IT’S GOOD TO TALK
Separating? Have you considered Mediation?
F
amily Mediation is an alternative way of resolving a family law disputes, whether that be a divorce or separation, or making arrangements for children. ‘Often people come to see us when they are at their most vulnerable, explained Lynne Mulcahy, family law partner at Balfour + Manson LLP. ‘It’s natural to have concerns about how to manage communication with their former partner, costs and how long things might take to work out. We can’t wave a magic wand, but we can offer options, such as Family Mediation, that might offer a potential pathway to an easier, cheaper resolution.” Kirsten Knight, family law partner, added, ‘For many clients, at least some issues can be resolved by direct discussions. If conversations always end up in an argument or clients don’t want to communicate directly, Family Mediators can help both
parties to air their concerns and to try and allow them to reach solutions that they feel comfortable with.’ Mediation doesn’t take away the pain of a separation but it puts the control firmly in the hands of the parties, who with the help of the mediator, can look work out what is best for them and their family. While separating couples can’t instruct the same solicitor to act for them both, they can appoint the same family law mediator. Mediators are impartial and never steer clients in any particular direction, so both parties still engage with their own family law solicitors who will provide appropriate legal advice. Both Lynne and Kirsten are accredited family law mediators and can be instructed either as solicitors for a person who has a family law dispute or as mediators for a couple who wish to use family mediation.

FROM THE
EDITOR Hello again, As spring slides into summer, we’re hoping for a couple of months of gloriously warm days where we look effortlessly fabulous and balmy evenings catching up with friends over a bottle of wine and some simply prepared dishes that taste incredible. It’s a world where our hair always looks good, where everything in our wardrobe actually fits and suits us, where our children aren’t welded to their mobiles, and where we aren’t trying to juggle work, family, social obligations and a hundred other things. It’s a world that doesn’t really exist. Instead, why don’t we cast the pressure of creating the perfect lifestyle aside and just choose a couple of things to focus on as the nights get lighter and the temperatures drag themselves out of single figures? Maybe put some time aside each week to do something you really want to do as a household or just for yourself? It might be an hour once a week where everyone just sits and reads, it might be a date night, spending an extra 15 minutes deep conditioning your hair, heading out for a walk or run, revisiting some old haunts or trying somewhere new. Living in the city and shire means there are so many options. Maybe we should stop trying to have it all and make conscious choices of what we actually want to do instead. Naturally, we’re here to help you discover the life you want to lead. Love, Everyone at Trend x

f you fancy a workout that builds core strength and reshapes your body without restoring to living at the gym six days a week, check out Reformer Pilates… Reformer Pilates harnesses some engineering genius to create a hugely efficient but workout that can be thought of as turbo-charged resistance training designed to lengthen, strengthen, and support your body in all the right ways. Reformer Pilates is a dynamic form of exercise performed on a spring-loaded machine called the Reformer. Unlike mat-based Pilates, which uses body weight for resistance, the Reformer uses adjustable springs, a moving carriage, straps, and pulleys to provide a full-body workout with controlled resistance. This allows for precise, flowing movements that target specific muscle groups while supporting proper alignment and posture. The resistance can be adjusted to suit all fitness levels, making it ideal for everything from gentle rehabilitation to challenging strength training. The result? Improved core strength, better flexibility, enhanced balance, and a noticeably leaner, more toned body - all without the joint strain of high-impact workouts. Scientific studies have shown that Reformer Pilates significantly improves core strength, balance, flexibility, and muscle tone. It’s also a powerful tool for injury recovery and prevention, which explains why it’s long been a secret weapon for celebrities, dancers and athletes.
The benefits of Reformer Pilates go well beyond the physical. The mindful pace and focused breathing involved help calm a busy mind, offering something many of us need - an hour to focus, breathe, and be present. Regular practitioners often report reduced stress, improved sleep, and that elusive sense of being centred within your body again. The House Reformer is leading the way in this boutique wellness wave in Aberdeen, offering a beautiful space for small-group sessions in an atmosphere that’s more sanctuary than sweatbox. Their newly opened studio expands the offering to include Barre and Sculpt classes, keeping the same meticulous attention to detail and expert-led instruction. Investing in our own health and wellbeing sometimes makes us feel a little guilty, but it’s an investment that pays off in the short term and offers life-long benefits. Who doesn’t want improved strength, confidence, and mental clarity? The best part is that Reformer Pilates truly is for everyone. You don’t need to be fit to start; you just need to start. As one instructor puts it, ‘Come as you are - leave feeling like a ballerina who can deadlift.’ Graceful, empowering, and quietly addictive, Reformer Pilates might just be the elegant solution your body - and mind has been waiting for.

Time for a change? Celebrity stylist Andrew Barton, Bloom’s Group Brand Lead, shares his thoughts on when it’s time for a new look…
BEAUTY | 11
I
t’s important to change up your hair style every few years to keep it in fashion and avoid the risk of looking like you are stuck in a time warp. The change needn’t be radical, but whether it’s through the way the hair styled or shaped change is good to keep a hairstyle current. A new style can be inspired by anything from a new job, a new life stage, relationship or just a whim. At Bloom, we always provide a consultation and our honest advice about what will work best.
through, this may be every few weeks. The darker the tint the more obvious the white root growth. It is often an option to go a little lighter, often adding lighter highlights or to colour hair to a much lighter shade all over ensuring the roots are less obvious as they grow through. The other key thing to remember is condition, taking care of coloured hair is super important to keep it looking and feeling great. Grey hair does have a different texture too.
Before making a change, you need to think about your lifestyle, practicality and maintenance, cost, face shape and skin tone. Your style and colour should reflect your personality and be part of your identity, so for some this may mean a subtle design to others something more vibrant and edgy.
Lots of our clients have been asking about how they stay grey and stay stunning! We have recently introduced a ‘stay grey’ section in our new colour menu. The services start when a client wants to blend away the greys with a gloss or semipermanent application of colour, then move to partial permanent techniques and lightening and also include a complete transition to grey, removing the old colour and creating a real wow moment! The key thing with the ‘stay grey’ section of our menu is that it helps our clients embrace more of their natural grey hair with a bang on trend colour palette. This is truly couture colour, so consult with our colour specialists to find the right transitional journey for you. We can discuss your options, which allows you to let your grey hair grow through, without the pain of the demarcation lines from when you last had your colour applied or the pain of growing out.
It’s a myth that a woman should cut her hair short as she matures. In fact, you can wear your long at any age as long as the hair has a good shape, great colour and is healthy and shiny. As we age, the density of our hair changes and it can have less vitality and becomes harder to style, so many women go for a shorter style for practical reasons. When it comes to colour, there is no one size fits all approach. Colour should be personal to you and your needs. The challenge for brunettes who tint their hair is the regularity of the maintenance of the white hair roots growing

BEHIND THE BUSINESS: Meet Sophie Marie, of Sophie’s Pawtique and Spa
I
’ve always had a huge love for dogs. In school when asked what I wanted to be when I was older I said I wanted to open a dog spa, and I was told to be serious... that's when I made my mind up. It meant giving up my job, home and everything I knew to begin my City & Guilds dog pampering course. I hadn’t anticipated the amount of physical & emotional hard work involved, but I found a love & purpose. A few months later and I was standing in this rundown shop with a set of keys and a vision. I cannot thank my family enough for helping me turn what felt like nothing into something. My idea was to create this as the upmost love and care your dog could get with spa treatments suited to every dog’s needs from de-shedding, detoxing, sensitive skin, dull coats and even soothing elderly muscles and a wee furry facial and pawdicure because every
dog deserves a pamper and to feel loved. I provide a wide range of pampering services for all different breeds and sizes. Which means your pooch will be leaving their pamper feeling, looking and smelling their absolute best. Our website filled with detailed information on each pamper type and available treatment options your pooch can receive. It’s been six months since we opened and I can’t express enough my gratitude to all our wonderful customers who have walked through the door… and their humans. This is only the beginning. I can’t wait for you all to come on this journey with me. Thank you for making my job truly the best in the world. 160 Union Grove, Aberdeen AB10 6SR 01224 383721 info@sophiespawtique.com Sophiespawtique.com

What Parents Need to Know
About School Placement Appeals By Isabelle Douglas, Partner at Aberdein Considine
D
isputes between parents and councils over school placements could become more common following the recent imposition of VAT on independent school fees.
councils have a duty to adhere to this request.
would mean that the school must take on another teacher
But councils can refuse a request, for instance if it would involve unreasonable public expenditure where the school in question is already full.
Private school fees have risen substantially since 20% VAT was introduced in January, causing many parents to move their children to Scotland’s state schools [1].
What can parents do? You have 28 days to appeal a refusal to a dedicated committee. After that, you can take it to the Sheriff Court.
With more applications for the most sought-after schools,
A parent might have a good case if there aren’t sufficient

grounds for refusal in the first place, or if the child’s circumstances are exceptional – for example, if they have a skill in a specialist subject and it’s only offered by one school in the area or if they have a specific medical need which can be best addressed by the specific school.
What are the rules? Local authorities must accommodate school placement requests wherever possible. Parents have a right to specify where they wish their child to be educated, and
if it is full and the placement
or alter their accommodation or facilities to make space for the pupil. Of course, every family’s circumstances will be different, so parents considering making an appeal should seek advice as early as possible. Costs can be awarded to parents if the appeal is successful, but that’s not a guarantee. Ultimately, parents are going to do what they believe is best for their children, and if there is a chance of getting a place in their preferred school, many will pursue that as far as they can. The hotel offers much more than luxury and tranquillity, though, it also delivers a standout dining experience, thanks to Culinary Director David Butters.
‘I was born in Edinburgh, but when I was young, my parents moved to a smallholding near Peebles. At first I found it strange and looking back,i was a huge culture shock, but I grew to love the beauty and calm of the landscape. I’d say that being immersed in the natural cycles of the year and eating the food my parents
produced on their land really inspired my love of food and is still a major influence on my cooking style today.
development, and Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social is my benchmark for style and sophistication.
‘My culinary career began almost by accident. At school we had work placement weeks and I found myself at Stobo Castle, the Borders Health Spa Hotel. I loved it, so my work placement turned into an evening job, then blossomed into a full-time calling. I really thrived on the buzz of the kitchen. Now, I get a lot of satisfaction from passing those skills. I find it incredibly rewarding to see others grow.
‘My own training was in the classical French style and I’d say my cooking style combines the classic with Mediterranean influences, adding modern twists to timeless dishes. At this time of year, so many top quality local produce is coming into season and featuring on our menus. We have a trio of Aberdeenshire lamb with pea purée, Chantenay carrots, and thyme jus that’s just flying out the door just now.
‘Most chefs experience a number of kitchens as their careers progress. My own career has encompassed everything from working on superyachts in Barcelona to Tuscan kitchens and large-scale catering operations feeding over a thousand guests. The late Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles was my mentor and an enduring influence. I’d say Andrew Baird at Jersey’s Longueville Manor shaped my approach to leadership and skill
When he’s not in the kitchen, David recharges with his two young sons and two dogs. He enjoys family cooking, hill walking, and swimming, though is sometimes less thrilled by his role as Dad Taxi. ‘For me, the biggest challenge remains finding balance. It’s hard missing time with my family because someone else’s special event often becomes my top priority.’

Daddy dearest From beer wagons to cream puffs, how Father’s Day is celebrated round the world…
Father’s Day falls on Sunday 15th of June, and the shops will be filled with novelty mug and sock sets and pyjamas emblazoned with ‘Best Dad Ever’ slogans. We thought we’d check and see how fathers round the world are celebrated. We think a lot of dads across the city and shire would be happy to adopt a German approach to Father’s Day. Männertag isn’t just for dads, though. It’s where men of all ages mark the occasion by hauling wagons full of beer through the countryside. It combines a healthy hike with a major hangover the next day.

Back in the 1950’s, a French lighter company called Flaminaire cornered the Father’s Day gift market and a new lighter became the gift of choice. Today, French dads are more likely to receive a book or a lovingly scribbled drawing than a cigarette accessory. Japanese fathers enjoy thoughtful gifts ranging from sake to sports gear, while in Costa Rica, the day is celebrated with homemade gifts, family dances, and generous helpings of gallo pinto, a dish of rice and beans. Over in Italy, Father’s Day coincides with St. Joseph’s Day on 19 March. St. Joseph’s Day falls during
Lent, so the Italian tradition involves plying Dads with vast piles of zeppole di San Giuseppi, light cream filled pastry puffs. Food seems to be the default gift for Dads in many places. In Sweden, Father’s Day was moved to November to fill the retail lull before the festive shopping season gets into full swing. Swedish dads get spoilt with their favourite cake.
The green marzipan covered Prinsesstårta, the gooey, sludgy chocolate cake, Kladdkaka, or Äppelkaka which is pretty easy to translate and comes with ice cream or vanilla sauce. So, if you’re looking for a gift idea for your dad, it looks like you won’t go far wrong with beer, cake and a card.

Kirsty MacLean celebrates native species…

cotland; such a beautiful and complex country where climate variation from region to region is considerable and weather conditions have such a huge bearing on what can be grown. The mountainous areas of Scotland are colder, wetter and windier than the low-lying areas and inland areas tend to be colder than coastal areas. Even two gardens on the same street, just metres apart, will experience complexities that make growing conditions significantly different but in the main, coldness,
wind exposure and drainage are the three main factors that are likely to affect plant hardiness. Part of the solution to the success of growing is undoubtedly down to choosing native species. Scotland’s unique geography, evolution and varied weather conditions have produced eco systems with more diverse and resilient plants than our neighbours in England. Most of our native tree and shrub species colonised Scotland after the last Ice Age (which ended roughly

9,000 years ago), with seeds dispersed by wind, water, and animals. Equally important is the provenance of the seed. Local seed and plant sources have adapted to the specific soil, climate, and pest conditions of a particular area over time so it’s not necessarily just about the species you choose. Sometimes a plant grown in the relatively mild climate of southern England may not adapt well to the shock of the temperatures and climate of North East Scotland. Trees, shrubs and plants from a known local provenance are more likely to survive and thrive, contributing to a healthier and more resilient ecosystem and reducing the risk of introducing pests, diseases or invasive species that may not be adapted to the area. Maintaining local genetic diversity is important for long-term adaptation to changing environmental conditions and all of this is vital to supporting local
wildlife and maintaining healthy ecosystems. However, whilst all of this is true and good for biodiversity, so is using a healthy smattering of nonnative species providing they are non-invasive, and you don’t introduce them into the wild. There are some wonderful additions to the garden that enhance biodiversity and have been here so long that they have proven their worth, and in particular, winter or early flowering trees, shrubs and plants that provide muchneeded early food for insects, bees and wildlife such as single flower Hellebores, Goat Willow, Pieris Japonica, Winter flowering Honeysuckle (Lonicera x purpusii) and Mahonias to name but a few! So which trees, plants and wildflowers are considered ‘native’ and what suits the North of Scotland? You might be surprised to learn that it’s a very long list, but here are some better-known
examples: Trees Scots Pine, Birch (downy and silver) Alder, Oak Hazel, Willow, Rowan, Aspen, Wych elm, Hawthorn, Holly, Juniper, Wild Cherry and Elder. Shrubs Blackthorn, Broom, Buckthorn, Honeysuckle, Wild Rose, Ivy, Berberis, Pyracantha and Vetch. Other plants Purple Loosestrife, Marsh Marigold, Lavender, Marjoram, Tobacco plants, Scabious, Night-scented stocks and Yellow Flag Iris. Wildflowers Cowslip, Ox-eye Daisy, Meadow cranesbill, Yellow Rattle, Meadow buttercup, Wallflower, Red campion, Wild Privet, Dog Rose & Holly Scottish Blue bell, Heather (Calluna vulgaris) Bog Myrtle, Scottish Primrose and Scottish Thistle.
Tweed, indeed Discover the colourful world of Kinaldie Creations’ Lee Ritchie…
There’s something quietly magical about Harris Tweed. Perhaps it’s the way the colours shift with the light, echoing the rugged beauty of the Outer Hebrides. Or maybe it’s the sense of heritage, handwoven into every thread. For Lee Ritchie, it was love at first stitch. As the creative mind behind Kinaldie Creations, Lee has
turned this iconic fabric into charming, handcrafted gifts that brighten homes and hearts alike. From vibrant cushions and personalised purses to keepsake cards and bespoke bags, her work is immaculate, endearing and inspirational. ‘I spent 20 years in Human Resources in the oil and gas industry,’ Lee explained, ‘but
I always dreamed of running my own small business. My ambition started to take shape in 2018 when I stepped away from my HR career to spend more time with my young family. I borrowed my Mum’s sewing machine and started out with Harris Tweed lampshades. I opened a shop on Etsy. I still remember the excitement of that first sale! I was hooked from then

onwards and was thrilled to receive my own sewing machine for Christmas.’ The pandemic provided Lee with the chance to focus more on her creative work. She branched out adding cushions, purses, bags and cards to the Kinaldie range, each piece proudly featuring the distinctive Harris Tweed label and a whole lot of love. Lee’s love of sewing runs in the family. Her mum was a bridalwear dressmaker, and although she taught Lee the basics, Lee credits her own determination for mastering the craft. ‘I’m self-taught, and a total perfectionist. If a stitch is out of place, I’ll unpick and redo it—no compromises!’ Today, Kinaldie Creations is a full-time venture. Lee sources her tweed directly from the Isle of Harris and supports independent weavers, giving her access to unique colours and patterns you won’t find on the high street. She gravitates towards bright, joyful hues, especially
fabrics with pinks and purples. Her designs are often inspired by her walks around the forests and gardens of Aberdeenshire. Her personalised cards are a particular hit, and customers return time and again for her thoughtful, made-to-order gifts. ‘I love knowing my work becomes part of someone’s special moment,” she says. You can find Kinaldie Creations online, at kinaldiecreations.co.uk or on Etsy at etsy.com/shop/KinaldieCreations My greetings cards and smaller gifts are stocked at Heartfelt Aromas in Rosemount and at Sonya Angus the Unique Boutique in Cults. I also exhibit at local craft fairs throughout the year, including the Craft & Flea fairs at the Music Hall and Trend’s own Xmas Fayre at the Marcliffe on November 9th. The great outdoors
BBQ season is almost upon us, so now’s the time to invest in some new cooking kit and garden furniture to make the most of our short alfresco dining season. Much as we’d like to pretend that gazebos, marquees and parasols are just there to keep the sweltering sun from our beautifully sun-kissed skin, more often than not, their true purpose is to keep the wind and rain off the burgers and baked potatoes. Making sure you have enough cover for all your guests to shelter under, relaxing seating and a few cosy throws so people can snuggle up as the sun goes down makes good sense. The cornerstone of any outdoor dining haven is, of course, your cooking setup. From sleek outdoor kitchens that rival indoor counterparts to the classic barbecue grill, there’s something for every garden chef. Gas BBQs offer convenient control, while charcoal grills bring that quintessential smoky flavour. For those eager to take their culinary exploits up a notch, smokers are a game-changer, perfect for slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth brisket.

If you’re cooking for a crowd, keep a separate grill for vegans and vegetarians and give some thought to your offerings and condiments. An array of colourful salads can look great on the table, but may tricky to eat standing up. For those going all out, pizza ovens are a useful addition. A cold finger food buffet or grazing table can work well, especially when you’re waiting for your bangers to go brown but avoid recipes that can’t stand a few hours in the heat or a spot of rain. Now’s not the time to produce a meringue tower that will melt into a sugary slush. A fire pit not only keeps guests cosy but acts as a focal point for evening conversations but it’s also a great place for kids to cook sausages on sticks, bake potatoes or toast some marshmallows. Yum!

Highland fling This year, why not consider a Scottish road trip adventure by Land Rover?
W
e Scots are a curious bunch. We’ll pack enough clothes for a month and a half into a suitcase we can barely handle then queue at an ungodly hour for a flight to anywhere with a beach, but remarkably few of us have really explored our own country. This year, you could put that right by climbing aboard a classic Land Rover Defender and setting off on a road trip adventure. The Defender has long been the off-roader of choice for explorers and anyone who thinks a map is a suggestion, not a plan. Now, a pair of lovingly kitted-out
Defenders is offering everything you need to channel your inner Vasco Da Gama. Each Defender comes with a top-of-the-range RoofNest rooftop tent which takes just minutes to pop up and comes equipped with a comfy memory foam
mattress, duvets, and pillows. It’s a far cry from wrestling with sleeping bags and apologising to your spine in the morning. Better yet, your rooftop accommodation should mean you’re above the midges’ normal flight path. Each tent sleeps two adults comfortably — or two and a toddler if your family adventures include a small, wriggly human. You can just take an extra tent along if older kids or adults are coming too. The 270° awning provides shelter from the vagaries of the Scottish Summer, even providing shade in the event of blazing sunshine. Admittedly, there’s no room service or swim up cocktail bar, but
your road trip isn’t exactly about roughing it. Each Defender comes fully equipped with a table and chairs, full cooking equipment, and the all-important bottle opener. There’s even a shovel for, um, waste disposal. If that seems a bit too Bear Grylls, you could just drive to the nearest four star hotel, order dinner and use their loos and leisure facilities, or compromise as the Defenders are just as happy parked at a campsite. There’s no mileage cap, and no upper rental limit either. Fancy a fortnight exploring the NC500? Go for it. How about island hopping through the Hebrides, or exploring the barren northern landscapes of Caithness and Sutherland, spotting Golden Eagles and wondering why grouse seem quite so keen to throw themselves at passing motorists. Maybe a weekend of Munro-bagging in the Cairngorms or fly fishing in Borders rivers? You could throw
your clubs in the back and spend a week playing some of Scotland’s most challenging courses from Gullane to Royal Dornoch or tackle Shishkin, the 12 hole course on Arran. How about visiting Applecross and Plockton or just driving around pretending you’re in a BBC nature documentary? No judgment here. All you need are clothes, food, and a rough sense of direction if satnav seems too safe. Favourite routes include the Isle of Skye, the majestic West Coast and the Trossachs. In peak season, campsites can fill up fast, especially around Loch Lomond and on smaller islands, where wild camping isn’t permitted. Luckily, planning your adventure can be fun too. So if you’ve ever dreamed of sleeping under the stars, but with good bedding, your own cutlery, and a sense of rugged adventure, this might just be your next great escape. It’s certainly going to give you more interesting tales to talk about when you get back to the office. You can find out more at grassrootsrentals.co.uk

Set sail for the Tall Ships in Aberdeen
HERITAGE | 57
H
ead for the harbour this July where the Port of Aberdeen will be playing host to the largest fleet ever to take part in the Tall Ships Races. The sailing ships made a previous visit to the city and the five day event is expected to draw up to 400,000 visitors. Most of the events are free and there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy. There are four classes of ship taking part, from yachts to multi-masted ships often used as training vessels. Belem, a French ship, is the oldest in the race, being built in 1896. Having begun life as a cargo ship transporting sugar from the West Indies as well as cocoa and coffee from Brazil and French Guiana to Nantes in France. Belem was also a private yacht for Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster and was also owned by Sir Arthur Guinness, of brewery fame. The newest vessel, Peru’s BAP Union was built in 2015 as the first sail training ship of the Peruvian Navy. It acts as a training vessel for officers and naval cadets and as a sailing ambassador, promoting Peru in its various voyages around the world. There are tall ships from Norway, Uruguay, Mexico, Poland, the
Netherlands, Denmark and Oman. Smaller ships of interest include Gordonstoun School’s Ocean Spirit of Moray, a ketch used to teach pupils seamanship in the Moray Firth and seas off Northern Scotland. All pupils spend some time training in seamanship locally from Hopeman on the Moray Firth in preparation for cruising off the west coast of Scotland in Ocean Spirit. The ships will sail from Dunkirk, arriving in Aberdeen on Friday 18th July. The quayside will be closed that afternoon to allow safe berthing. The party kicks off on Friday night with the first of the quayside concerts starting at 6.30pm. Peterson Seabase will be transformed into a 7000 capacity outdoor venue with bars and food stalls. Deacon Blue headline on Friday. A full orchestra plays a classic dance tracks on Saturday and Kaiser Chiefs appear on Monday night. Sunday sees a more local flavour with Tide Lines and Calum Bowie’s free concert. There will be a chance to explore some of the ships and find out about life on board. You can also look forward to around 60 trade and charity stalls, street food markets and bars, lots of free entertainment and daytime concerts, and STEM activities in the Discovery Zone. There will even be a funfair on King Street from West North Street to Castle Street.
It’s definitely one of those events where the bus is your best option, because parking will be at a premium. Sunday brings a Crew Parade down Union Terrace, Rosemount Viaduct, Broad Street and Regent’s Quay from 4pm and a prize giving ceremony at 5pm. The ships are scheduled to leave Aberdeen on their next race to Kristiansand in Norway over Tuesday 22nd , with a parade of sail and passage to the race starting point. was born in Elgin and raised all over the place, thanks to both my parents serving in the RAF. Eventually, I moved to Aberdeen to study, and I’ve now called the North-east home for over a decade. It holds a very special place in my heart. During my time at university, I was offered a job at Northsound—where my journey in broadcasting truly began. Aberdeen is also where I met my wonderful partner, and together we have a beautiful two-year-old daughter, Heidi. This city is home in every sense of the word. My love for radio started early. I was that child—mimicking jingles, hosting imaginary
shows, and completely obsessed with music. I studied Radio at Fife College and went on to study Media at Robert Gordon University, convincing myself that hours spent listening to the radio absolutely counted as “research.” I’m probably best known for waking people up as one half of Jeff and Lauren in the Morning on Northsound. It was a role filled with 5am starts, endless laughs, and the absolute privilege of being part of people’s daily lives. I miss the team—and our listeners—so much. On a personal level, I’m all about keeping things fun, travelling when we can, and making beautiful memories with my family and friends. laurenelizabethmitchell.com
