I am of the opinion that windows 7 was the best operating system developed by Microsoft. When windows 8 was released, with it, came disaster, this was due to the decision by Microsoft that we did not need the start button any more. Even though there are numerous valid reasons to stay with Windows 7, it is time to start preparing for the inevitable upgrade. January 2020 is the end of the road for Windows 7. So, after January 2020 their will be no more security updates. There is an option for anybody running Windows 7 Professional however, you can pay Microsoft a fee to continue to receive security updates after January 2020. There is currently no pricing in euro available for this service, current UK prices is approx. £40.
I have had a lot of enquires in regards to whether there is a product that would enable you to record Satellite as well as saorview, on the one box. In 2017, I was delighted to hear that saorview were bringing out a box called Saorview Connect which was supposed to have these features. Unfortunately, I was disappointed at the time of its release you could not record with it, this was blamed on software not available at the time.

According to Saorview the new software will be available sometime this year, this new software upgrade will bring the free-to-air platform closer to the functionality available through pay-TV platforms. The new features will include a facility to catch up on missed programmes by scrolling back through the electronic programme guide, as well as a remote recording function.

John has inherited a farm from his mother. The only access is down a bothreen that is not a public road. It would appear from checking with the Property Registration Authority that the bothreen is not a registered right of way. John is concerned as he understands the law is changing in relation to rights of way in 2021.
A right of way occurs if you own a piece of land and in order to get to it you must pass over a piece of land or roadway which is owned by another. Rights of Way, are also known as easements. Easements include other rights for example, to cut turf, fishing rights, sporting rights etc. They are rights to avail of use of another’s land for some purpose. Rights of way are a right to pass and repass over land and are usually phrased that it applies to a particular person and anybody they transfer onto whether by sale or inheritance. The extent of the right of way should be set out but could include full right and liberty at all times and for all purposes on foot and with or without animals and vehicles to pass and repass over a particular section of property. In order to ensure this is registered one needs to have the right of way measured up by an engineer and marked on a map in yellow between various points which are lettered.
Traditionally many rights of way in Ireland were there by way of long use( usually 20 years or more) and were never registered but the pressure is on now as the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 provides that if a right of way of long user is not registered by December 2021 then one would have to build up at least 12 years long user of the right of way starting in 2009 before one is entitled to register it by way of long user. Another way a right of way can be created is by a Deed of Grant of Right of Way signed by the owner of the land over which the right of way applies. These should be registered.
All in all as registration of rights of way take some time people should be getting legal advice now so that they can apply to register the right of way before December 2021

Benefits of having a screening test include:
• Screening can detect a problem before you have any symptoms (such as bleeding, pain, weight loss, lumps, etc).
• Discovering a condition earlier can mean that treatment is more effective.
• Finding out you have an increased risk of a health problem can help you make better choices about your lifestyle. For example, after blood pressure screening and blood tests, your GP can calculate your personal risk of heart attack or stroke. They can then show you how making changes like stopping smoking or lowering your cholesterol reduces this risk.
• Screening, in conjunction with new treatments and surgeries, save lives.
Risks and limitations of screening include:
• No screening test is 100% perfect. A "false positive" is when you are told you have a problem when in reality you do not. This may lead to undue anxiety, as well as unnecessary further tests or treatment.
Screening could also miss a problem – this is called a "false negative" and could lead to you being falsely reassured and ignoring future symptoms.

• Even if your screening test result is normal you could still go on to develop the condition. Also, you could acquire a condition in the interval between screening tests; for example, a breast lump a year after your routine mammogram. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention if you experience any new symptoms.
• In some cases, there is no benefit in early detection and the condition might never progress in a person’s lifetime. This is one reason why it is not recommended to screen men over the age of 70 without symptoms for prostate cancer.
• Screening large numbers of healthy people is expensive and uses money which could otherwise be spent on treating ill people.
A normal screening test is not a clean bill of health! If you have a symptom or a concern, please see your GP.

One of Kerry’s most decorated Gaelic footballer players, Kieran Donaghy, is the latest star signing at Off The Ball.
The former Kingdom fullforward – who played senior football for 14 years, amassing four All-Ireland wins and eight Munster titles – joins the everexpanding Off The Ball team, to deliver his GAA expertise and analysis.
Speaking about the announcement, Ger Gilroy, Off The Ball’s Managing Director, said:
We are accustomed to reading about Tractor Runs, Bicycle Runs, Park Runs and all for very good causes but this is the first time a Bus Run of sorts has taken to the roads of Kerry. A Coach Convoy Tour of the stunning Slea Head is the brainchild of Paddy Kennedy of Kennedy Coaches Annascaul. Monies raised from the ticket sales will go to the Kerry Hospice Foundation. Paddy has rounded up the support of Kerry Coaches in Killarney, Flynn’s Coaches of Castlemaine and O’Shea’s Coaches of Tralee who have all come on board in support of this good cause. The date for this unique day out is Saturday, March 9th and whether you live in the environs of Killarney, Killorglin, Tralee or anywhere along the route to Dingle there is a pickup point near you!!
“Kieran is a great asset to the Off The Ball line-up. His GAA record speaks for itself and he has never been afraid to speak his mind, so we know the depth of analysis he will bring to our GAA coverage will be outstanding.
As part of his new role with Off The Ball, Kieran will be a regular contributor across all Off The Ball platforms, on-air, online and at Off The Ball’s live events.
Also speaking about his Off The Ball appointment, Kieran Donaghy said:
“I’ve done quite a bit of work with Off The Ball over the years. From sitting alongside Darran O’Sullivan and the late great Graham Taylor, at a live broadcast from Glenbeigh in 2011, to numerous interviews throughout my senior career, I have always enjoyed and respected what the Off The Ball team does. With Championship season just around the corner, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the coverage and analysis side of the game and also learning from some of the best sports

broadcasters in the country.”
For further information, check out: www.OffTheBall.com.
We caught up with Paddy to find out a little more about his fundraising idea. “My wife Anne and I wanted to do our bit for the Kerry Hospice Foundation and I guess as the coach tour business is what we know best we hope this is an idea that Kerry people will gladly support as there is actually great value on offer and I can assure you this will be no ordinary tour! The Convoy gathering point will be the South Pole Inn Annascaul at 12 noon. The local committee has organised all kinds of entertainment, there will be singing tour guides, storytellers and dancing at the crossroads and then back to the Dingle Skellig Hotel for an “Afternoon Tea Dance “ and around 6.30pm the coaches will depart Dingle to bring everyone back home again. Question:
It’s nearly Valentine’s Day and I’m starting to panic. My husband is planning a date to get our love life back on track. Since I’ve had my baby I live in baggy clothes. I can’t face the idea of dressing up, wearing anything tight, or him seeing me naked. I hate the extra weight and stretch marks. What can I do to get in shape fast for Valentine’s Day?

Jenny, Ardfert
A: Jenny, your putting a lot of pressure on yourself for Valentine’s Day, I’m more concerned that your unhappy in your body.
• In the short term, a little boost such as getting your hair or make up done for your date will make you feel more con dent and amazing no matter what your body shape.
• Why worry about stretch marks? Remember he isn’t perfect either! You love your husband even if he gains a few pounds or his hair goes grey.
• Take action, make a plan on how to get your pre-baby body back or look better than you ever did! An hour is only 5% of your day: t in either a walk, home workout, exercise class or gym training session and prepare some healthy food for the day.
• After giving birth ligaments can be loose, meaning your joints aren’t as stable as before. It’s important to work within a comfortable range with all exercises, in particular weight lifting and stretching to avoid injury by overloading the joints.
• I recommend focusing on improving muscle density lost through the stresses of child birth/pregnancy and also focusing on strengthening your stomach muscles and lower back.
• Set a realistic goal and timeframe: celebrities that snap into shape straight away after having a baby have a private team consisting of personal trainers, nanny’s, chefs and stylists to help them.
• As a mom your free time is limited so you need to make the most of every workout. Personal training with a PT who understands your concerns can help you:
o Get results faster
o Exercise safely
o Drop body fat / tone up
o Customise a nutrition plan that helps you t back into your skinny jeans and gives you enough energy to care for your baby

Located in the heart of Tralee, Bridge Place Dental Practice has been revolutionising the way in which dental treatment is provided since 2006. Principal dentist Dr Colm O’Loghlen is an experienced implantologist.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a a tooth or are missing all their teeth.
Dentistry is in Colm’s DNA. Colm’s father Dr. Colm O’Loghlen Snr practiced dentistry for 40 years in Tralee before retiring nearly three years ago. After studying his undergraduate in UCC Colm then completed his postgraduate training in the UK.
Bridge Place Dental is a team of 16 which includes five dentists, one trainee dentist and two dental hygienists. The Practice is spread over 3 floors, there are 5 state of the art spacious dental surgeries, a hygiene surgery, an Invisalign suite and a treatment co-ordinator suite. Colm invests heavily in the most advanced technologies. Bridge Place Dental Practice is one of only three dental practices in Ireland who provide treatment using a dental laser. Colm has a Master’s Degree in Restorative Dentistry, his passion is implantology and he is qualified to administer IV sedation for those who have a fear of the dentist or to make complex procedures more comfortable for patients.

Tom: “At the start I was very apprehensive about doing the procedure. I am thrilled I went ahead with it. I have never looked back since and I am delighted with my natural looking smile. “
“
Mike: “I would highly recommend Bridge Place Dental Practice and I would highly recommend the “teeth in a day” treatment. I can go to a restaurant and order what I like without worrying about loose dentures.”
Teresa: “I couldn’t speak properly with Dentures. With dental implants you do feel like they are your own teeth. “Getting Teeth in a day” I feel as though my confidence has been restored. Colm and his team have changed my life.”
Mary: “I am delighted with my new smile. I would do it all over again in the morning. I was so happy to throw away all my tubes of Fixodent! My family said that I am a lot more outgoing since I got the procedure done. I will be forever grateful to Colm and all the staff.”
This patient in his 50's had neglected his teeth for many years and the only option in the future was to remove the failling teeth. The thoughts of dentures terrified the patient, therefore he opted for Teeth in a Day.

Tune in this Monday and hear Colm discuss all things Implant related.

This week I’m going to be helping out all you gals who want make Valentine’s Day all about YOU. As The Pussycat Dolls say “I Don’t Need A Man To Make Me Feel Good”. There’s plenty of ways you can enjoy Valentine’s Day without having ‘that someone special’ in your life. I’ve had more than a few Valentines of celebrating me so here are my 10 top tips on a Valentine’s Day for YOU!
1. BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING: You don’t need to spend money on anyone else. This is your day. Spoil yourself. Get that high end bronzer you’ve been ogling the past 2 months, (Benefit Hoola Bronzer is fab!), get yourself that book you’ve been dying to read, splurge on those shoes that nearly have a hole in them from you staring in at them from outside the shop window. Retail therapy is a necessity for you this Valentines. BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING!
2. GET A WASH & BLOW-DRY: Don’t lie, having your hair blow dried professionally feels amazing. When your hair feels great, you feel great. Who doesn’t love a good hair day? A wash & blow dry from a hair salon costs in and around €20, you’re worth it.

3. PAINT YOUR NAILS: I don’t know about you but when my nails are painted or when I’ve got my gels on, I just feel a bit more together and on top of things. It has me all like ‘Hey world, I’m ready for anything today’! So give those tips a fresh coat or if you’re like me and can’t paint your nails for love nor money, go get shellacs, gels, whatever you please!
4. WEAR MATCHING UNDERWEAR: Just because you’ve no plans for anyone to see said underwear, doesn’t say you can’t do it for yourself. We all know and love that feeling of fabulosity when our underwear matches.
5. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR GIRLS: As Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” Plan a fun night in with takeaway and wine or a night out on the town with even more wine. Either way you’re guaranteed laughter, fun and maybe a little bit of tears over horrible exes!
6. DRESS UP: If you are going to head out, get your glad rags on. Wear the high heels that make your legs go on for days and that dress you have in your wardrobe that you’ve been saving, look like a million dollars, feel like a million dollars!
7. DRESS DOWN: On the flip side, if you’re staying in dress down and cosy. Fluffy socks, comfy clothes and hair on top of the head. You know you’re fabulous anyway.
8. HOME TREATMENTS: Whip out the face mask, foot cream, hair mask & other pamper goodies and turn your home into a spa. Tonight it’s all about you.
9. HEAD TO THE CINEMA : I love a good cinema trip, really calms the mind. Just maybe avoid it on actual Valentine’s Day as you may be surrounded by couples.
10. IF ALL ELSE FAILS… At least all the Valentines chocolate is reduced Friday, and we all know it tastes so much better when it’s half price!
So that’s it for this week! Hope you all enjoyed this week’s light hearted post! Have a great weekend and I’ll be back here next week with more beauty related goodness! This week I’m going to be talking about one of my favourite things - LEG DAY. Why I love training legs, the benefits, my typical leg day workout and more. So if you wanna know more… Keep reading. I literally had trouble walking after leg day this week… not good.
I think my love of training legs stems from a lot of things, the main one being that I always saw my legs as my ‘problem area’, so when I started training them and saw changes and progress, I got addicted to training legs. The legs are one of the largest parts of the whole body, and I love how toned strong legs look, so I train with that goal in mind. Also, when you train legs you’re also training your bum - and who doesn’t love a good bum!
Luckily for us women, we are stronger in the legs than in any other part. We’re actually

stronger in the legs than men are in relation to the rest of our bodies. So we’ve no excuse not to have strong toned legs!
A lot of leg exercises such as squats, leg press and lunges, are compound movements - which means they involve more than one muscle group so you’ll be working all three of the leg groups, Quads, Hamstrings & Glutes. These movements also target your core strength, winning!
Leg workouts when done correctly, are hard. You will be out of breath, sweating and feeling the burn.
I’ve recently started incorparating GVT(German Volume Training) into one of my leg days. So on one of my leg days, I will do every movement aka squat, lunge, deadlift - for 10 reps and 10 sets at a weight that isn’t too heavy but is still a struggle for the last two sets.

WARMUP: 10 mins of either uphill walking or the stairmaster
SQUATS: 2 warmup sets just with the bar followed by 3 working sets with 10 reps of 40kg
GOOD MORNINGS: 5 sets of 10-15 reps with just the bar
LEG PRESS: 2 warmup sets of 20kg followed by 3 working sets of 40kg
WALKING LUNGES: 5 sets of walking up and down the gym floor with 6-8kg dumbbells
GLUTE HAMSTRING RAISES: 5 sets of 10 reps with 10kg weight
CABLE PULL THROUGH: 5 sets of 10 reps with 12-17kg weight
WEIGHTED GLUTE BRIDGE: 5 sets of 10 reps with weight
Also, all women have cellulite. It’s inevitable and isn’t something to be ashamed of, but having more muscle mass in your legs can significantly reduce the appearance of it. Just saying.

Finally,

a few
!
there wwas a bit of sunshine last Monday morning and after spending a little while in my garden, I had the joy of a few friends dropping in... What to feed them? why this tasty little dish. Its both a crowd filler and a crowd pleaser!
INGREDIENTS
• 1/2 pound thick-cut bacon, finely chopped
• 1 large onion, finely diced
• 1 celery rib, finely diced
• 2 medium carrots, finely diced, plus 2 large carrots, cut into 2 1/2-inch lengths
• 14 ounces dried cannellini beans (2 cups), soaked overnight and drained
• Sea salt
• Black pepper
• 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seeds
• 1 1/2 teaspoons coriander seeds
• 1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard seeds
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
METHOD

• 3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
• 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
• Twelve 2-ounce sausages
• 2 large sweet potatoes (1 1/4 pounds), peeled and cut into 2 1/2inch pieces
• 3 turnips (3/4 pound), peeled and cut into 2 1/2-inch pieces
• 4 ounces rustic peasant bread, crusts removed, bread cut into 1/4-inch dice (2 cups)
• 2 tablespoons minced parsley
• 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
• Plain yogurt, for serving

In a large enameled cast-iron casserole, cook the bacon over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, until the fat is rendered. Add the onion, celery and diced carrots and cook, stirring occasionally, until beginning to soften, about 8 minutes. Add the beans, cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to moderately low and simmer the beans until al dente, about 20 minutes. Remove from the heat, add a generous pinch of salt and let stand for 30 minutes. Drain the beans, bacon and vegetables and transfer to a bowl; reserve 2 cups of the cooking liquid. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 160°. In a small pan, toast the cumin, coriander and mustard seeds over moderate heat, shaking the pan, until fragrant and the mustard seeds begin to pop, 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a spice grinder and let cool. Add the smoked paprika and crushed red pepper and grind the harissa blend into a powder. Wipe out the casserole and heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in it. Add the merguez and cook over moderate heat, until lightly browned all over, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Do not wipe out the casserole. Add the sweet potatoes, turnips and large carrots to the casserole. Season with salt and black pepper and cook over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to soften, 5 minutes. Add the harissa spice blend and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Stir in the bean mixture and the reserved 2 cups of cooking liquid and bring just to a simmer. Arrange the merguez on top. Cover and bake the cassoulet for about 1 hour, until the beans are tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Remove from the oven and uncover the cassoulet.
Preheat the grill In a bowl, toss the bread, parsley, lemon zest and the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil; season with salt and black pepper. Sprinkle the bread over the cassoulet and grill until golden and crisp. Let the cassoulet stand for 10 minutes before serving. Pass yogurt at the table.

Less and less people are coming to see it, as they all know the routine by now.
One day the circus director is approached by a stranger. The strangers says: “Hey, I’ve got just what you need to save this circus!”
“And what is that?” asks the circus director.
“I’ve got a cat that plays guitar and a dog that sings”.
The circus director finds that hard to believe, but sure enough the next day the stranger brings along the cat and dog, and the cat plays guitar while the dog sings.
In no time the circus is more popular than ever before, and tons of people come every day to see the cat and dog perform.
“Thank you so much!” says the circus director to the stranger. “You gotta tell me the secret, though. I mean this can’t possibly be real?”
The stranger replies: “Alright, I’ll tell you what’s really going on: the cat is playing guitar AND singing, the dog’s just moving his mouth.”
She thought about it and nodded with a smile. “Yes, of course I still would love you. I would MISS you, but still love you.

The second gentleman is trained with a sword, and knows that his opponent is skilled with a firearm. As such, he chooses to give himself the advantage. “I choose to duel with swords!”
The challenger nods at this choice. “Very well then.” He hands both swords to his opponent. “Here are your swords. That just leaves me with the guns.”

Diesel is not dead for a sizeable number of motorists..
Diesel is not dead for a sizeable number of motorists, judging by a recent survey. It found that two-in-five people thinking of buying a new car this year intend to get a dieselpowered vehicle.
The CarsIreland.ie survey also revealed that:
* One-in-five of those surveyed will buy petrol, and
* One-in-10 are planning on buying a hybrid or plug-in hybrid. Fewer than 10pc are thinking about an electric vehicle at this stage. That is still a reasonable figure, however, considering how low a base from which EVs are starting. Early SIMI figures suggest there has been a serious increase in EV buying. Of the 1,000 people surveyed, six in ten are thinking about purchasing a new car within the next six months.
* Mercedes’ commercial van range will benefit from the technology of the brand’s EQ fullelectric vehicles.
They are planning on expanding battery power to the commercial van segment - specifically the V-Class.
The company will debut the Concept EQV at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5. They say the concept will give a “first concrete look at the electric future of the multi-purpose vehicle”.
* Renault have updated their Scenic (5-seater and 7-seater) with new trim levels and engines. The new 1.3 TCe 140 petrol (6spd manual and 7spd auto) starts from €27,790. And the new 1.7 dCi 120 diesel (6spd manual, 7spd auto) kicks off from €30,710.
* A more accurate reflection of what Skoda’s new KAMIQ small urban SUV will look like is pictured here today (above).
It is the first ŠKODA to have dynamic indicators front and rear.
* Volkswagen will reveal the first fully electric version of a new buggy early next month. And it might, just might make it to Irish showrooms though I would not bet on it just yet. The concept (below) takes its cues from the US dune buggies and is based on the automaker’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB).
* Renault here have announced that former Dublin footballer Jason Sherlock has become a brand ambassador.

Mazda will unveil a new compact SUV at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The world debutant will be the second model in the company’s new-generation line-up and, as such, has latest design and architecture. The new SKYACTIV engines include the brand’s SPCCI (Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition) technology. Mazda claim it has a unique combustion method which manifests itself with the free-revving performance of a petrol engine and the frugality of a diesel. The brand’s MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition makes its European debut. It is celebrating 30 years on the road - it made its world premier at the 1989 Chicago Motor Show. More than a million have been bought since. The Mazda3 hatchback and saloon, the first of the new generation, will also be at Geneva. indo motoring
The ES is the best-selling Lexus in the world but this is the first time the nameplate will be offered in Europe. Lexus is nudging into the premium executive market to rival the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. Shrinking the best elements of the larger LS, the ES is dramatically styled and unmistakably a Lexus. The distinctive design will certainly set the neighbours’ curtains twitching. Inside it is anything but bland and is well made throughout. While the touchpad control provides you with lots of useful information at your fingertips, it’s not the most user-friendly. Elsewhere, ergonomics are good and there are many clever touches to keep the driver’s focus on the road ahead, including locating the centre display screen, instrument panel and head-up display in a tight cluster within their field of view. There is room for four adults but the sloping roofline makes the rear a little cramped. The battery is stored under the floor so it doesn’t compromise the rear seat or the boot space but at 454 litres, it is smaller than rivals. Power comes courtesy of a 2.5-litre 178 bhp petrol engine combined with an electric motor to produce 218 bhp and 221Nm of torque. According to Lexus, on a mix of urban and rural driving, you will use about 4.7 litres per 100km and with CO2 of 106g/km annual motor-tax is €190. The ES is surprisingly good behind the wheel and the steering is well weighted. From the first hairpin bend during our test drive on the mountain roads around Malaga, the ES just seemed to want to go faster. Silently and smoothly, it soaks up bumps. Most impressive of all is the suspension, making it a seriously comfortable car. The ES 300h Executive starts at €49,450 and three progressively more lavish trims include Luxury, F Sport and Premium. An upgraded Lexus Safety System comes as standard. With our unreliable electric charging infrastructure, the most workable solution for many drivers seeking to live a greener life has to be a hybrid. The ES combines a compelling blend of refinement, performance and technology. So, while the executive saloon market may be shrinking, cars like the ES remind us why there’s still life left in the classic four-door.

Question
The closing date for applying to college was 1 February. Can I still apply?
Answer
You apply for almost all full-time undergraduate courses through the Central Applications Office (CAO). This includes, for example, university, technical university and institute of technology undergraduate courses such as Higher Certificates at Level 6 and degrees at Levels 7 and 8.
The closing date for 2019 CAO applications was 1 February 2019. However, you can still apply. Late applications are allowed up to 5.15pm on 1 May 2019. There is a fee to apply for courses through the CAO and late applications are subject to an increased fee. Late online applications cost €60. You can change the courses you picked or the order of courses on your application from 5 February to 1 March at 5:15pm for a fee of €10. Another Change of Mind facility opens on 5 May and closes on 1 July at 5:15pm and is free of charge.
You must apply to the CAO by 1 February 2019 if you want to be assessed as a mature applicant, or if you want to be considered for the HEAR and/or DARE schemes. There are also some restricted courses which you cannot apply for after 1 February 2019. The CAO provides a handbook that lists all the courses on offer and gives information on how to apply.
Decisions on offers of places are normally made in August and September, after the results of the Leaving Certificate have come out. You can find a detailed schedule of the offer rounds in the CAO handbook. It is important to note that there is no central applications body for Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses. Students must apply directly to the individual colleges. You should check the closing date for PLC courses with the individual college.

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors returned to winning ways in emphatic style with a surprisingly easy win over DCU Saints at the Tralee Sports Complex on Saturday night. As a result the Warriors are now joint second in the League with Belfast Star and Killester, two wins behind League leaders Templeogue.

Despite the facile nature of the win, the Warriors can reflect on a number of significant positives, particularly the outstanding defensive and offensive displays of Kieran Donaghy and Keith Jumper who were simply outstanding at both boards sharing 27 points and 28 rebounds in the game. The Warriors faithful also warmed to the introduction of new signing Kendall Williams who showed glimpses of the incisive and instinctive play that he is capable of.
Next up for Warriors is the first of four remaining road trips as they face Griffith College Swords Thunder at the ALSAA Sports Centre in Dublin next Saturday afternoon (Feb 9th) with an earlier than usual tip off time of 5.00pm. (Alan Cantwell) photos ..Liam Ryan

TRALEE’S SAINT’S IN BASKETBALL HEAVEN:
Any time a team from Kerry reaches a national final in Dublin and then brings back the trophy after beating a team from Cork is one to celebrate.
And this exactly what happened in the 18’s Boys National Shield with St Brendan’s defeating Tradehouse Ballincollig 70-56.
The Tralee side showed no nerves as they took to the National Basketball Arena court, especially after some of the boys had experienced disappointment playing with their Mounthawk school.
They hit the Cork side early and were 22-5 up at the end of the first quarter showing huge desire and discipline in defence and great accuracy in offence as would be expected from a side coached by Fergal O’Sullivan and Pa Carey. Any hopes of a Ballincolling comeback were quickly extinguished by half time as they were 31 points in front 44-13 and they had one hand on the Shield. Their opponents did make a better effort in the second half as they outscored St Brendan’s 20 point to 14 but at this stage the St Brendan’s side were in cruise control. They still had a 15 point lead going into the final quarter and ran out 70-56 winners and brought another national title back to Tralee,. St Brendan’s run to the final was as impressive as their final display putting up big scores against Killester 93-71, Templeogue 94-80 and Drogheda Bullets 93-84 in the semi-finals. The Cork club had beaten Limerick Celtics, Limerick Lions and Neptune in their run to the final.
Top scores for St Brendan’s 18’s were James Fernane on 18, Rap Buivdas on 16 and JackTobin ending with 14.
With Mercy Mounthawk 16’s reaching their Cup final and the latter stages of the League and with the Warrior flying high in the SuperLeague basketball is certainly on a high in Tralee.
KABB FINALS:
It was also the first weekend of the Kerry Area Basketball finals with the Cup’s taking place in the Pres Gym in Killarney. There was also a great day of action in the u10 Blitz in the Tralee Sports Complex with a number of clubs from around the
county taking part. This weekend will see the finals of the Shields taking place in the same venue.
From a Tralee point of view on Saturday St Brendan’s were in the u16 Boys Plate and u16 Boys Cup finals. The Plate side put up a great effort before going down 37-49 to Killarney Cougars. In the 16’s Cup final there was a cracker between the Tralee and St Paul’s Killarney boys with St Brendan’s winning 59-57.
On Sunday St Brendan’s were in the u12 and u14 Boys Cup finals and Tralee Imperials contested the u13 and u17 Girls Cup deciders. Firstly in the Girls Tralee Imperials u13’s took the win over St Anne’s and doubled up in the u17’s defeating Gneeveguilla 49-32. The St Brendan’s u14’s took the Division 1 Cup defeating St Mary’s 55-47 while their u12’s put in a great effort before losing out to St Mary’s.
13 A LUCKY NUMBER FOR WARRIORS AS THEY SEE OF DCU SAINTS:
With both Garvey’s Tralee Warriors and DCU Saints level on points going into this game it was expected to be close. And with the Tralee side having a game in hand they knew a win would be very important in their push for a playoff spot.
In the end the Warriors put the Saints to the sword with an empathic 89-55 point win. This leaves the Warriors in joint second place level with Belfast Star and Killester and just two wins behind League leaders Templeouge who escaped from Keane’s Killorglin with a 1 point win. While there were only 5 point between the sides at the end of the first quarter, 16-11 to the home side, the Warriors took over in the second quarter and with the likes of Paul Dick, Kieran Donaghy, Keith Jumper and Dusan Bogdanovic all playing well the lead was out to 4229 at the end of the first half.
Into the third quarter and with Eoin Quigley leading the way the home side were really enjoying their side’s performance including new signing Kendall Williams. They were on top under both boards, especially Donaghy and Jumper who combined for 27 rebounds, and by the end of the third quarter had only given up 41 points while scoring 69 and the points were
secure.
Coach Pat Price was able to introduce Rap Buivydas and Daire Kennelly who along with Paul McMahon got some valuable game time that will stand to them going forward.
Warriors PRO Alan Cantwell said while this was an easy win in the end the most pleasing aspect was the display on the night. “The whole squad put in a great effort on the night and while the likes of Donaghy and Jumper stood out all the players stepped up. It was great to see some of the younger players showing what they can do while new signing Kendall Williams also showed the fans glimpses of the inclusive and instinctive play that he is capable of.”
For Garvey’s Tralee Warriors Dusan Bogsdanovic and Keith Jumper top scored on 19 with Paul Dick on 18. Next up for Warriors is the first of four remaining road trips as they face Griffith College Swords Thunder at the ALSAA Sports Centre in Dublin next Saturday afternoon with an earlier than usual tip off time of 5.00pm.
DUBLIN COMING TO TOWN TO TAKE ON UNBEATEN KERRY: This will be a bumper early season weekend for Tralee with the Allianz League meeting of the unbeaten Kerry seniors and the All Ireland champions Dublin. When the League fixture came out this was always going to be a much anticipated clash.
Kerry fans would have been a little nervous wondering how Peter Keane’s reign would have started before they took on the side that will be chasing the elusive 5-in-arow of All Ireland titles later in the summer.
However they need not have worried as Kerry have made a great start under the new regime and have 4 points on the board so they will be able to take on Dublin without any real pressure.
From a Tralee point of view it’s a big weekend with over 12,000 tickets sold for the game which will see the new Shed end at Austin Stacks Park being used for the first time. The Chamber and the towns businesses are putting in a big effort to get the fans to spend in the town. It will certainly give a great early season boost to the tills. Last weekend saw the Kerry hurlers going down in Tralee and the Ladies drawing their first League game
under their new management the League season is in full swing. Now all we want it three wins at the weekend – is that too much to hope for?
U19 LEAGUE OF IRELAND SQUAD NAMED:
It is hard to believe that in just over 2 years Kerry soccer has progressed at a level where there is now 4 League of Ireland squads representing the county. The 13’s and 15’s management will sign their player players in the coming week while the 19’s squad for their debutant has just been announced. The Kerry District League who oversees the 19’s and the management had a tough task in picking the squad from all those who attended the trials.
The successful players are: Aaron Ward, Shane Jordan, Adam Ward, Seb Vassiu, David Oba and Jordan Barry – all St Brendan’s Park. From Tralee Dynamos are Dillon Robinson, David Rogers, Tony Duggan, Patrick Dowling, Cody Dauti and Tennyson Efegbare. Also on the squad are Brian O’Regan from Fenit Samphires, Alex O’Connor from Killorglin, Eoin Moynihan, Killarney Athletic, Ronan Cahill, Broadford Athletic, Boki Nikic Inter Kenmare, Jack Sheahan, Listowel Celtic, JR Tshikota, Dingle Bay Rovers and Liam Milner unattached.
The 19’s and the other three League of Ireland sides will get their campaigns underway next month.
MUNSTER LEAGUE OF IRELAND WOMEN’S SIDE MEET IN TRALEE:
The FAI Women’s Continental Tyres League of Ireland has gone from strength to strength over the last few seasons. Kerry soccer fans will have a chance to see the women’s game being played at the highest standard when Cork City Women and Limerck FC Women meet in Mounthawk Park on Sunday February 17th at 2pm. The coaches from these teams will also put on a training session for the Leagues girls teams after the game which will also be a great opportunity for coaches to come along and watch this.
ACTION AT THE TRACK:
At the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on Friday night there is a 12 race programme which will include 8 races from last Friday’s abandoned meeting plus the final of the Kingdom Stadium Novice 325 yards and the two semi-finals of the Bobby Hickson Memorial. There is no racing on Saturday night with the action in Sunday’s SIS programme starting at 6.35pm. There will be no qualifying trails next Monday or Tuesday night after racing due to the Clonmel Coursing meeting. The final session of unrecorded and recorded trials take place next Friday in preparation for the GMHD.ie Juvenile Classic which starts on Friday February 15th with entries to the Racing Office on 061 448057.
TRALEE BOXERS PART OF KERRY SIDE AGAINST LIMERICK: Limerick is one of the top boxing counties with big clubs like
Rathkeale, St Francis, Corpus Christi, South-side and Our Lady of Lourdes. A Kerry selection at Boy 1 took on their Limerick counterparts with many of these young boxers pulling on the Kerry shirt for the first time. While taking to the South-side ring was daunting the Kerry boxers acquitted themselves very well and were unlucky to go down 4-5 to a strong Limerick side who often spar three or four nights a week. The Kerry boxers are looking forward to their return leg when Limerick come to Tralee.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS REMINDED OF SPAR CLOSING DATE:
The FAI have asked us to remind all the primary schools in the Tralee area that there are just 2 weeks remaining for schools to sign up to the Spar 5’s programme. The closing date is Friday February 15th with the county series of blitz’s run by RDO Darren Aherne. At the moment 1,184 schools have registered with over 40% of girls taking part.
TRALEE INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S GAMES SET FOR RUSSIA:
There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes by Mike Culloty and the Tralee International Children’s Games committee. They will be sending a team of 18 athletes to Ufa in Russia in July. Tralee, and Kerry, will be represented in soccer, judo and track & field.
The Committee will hold a launch with the parents, athletes and coaches on February 22nd at the Education Centre in Dromtacker at 7.30pm with more details to follow.
LOUSIE LEADS IRELAND WOMEN’S 7’S TO BEST EVER FINISH:
Kerry’s Louise Galvin and her Ireland Women’s 7’s team claimed 4th spot in the Sydney 7’s tournament which was the best ever finish by the Irish girls in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. They went unbeaten through the Pool stages and then defeated Spain in the semi-final before losing out to World Series champions Australia. The USA just got the better of the girls in the battle for third place.
KERRY CAMOGIE IN SAFE HANDS:
