Thank you for entering the 2021 Idle Hour Classic scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, June 17-19. The Men’s Stag evening will be held on Thursday night after the completion of the Exacta, a practice round Better Ball competition starting at 1:00 PM. This is a cash game of $100 per team with an optional skins game as well.We want to encourage you and your guest to join us for golf but, regardless, plan on joining the field in the short game area later that evening for food, drink and games of chance. The formal tournament begins Friday morning with our traditional five 9 hole matches; 3 on Friday and 2 matches on Saturday. The Classic Champions will be the team that wins its flight then comes out victorious in the Grand Finale Shootout Saturday afternoon. Added once again this year are the Flight Cash Pool, Pete’s PXG Raffle and Skins (net and gross) both days.

2021 Idle Hour Classic Welcome: It is with great pleasure to welcome you to the playing of the 2021 Idle Hour Classic. The officers, the Golf Committee and staff truly hope you enjoy the camaraderie and competition of this weekend. It is our goal to continue the great tradition of this tournament. If we can assist you in any way, please don’t hesitate to ask anyone from our professional staff. We wish the best of luck and hope you enjoy your three days playing The Classic. Format: The field is comprised of 9 flights. Each flight is based on the total USGA handicap index of the member and guest. Flights are determined by teams with equal or close to equal total indices. Each team will play 5 nine-hole matches within its flight. Three rounds will be played on Friday and the remaining two on Saturday. This is a point tournament based on the team’s net better ball match against their opponent’s net better ball.
Scoring for each 9-hole match: 2 points for winning a hole 1 point for tying a hole 2 points for winning a match 1 point for tying a match 0 points for losing a hole or match 12 points for a forfeited match All matches must play a complete 9 holes in order that all points can be awarded. Scorecards need to be signed by the marker and attested by the player and returned to the scoring area. Once the scorecard is returned to the scoring area it is deemed to be official. Live Scoring is not official. We need the scorecard at the tent! Teeing Ground: The Classic field will play from the Yellow Pine Log unless players are 55 years of age and older in which case, these senior players may play from the White Pine Log. It is also the player’s responsibility to inform the head professional of any discrepancy with his handicap. Failure to do so could lead to penalty or possible disqualification.
Shoot-Out and Overall Winner: The team with the most points in each flight after 45 holes is the flight winner. All ties within the flights will be determined by matching Saturday’s scorecard starting on hole #1. Most points wins. The 8 flight winners will participate in a sudden death shoot-out to determine this year’s champions. These 8 teams will all play #1 together in a better ball format at full handicap. The two low teams after this first hole will then play up 18 for the championship. If there is a tie in determining the two low teams, then a chip off will determine the outcome of the hole. Both team members chip. The team that chips the closest to the hole determines the winner and will continue on to #18. If there is a tie between the final two teams on hole #18, then a chip off will determine the 2021 Classic Champions.
Rules of Play: USGA governs all play. The number 1 violation is usually too many clubs in your bag. Please check to make sure you do not have more than 14 clubs. Embedded Ball through the green. Through the green means all areas of the golf course except bunkers and other hazards. Water hazards are identified by yellow stakes. Lateral hazards are identified by red stakes. Proceed under rule 26 of the 2020 Rules of Golf. Out of Bounds defined by white stakes. The cart staging area is out of bounds. Beyond the interior curb of the driveway on holes 12 and 13 is out of bounds. The tennis courts are out of bounds as well as the turf grass maintenance facility is out of bounds. If in doubt of a rule, play a second ball and the committee will determine the outcome at completion of the match or if needed, call the pro shop and one of the professional staff will come out to help you. Speed of Play Reminder:
Since this is a better ball match play event, if one of the partners is struggling and surely out of the hole, please have him pick up in order to help keep play moving.This is a large field of 24 foursomes so play will be a little slow. If all teams keep this in mind, play should be able to keep moving at an acceptable pace. If our Head Golf Professional is hovering around your group while you’re playing take this a message that your group is behind pace. A potential penalty may be levied.
Severe Weather Conditions: In the event of severe weather during play, the Pro Shop will sound the “Severe Weather Warning Siren”. Players must mark the position of his ball and seek shelter immediately. When the severe weather has left the area, the Pro Shop will announce the resumption of play.
