another interesting fact, the area in which you practice in plays a big part in the health of your wedge. If you are a frequent practicer, it is vital to keep your range balls clean. Having a towel near by to assist you in cleaning off the face to make sure water, sand, and grass does not get caught in-beteen the grooves. This will dramatically improve life span of your wedge. One final tip. If you havent heard of the fingernail test, take notes. Simply pick up one of your current wedges and run you nail down the face of your wedge. If your Nail gets caught up in each groove, you wedge and grooves are just fine. If your nail slides over the groove onto the next one, it is time for a upgrade.
