FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PRESIDENT

Anthony J. Delmonte, Jr. We received the results of the Club Benchmarking survey and executive summary. By the time you read this, you should have received a copy of the executive summary. If you have not, please reach out to the office. Overall satisfaction with the club is high with a 97.6% rating. The mean satisfaction score is 6.21 out of 7 which is above the industry benchmark of 5.79. I am extremely pleased with these results which reflects the hard work and dedication of Tina and the staff. The survey also measured the relative importance and satisfaction of elements of the club. This analysis will guide management on areas on which to focus. As you can imagine, the elements rated the most important were member dining, club events/parties, and golf course and golf operations. There were differing degrees of satisfaction with each of these so management can direct appropriate resources where needed. The pool and youth programming were also rated moderately important by members. As for the golf course, the survey is rather clear that most members understand the need to replace the irrigation system. However, it was also clear that this must be done as economically as possible by maintaining the value proposition offered by the club. The board takes this message seriously and will proffer a plan to meet these needs. Overall, members are highly satisfied with the golf course with only a few exceptions. The rough, cart paths, and fence/berm all received the highest percentage member dissatisfaction. We believe new irrigation will address the rough, the other two areas will take a little more time and thought to address. The club also received a higher-than-average net promoter score. I am also pleased with this result which certainly confirms what I always have thought, members are generally satisfied and willing to recommend the club to others. Secondly, the survey provided us with areas on which to focus on in the coming years as we discuss and plan future projects. The comments section from the survey will be shared with all department heads so they can develop action plans around areas of focus. Moving on from the survey, the other item the board has been earnestly addressing is the search for our next General Manager. The search committee, led by Pat Clabeaux, has done an amazing job. In all candor, at first, we were a little concerned. We had not received many resumes and of the ones we did receive, none met our qualifications. In early February, the pace of resumes picked up and ultimately, we received thirty in total. The search committee met and chose nine candidates to prescreen. Pat Clabeaux and Eric Balsom did a fantastic job pre-screening these candidates in such a short period of time. We are down to four finalists who met with the search committee. The process is moving quickly, and we are confident that we will meet our timeline. As we head into March and the pending Spring, I am excited for the year ahead. Membership is strong (we just reached our cap of 335 golf members), the survey provided us with areas of focus to move forward, and we have solid momentum to propel us into the future. I look forward to the next part of our journey together.

As I write this article, it’s 54 degrees outside and I don’t know about you, but I want to take a big hose to everything especially the garage, it’s a nice teaser and a sure sign of spring! Speaking of spring, as you can see by this newsletter, we have been very busy planning for the upcoming season. Our social events have been finalized (see Pg. 8) which I think you will agree are extensive. There is something planned for everyone – kids, adults and then events to bring everyone together, yes that is what makes TVCC unique! Our kids’ summer programs are also completed. The summer master calendar will be emailed next week which will include all the programs starting and ending dates. Registration forms will be emailed early April! We are in the process of updating our website and app with all this information. Speaking of our app – if you have not downloaded this fantastic communication tool, please contact the club office for instructions. Features include dining and event reservations, simulator reservations, all of our ala carte menus, and the very convenient “grab n’ go” which allows you to place orders at the halfway house while at the pool or on the golf course! As mentioned in Mr. Delmonte’s article, we have received the results of our member survey. The management team will be reviewing your comments and focusing on the areas that are in need of improvement. Brandon and Joe are currently updating our training and service manuals and Chef Dan is working on speeding up the timing of food coming out of the kitchen. We are still experiencing staffing issues in the kitchen and are very hopeful that this will be resolved in the next few weeks. We appreciate your patience and understanding! As a reminder, two very important policies which are easily violated. Our dress code and cell phone policies: •

Denim is acceptable and must be in excellent condition, dark in color, white or black denim is also acceptable. Denim should also not include holes or rips, fading or stonewash look, and frayed material.

For men, denim must be paired with any tucked-in and collared shirt, sport coat or sweater. The Tommy Bahama or Un-tuckit Shirts will be permitted.

Unacceptable: Yoga pants, leggings, athletic attire, t-shirts, denim shorts, skirts, and dresses.

Parents: Please remember that this policy also includes children!

While dining in the Clubhouse, please keep your cell phones on vibrate, if you need to make or receive phone calls, please go to the Lobby or Locker Rooms.

Acceptable Denim

Catering and Events The food and beverage team have been very busy updating our catering and events brochure. If you are planning a party, please contact our very qualified and experienced catering specialist DeAnn Setter. DeAnn is an expert at assisting you with all of your planning needs. She can be contacted by calling the Club Office or emailing catering@ transitvalley.com. Finally, we were able to complete a lot of open items during our 10-day shutdown in January. The downstairs offices were painted, and new carpeting was installed. The upstairs meeting room received a fresh coat of paint, new carpeting will be installed in a few weeks, and we installed laminate flooring on the landing area and in the upstairs restroom. We were able to also complete some much need deep cleaning throughout the clubhouse. Our ballroom carpeting has been ordered which will just about complete all of our clubhouse renovation major items. Special thanks to Eric Balsom for helping us with this much needed task! We are still waiting for the new HVAC unit for the 1921 room but are happy to report that women’s card room tables finally arrived! We are still in need, as I call them some “nice to haves” throughout the clubhouse and will be working on these items during the year! As they always say, “it sometimes can take a long time to make a house a home!” Looking forward to another busy and exciting year at TVCC now all we need is a little cooperation from Mother Nature! Congratulations to Nancy Mohr, our Administrative Assistant who was recognized as our “Employee of the Month” for February. Nancy’s is responsible for creating all of our awesome emails and flyers. Her warm and friendly smile and positive attitude does not go unrecognized. Nancy is an extraordinary member of our staff, and we hope she knows how much she is appreciated. Special thanks for all that you do and most of all for keeping us straight, each and every day. The March and April “Employees of the Month" will be listed in our May Divot!

Adam Mis, our Greens Superintendent. Adam is “the get it done guy.” on our staff. There is nothing he can’t do and always with a smile. His positive attitude reflects his personality. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the club. You are a true leader, and we are very fortunate have you on our staff. Brandon Sears, our Assistant General Manager. Brandon has been very instrumental in the second phase of our clubhouse renovation. He helped to coordinate the opening of the clubhouse – with his attention to detail and lengthy checklists from cleaning to purchasing equipment, glassware, and china. With his knowledge and love of food, especially wine (he is a Sommelier) he developed our special events brochures, and upgraded our wine and cocktail lists, he also continues to work with Chef Dan on various food offerings. He is a forward thinker who is always developing new events and programs for all of you to enjoy. He has helped the staff create “core values” and is constantly mentoring, leading our staff, and challenging them to provide the excellent service that you and your families deserve. He is hardworking, dependable and his energy, enthusiasm and genuine demeanor is contagious. Special thanks Brandon for all that you do, and we are very much looking forward to year #2!

Special thanks to Kelly Longo for planning the Ladies’ Snow Stroll! This event was a great way to bring some of our ladies together to celebrate “winter and friendship.” Everyone had a fantastic time and we heard that the “spiked” hot chocolate was to die for!

As you know, Corn Hole is very popular at the Club in the

winter. Both events in February were sold out! It can be quite competitive at times and have been told that the finals are like watching OT during the Super Bowl. Good times were had by all! A very special thanks to our chairs, Anna and Justin Andreozzi.

A Message from our Assistant General Manager Brandon Sears What a winter season it has been! As restrictions continue to ease, we look forward to welcoming everyone to a great line up of social events in the coming months. The food and beverage team has been working diligently to finalize our social calendar for the remainder of the year! In March, we look forward to welcoming Barry Dodds, the estate Ambassador for Freemark Abbey Winery in Napa Valley. Barry joined the Freemark team in 2006 and was promoted to Estate Ambassador in 2015. Be sure to not miss this wonderful event! As we approach the upcoming golf season, be sure to keep an eye out on ForeTees and at the Halfway House for pop-up cook outs depending on weather and course conditions. As much as we will miss having Ronnie in the Clubhouse, we know she is looking forward to getting back out on the course as much as everyone else is! We look forward to a great spring and summer season!

What a wonderful Club! As I conclude my first five months at Transit Valley, I would like to thank the membership for the warm welcome, it has been enjoyable getting to know everyone. I look forward to continuing meeting the incredible membership as the spring season approaches. During my first few months, I have received positive feedback from the membership to continue to improve the food & beverage operation. One of the most common questions I receive is regarding the wine pricing at the Club. As a team, we work every day to continue to find world class wines, while also offering the best value for our members. After meeting with a plethora of wine representatives, makers, and owners we have a better understanding of the current wine market. Yes, unfortunately wine prices did increase in the past year. Several common factors have contributed to the rise in price for all wineries, especially in California. Devastating wildfires in 2017, 2018, 2020, and extreme drought in 2021 drastically reduced crop yields leading to a limited supply of wine. Shipping costs have increased, with the cost of oil rising over 250% in the past two years. The final common factor is the increase in lumber pricing. Wine barrels have gone up over 250% adding another expense for wineries. We look forward to bringing many new wines to our list for everyone to enjoy! Cheers!

Culinary Boot Camp Tuesday, March 29th | 6:00PM Join the TVCC Culinary Team in our Clubhouse kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience. 12 guests will be randomly separated into three teams to work with a chef leader to produce a three-course meal. First course, second, and dessert. When finished with preparations, each team will produce its dish to be served to the entire group. The Menu will be available a week prior to the event to ensure product availability. $40 per person

Although there may still be plenty of snow, your recreation staff is well on their way to planning for those bright, sunny summer days! We are so thankful to all of the families who have continued to come out to support our events. We love having you! If you or your children have any suggestions for upcoming programs and events, I am always open to new ideas. Please contact me via email at astaszak@ transitvalley.com. Kids' Club is updating their weekend hours effective immediately. We will now offer supervised activities from 5:15 pm - 9:15 pm on Fridays and Saturdays while you dine. Reservations are not required. Children must be three years old, and potty trained to participate. We cannot wait to see you!

I think we are almost there . . .”there” being the end of winter. Although we have a couple more months to enjoy the snow, I think we are all looking forward to some warmth and sunshine. But, hey, we live in Buffalo and must embrace the snow. And, we did just that! The Snow Stroll was a huge success. We had nearly 40 ladies come out to enjoy a stroll around the golf course either by snowshoe, skis, or walking. Although the rain the evening before laid a layer of ice on the snow, we are a tough bunch of ladies and endured the elements anyway. Thanks to Kelly Longo for planning the event, and a special thanks to De’Ann and Chris for ensuring we had hot cocoa, with a little something special added, to warm us up after. Indoors, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Stitch-Along, and Canasta remain very well attended and a great way to stay connected. We are in high-speed planning mode for ladies’ events, golf, and entertainment. The calendar of events is finished and can can be found on Pg. 14. We have a lot of new and exciting events that will certainly be enticing to all ladies. The results of the Club survey will also help give us guidance and insight into how we can plan events. I would like to carry on the theme of a welcoming club and continue to encourage the ladies of the Club to participate in events. I promise you will have a good time. Please never hesitate to reach out to me or members of the women’s committee to get involved or help with introductions. Stay warm – Spring is coming!!

Women's Spring Golf Meeting Fellow Golfers, We would like to take this time to welcome you all back to Transit Valley Country Club and the 2022 Golf Season! We are proud to serve as your representatives for the golf program at our wonderful Club. We enjoyed celebrating our Centennial Season last year and look forward to new experiences and making new memories in the season before us. Thank you to all who completed the member survey. We appreciate all the comments and recommendations made to help better our golfing community experience. Please know that all comments are valuable to us and will be addressed with the best interests of our golfing members. One of the requested items was a time to review golf rules, etiquette, posting scores and handicap calculations for tournaments. Based on your input, we have scheduled such an event for Sunday, April 24th from 10:00AM – 11:00AM at the Club. Please feel free to make your own reservations for a la carte brunch immediately following the meeting. Our golf season will begin on May 5th with our Women’s Opening Day event, a step aside scramble. Supporting “The Swing for the Children” Golf Tournament will assist in enhancing the services provided to abused children in our community. Quite often the smallest voices need the biggest help. Please Support Our Tournament & Auction Be a participant, a caddy, a sponsor, donate articles such as tickets to events, vacations, designer items, gift cards, themed baskets, and anything else you think would work for the auctions.

A Message from The Golf Professional Jonathan Decker, PGA

As I write this, we are already halfway through February with the start of the golf season just around the corner. 2022 will be an active season as rounds played continue to be strong and membership levels are the highest they have been in several years. While we have reached a certain level of normalcy in our daily lives, the supply chain issues that have plagued all industries will still be present in golf for several months to come. Whether it is raw material shortages for golf ball production, a lack of container ships to move golf bags across the Pacific, or a scarce supply of Asian produced golf shafts due to shutdowns last summer – things are still very challenging for many of the products we use for golf. With that said, I would suggest for those interested in upgrading their equipment or footwear to consider purchasing during March, April, or May to help accommodate for any possible delays and have the new items ready to go by the time the nice weather arrives. With the addition of the simulators, you now have the ability to get fit indoors during the winter months.

Spring Junior Golf

Starting Sunday, April 24th and running through Sunday, June 12th, we will be offering a spring junior golf session for ages. Our youngest group will meet once per week on Sundays, while the other three will enjoy Wednesday and Sunday sessions. This program will cover all aspects of the game in a fun and welcoming environment for the children and grandchildren of all Transit Valley members. All skill levels are encouraged to participate.

A Message from the Greens Superintendent Adam Mis We are halfway through a cold and snowy winter. One advantage that the winter offers is that snow cover allows us to remove trees without doing damage to the course. Our priority continues to be the removal of dead and dying trees. Many of the Ash trees on the property have been attacked by the emerald ash borer, an insect that gets into the xylem and phloem tissue of the bark, restricting the flow of nutrients and water, eventually causing the tree to die. While certainly apparent on the outside, it is the inside of the tree that tells the real story, with many of the trees reduced to a fraction of what they once were as you can see in the pictures. These trees are extra susceptible to wind storms and other elements, with some of them incurring additional damage over the winter. Like many businesses, the grounds team is also seeing plenty of personnel movement with my assistants moving on to great new opportunities - always a bittersweet event. Happily, I am able to introduce our new additions. Like any business, our contribution to TVCC’s overall success is dependent on building a great team. At this point, we are positioned well for 2022 and look forward to the challenge that lies ahead with exciting plans for 2022 and beyond. There is no better time than now to be a member at Transit Valley Country Club. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the next 100 years and to be part of the Transit Valley family.

Tyler brings a wealth of experience to our team, having previously worked as the Assistant Superintendent at Deerfield Golf and CC in Brockport, NY, Atlantic Dunes in Hilton Head, SC, Brookfield CC in Clarence, and Craig Burn GC in East Aurora. It has been a big year for Tyler, on top of a new position at TVCC he recently got engaged to be married.

Renee Lantz Renee has been working with me since 2016, joining TVCC soon after I did. Her contributions and engagement have led to her recent promotion to Assistant Superintendent. She is currently studying Turfgrass Management at The Great Lakes Turf School on evenings and weekends.

Jeff Ferguson Jeff has been the Assistant Superintendent at Brookfield CC in Clarence, Superintendent at Rothlands Golf Course in Akron, and recently as the Head Groundskeeper at Nichols School in Buffalo. Prior to those roles he interned at several great golf courses around the US. He brings years of experience in turf management to our team.

Dress Code and Denim Policy Grill Room, Patio, & Simulator Lounge

Country Club appropriate denim is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and dark in color(white or black denim is also acceptable). Country Club appropriate denim does not include holes or rips, fading or stonewash look, frayed material, denim shorts, skirts, dresses, work type denim shirts, or jeans that are worn extremely low cut. Tasteful and appropriate shirts and shoes must be worn. For men, denim must be paired with any tucked-in and collared shirt, sport coat or sweater. Country Club Attire is also deemed appropriate which is defined as: Bermuda length shorts, sundresses, collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire.

Country Club Attire will be acceptable consisting of collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire. Sport coats are optional but encouraged. The intent is to not allow denim. However, denim will be permissible if the Grill Room has reached its maximum capacity.

Club/Special Events

Dress codes will be defined for all Club/Special Events and will be communicated in the newsletter.

Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dress-up rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
