HOW IMPORTANT IS THE SHAFT? Many golf experts believe the shaft is more like the TRANSMISSION of the golf club because it connects the golfer’s hands to the clubhead and allows the golfer to transfer his or her power to the clubhead, and in turn, to the golf ball. To truly understand golf shafts, there are several characteristics we need to discuss. The WEIGHT of the shaft is important to ALL golfers, regardless of handicap, score or ability. As experienced clubmakers know, the weight of the shaft is the NUMBER ONE factor that controls the TOTAL WEIGHT of the club.
The FLEX and the BEND PROFILE of the shaft (the full length stiffness design) can have a measurable effect on clubhead speed and on center hit consistency for golfers who have a very refined and specific sense of FEEL for the bending action of the shaft during the swing. Interestingly, this can happen both for very skilled golfers with a late release as well as some golfers who may have an early to midway release. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: SUPER HYBRID In the market for a hybrid? Many of you all have seen the MAVRIK and TS Lineup, but there is a special weapon known as the "Super Hybrid" from Callaway. Here is what you need to know: One of the developments in the super hybrid is the high-strength Titanium Face Insert. This creates fast ball speeds across the face while promoting optimized spin and ball flight designed to maximize distance. The alltitanium body allows a strong construction while redistributing weight for a precisely placed Center of Gravity with consistent, penetrating launch. Last not but least, there is a new, lighter triaxial carbon fabric that has a tighter weave; the weight it saves versus a steel crown is redistributed within the head to lower the CG for a controlled launch, and to raise MOI for consistent distance on off-center hits.
