MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Anne’s mother Imelda is over 90 and has been told that she is in the early stages of Alzheimers disease. Anne and Imelda are wondering what they need to do legally for a time when Imelda may have no legal capacity to do anything.
The Enduring power of attorney is a great safety net for the above type of situation to provide authority for next of kin to act on their relatives behalf for their benefit should they lose legal mental capacity. These come into operation when a person becomes of unsound mind. It sets out who is in charge and what they are to do. They may be given control over finances and personal care/welfare. It gives power to attorneys to decide:
• where and with whom the Donor should live
• whom the Donor should see and not see
• what training and rehabilitation the Donor should get
• donor’s diet and dress
• inspection of Donor’s personal papers
• housing, social welfare and other benefits
• healthcare outside of life ending decisions. One or more than one attorney may be appointed
The signature of the donor must be witnessed by 2 people one of who must not be an immediate family member
A legal practitioner must certify that the donor understood the effect of making the EPA and has no reason to believe that the document is being executed as a result of fraud or undue pressure
A medical practitioner and another healthcare professional, must state that in his or her opinion the donor had capacity, as may have been given, E.to understand the effect of creating the EPA notice must be served on certain people at the time of signing of the EPA including spouse, co-habitant, children over 18, decision making assistants, co-decision makers, decision making representatives, designated healthcare representatives. All in all it is important that all of us do these enduring powers of attorney as they give a great safety net whether we develop dementia or Alzheimer’s, or we are put out of action by a stroke or coma from a road traffic accident.

Almost all GPs surgeries in Tralee are open from 9am to 6pm weekdays. Most run an appointment system which will avoid you being delayed and will allocate you appropriate time and the appropriate person to deal with your particular problem. If you have an emergency during office hours (e.g. tonsillitis, a severe headache, a sick child with a high fever, etc) phone your GP’s office early in the morning and you will be given a same day appointment urgently. It is best to see your own GP or a GP in your own GP’s practice as they will have access to your medical records including your medications, allergies and past medical history. If you think you may have a heart attack or a stroke it may be best to call an ambulance (dial 999) or go straight to Accident and Emergency Department of University Hospital Kerry.
If you have an emergency out of office hours (i.e. after 6pm weekdays, after 1pm Saturdays or all day Sunday) phone SouthDoc: 1 850 335 999.
The receptionist will take your details and a nurse will phone you back with an appointment. The advantage to this system is that you will be seen at the allotted time. The last thing you want when you are sick is to be waiting a long time in an overcrowded waiting room with other sick people. An efficient appointment system avoids delays.

In SouthDoc you are usually seen on time by a fully trained and experienced GP who will send a comprehensive report to your own GP the next day about your visit. If you have a Medical Card or Doctor Visit Card it will cover your treatment in SouthDoc only and not in other clinics.
SouthDoc in Tralee is located off the Killeen Road near Na Gaeil Football Club and on the road to the Tralee Pitch and Putt Club and Colis Sands House.

In case you havent noticed this week , there are Queues similar to before Christmas in GArveys Supervalu this week ...Why , because the Blues are coming to town next week as Kerry take on Dublin in the National League Football under lights in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening FEb 8th at 7pm .
And if you are quick , you could still nab a ticket for only €15 in advance of the game , if you are ready to join the queue in Garveys ! Reports from the accommodation sector in Tralee say that the
2 night packages are being snapped up by the East Coast supporters but there’s always room at the Inn in Tralee ! (and of course , we’ll give the overflow to Killarney !)
The publicans are playing their part also as the Vintners Association have already put in place late bar exemptions for all Tralee on the Saturday night .
Lets hope new Manager Peter Keane has his ducks in a row also ...heres looking forward to a cracking game and stopping that 5 in a row!

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport with special responsibility for Tourism and Sport in Kerry, Brendan Griffin, visited Kerry College of Further Education last week to hold an interactive talk with students . The aim of this talk was to inform students of the importance of tourism and recreation in Kerry and inspire them for their future career. The event was attended by, among others, the Tourism with Business students at the college. This is the second year that the course has been offered and is growing from strength to strength. Tourism in Ireland, particularly in Kerry, is a fast growing industry. Visitor spend in Ireland had increased by
8.5% in the first half of 2018 compared to 2017. With this figure likely to increase, there is no better time to apply for a tourism and business course in Kerry College of Further Education.
Minister Brendan Griffin has had a very positive influence on the tourism sector in both Kerry and Ireland during his time in office. He launched the Kerry Destination Brand in 2017 and the 2019 Irish Tourism Industry Awards. He also facilitated the BBC in filming an episode of TopGear in 2016. This generated worldwide publicity for the Wild Atlantic Way and showcased the stunning scenery of County Kerry.

If You own a laptop or a desktop and nd its very slow, it’s time to upgrade to an SSD if you’re still using a mechanical hard drive in your computer. An SSD is the single biggest upgrade you can give your computer, and prices have come down dramatically. Solid-state drives are so much faster because they don’t have a spinning magnetic platter and moving head. After upgrading, you’ll be amazed at the performance improvements and wondering why you waited so long. I can upgrade your laptop or Desktop from €150. Its cheaper than buying a new one.

Question:
Hi , I started eating healthier this January as I need to lose four stone and I’m nding it hard to stay motivat ed and stick to my diet. I keep snacking on bad foods and my weight keeps yo-yo’ing up and down and I feel like I’m getting nowhere. Help ... Michael , Killorglin
Answer:

Okay Michael, asking for help is the rst step. It can be hard to stay motivated but once you start seeing results you’ll nd it easier to stay consistent with your diet.
• Firstly, are you sure your diet is right for you? A good meal plan is one with foods you enjoy and can stick to following without constantly breaking your diet.
• Make sure you eat enough. A common mistake is cutting your food drastically which leads to binging. Have enough calories to be healthy but make sure your in a calorie de cit for weight loss.
• Adding in some exercise will also create a greater calorie de cit, help you tone up and improve your health and tness levels.
• There is no such thing as ‘bad foods’ only everything in moderation. Right now with four stone to lose you do need to limit processed foods, takeaways, sweets, biscuits etc.
• Include healthy snacks in your diet to allow you to satisfy your cravings without sacri cing your results for fat/weight loss. Snacks such as fruit and yoghurt, dark chocolate, rice cakes with peanut butter are some good alternatives.
• Feeling overwhelmed? Contact an expert to design a customised food plan to ensure you get the results and the support you need. Never use someone else’s “diet plan”, get one tailored exclusively for you, what worked for them may not work for you....

I hope you’re all having a fantastic week!
As January is coming to a close, this week I want to talk about something important.
I know every week I talk about how it’s great to be fit and healthy with regards to your physical body... And it is, in a perfect world. But this week I’m going to focus on another aspect of your health that it’s important to take care of, your mental health and being happy in yourself.
The next time you find yourself scrutinising something that you think is “wrong” with your body. Maybe focus on the person and soul inside your body, other than aesthetics. Being a size 6 or 16 doesn’t determine who you are as a person and how healthy you are.
Like everyone, I’m not happy 24/7. I have struggled with body issues, image issues and everything in between. I have finished school only to come out of two separate college courses, because I wasn’t happy in either of them. It took a lot to get to where I am now. Stay positive, a positive mindset always helps.
When you are stuck in something in life that makes you that unhappy, be it a job, living situation, college course, or relationship, it is

always best to take a step back and put you and your mental health first. Because if you don’t, trust me, nobody else is going to do it for you.
Talk about it. It doesn’t matter to who, just let someone else know how you’re feeling. You never know they might have the perfect solution, or at least they might make you feel a bit better.
Exercise, even if it’s just going for a walk. It helps clear your head and overall you’ll feel better.
If you are upset about anything, don’t try hide it or play it down because of someone else’s opinions. It’s your life and if something is upsetting you, it’s ok to be upset. Once you know ways in which you can cheer yourself up again.
For any of you out there feeling overwhelmed because you don’t know what to do with your life or you can’t pick a college course or you’re confused as to what to do by a situation, remember, no one has all the answers. Not even the most intelligent successful person you know. Everyone just takes it one day at a time. So don’t feel anxious or pressured into doing anything if you feel it’s not for you.

It’s your life, make a conscious decision to be the happiest, most positive person you can be. Try not to sweat the small stuff! Life is too short to have a miserable time because you’re ‘being good’ or ‘watching your calories’. It’s all about balance, you can count calories and ‘be good’ on a night in!

Restore your smile, your chewing ability and your confidence in just one day. Teeth in a day is a proven, revolutionary dental treatment for a patient that is missing all their natural teeth and who is tired of wearing an ill fitting and often sore denture.
While there are many options available to people who struggle with an ill-fitting denture, our “Teeth in a Day (Implant Supported Bridges) offer you the chance to throw your denture away for good and feel the benefits of never having to worry about dentures again.

• New teeth in just one day.
• Natural looking teeth.
• You will experience an improved ability to chew. and taste food.
• Retain your natural face shape and smile.
• Keep your teeth in your mouth – not in a glass.
• Speak freely and comfortably.
• Protect healthy jaw bone.

TEETH IN A DAY IS NOT ONLY THE LEAST TIME-CONSUMING TREATMENT OPTION, BUT ALSO THE LEAST COSTLY IN COMPARISON WITH CONVENTIONAL IMPLANT TREATMENT.

• The size of prosthesis within the mouth will be much smaller. Unlike a denture, it will mimic natural teeth.
• Enjoy life without worrying about your teeth.

Located in the heart of Tralee, Bridge Place Dental Practice has been revolutionising the way in which dental treatment is provided since 2006. Principal dentist Dr Colm O’Loghlen is an experienced implantologist.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a a tooth or are missing all their teeth.
Dentistry is in Colm’s DNA. Colm’s father Dr. Colm O’Loghlen Snr practiced dentistry for 40 years in Tralee before retiring nearly three years ago. After studying his undergraduate in UCC Colm then completed his postgraduate training in the UK.
Bridge Place Dental is a team of 16 which includes five dentists, one trainee dentist and two dental hygienists. The Practice is spread over 3 floors, there are 5 state of the art spacious dental surgeries, a hygiene surgery, an Invisalign suite and a treatment co-ordinator suite. Colm invests heavily in the most advanced technologies. Bridge Place Dental Practice is one of only three dental practices in Ireland who provide treatment using a dental laser. Colm has a Master’s Degree in Restorative Dentistry, his passion is implantology and he is qualified to administer IV sedation for those who have a fear of the dentist or to make complex procedures more comfortable for patients.

Tom: “At the start I was very apprehensive about doing the procedure. I am thrilled I went ahead with it. I have never looked back since and I am delighted with my natural looking smile. “
“
Mike: “I would highly recommend Bridge Place Dental Practice and I would highly recommend the “teeth in a day” treatment. I can go to a restaurant and order what I like without worrying about loose dentures.”
Teresa: “I couldn’t speak properly with Dentures. With dental implants you do feel like they are your own teeth. “Getting Teeth in a day” I feel as though my confidence has been restored. Colm and his team have changed my life.”
Mary: “I am delighted with my new smile. I would do it all over again in the morning. I was so happy to throw away all my tubes of Fixodent! My family said that I am a lot more outgoing since I got the procedure done. I will be forever grateful to Colm and all the staff.”
This patient in his 50's had neglected his teeth for many years and the only option in the future was to remove the failling teeth. The thoughts of dentures terrified the patient, therefore he opted for Teeth in a Day.

Have you heard Colm on Radio Kerry
“Ask the dentist with Deirdre Walsh”
Tune in this Monday and hear Colm discuss all things Implant related.

This week I’m going to be talking about something and I don’t really have a title or a way to phrase it. But I’ll just jump in and hopefully you’ll get what I’m talking about…
As a woman, the beauty industry can be a number of things - Amazing, Interesting, A Hobby, A Career… but also - Stressful, Confusing, Pressurizing.
There’s SO many products being thrown at us EVERYDAY to make us look “perfect”, “flawless”, “snatched”. There are hundreds of thousands of Instagram accounts of Makeup Artists who look this way.
Many women “won’t leave the house” without some form of makeup on. Not because they want to do their makeup, but because they don’t want others to see them without it.
I’ve realised many things, that Makeup shouldn’t be a mask or something you NEED to wear. For me it’s something I love doing. I put it on if I feel like putting it on, but I also have no problem going ANYWHERE bare
faced. I didn’t always have this mindset, remember, I grew up with acne - my life goal was covering that all up!
I realised also that photos you see… ANYWHERE, are art, not a representation of being “Perfect” or “Flawless”, because nowadays, photos are taken with professional cameras in good lighting and most of the time there’s at least 1 if not 47 filters on that photo.
I also realised, on the total flip side - that makeup shaming is a thing… “She wears too much”, “she’s not natural”, “she doesn’t look like that without makeup”... WHO CARES!! If someone wants to put time and effort into there face, who are you to judge it? Maybe Makeup is their way of expressing themselves? Maybe putting on their makeup with music blaring is their form of relaxing, blocking out the world. Or maybe they’re insanely talented? Why is that a bad thing?
My point is… nobody should be made feel

they can’t go somewhere without makeup or that they wear too much of it. If you spend your time worrying about someone else’s face, you need to find a hobby.
Just do whatever feels right for you, do a full glam if you want, go bare faced if you feel like it. Just try not to get down in yourself about someone who looks “flawless” on Instagram.
Confidence is literally one the most beautiful qualities a person can have. So once you’re doing whatever you’re doing because YOU want to and it makes YOU feel good, you’re doing it right!
BE YOUR OWN BIGGEST FAN.
I hope you all have an amazing week!

With the opening of a new state-of the art €19 million Kerry Sports Academy and the proposed establishment of the Munster Technological University (MTU), there’s never been a more exciting time to work and study at IT Tralee. The Institute of Technology Tralee will offer over 50 full time undergraduate courses for CAO entry in September 2019. The programmes cover a diverse range of disciplines including Creative Media, Software Development, Business, Nursing, Social Sciences, Health & Leisure, Engineering, Wildlife Biology, Agricultural Science and Pharmaceutical Science. The Institute ensures that its students are at the core of its activities with a dedicated team of student support services, while the town of Tralee offers high quality recreation and leisure facilities. projects, which allow students to experience authentic work scenarios. This experience results in work-ready graduates.
Brid Mc Elligott, VicePresident, for Research, Development and External Engagement, said this week that the work-placement element of all Honours Degree courses is one of the reasons for the growing interest in attending the institute. “Work experience combined with the curriculum delivered by our committed and dedicated academic team ensures that the graduates of the IT Tralee are work-ready, with over 90% of our honours degree graduates securing work or pursuing further education opportunities such as Master or PhD studies within six months of graduating.” Nationally, IT Tralee is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland to share a campus with a technology park, leading to significant job opportunities for IT Tralee graduates. Pharmaceutical packaging

company Central Pharma recently announced that they are to create 100 jobs over the next five years. These jobs will be based at the IDA’s newly constructed Advanced Technology Building at the Kerry Business Park in Tralee, which shares a c.45 hectare campus with the Institute of Technology Tralee. Speaking on the announcement, Central Pharma’s CEO Alwyn Smit said that having the hi-tech building on the same campus as IT Tralee with its STEM faculty, played a major role in the company’s decision to locate in Kerry.Dr Oliver
Murphy, President of IT Tralee emphasised the importance of the creation of the Munster Technological University (MTU), which will see the merger of IT Tralee and Cork Institute of Technology. For further information about any of IT Tralee’s wide range of full-time and parttime programmes visit www. ittralee.ie and download the current prospectus or contact the Admissions Office at 066 7145638. Uncertainty has hit the Japanese banking industry. In the past week, Origami bank has folded, Sumo bank has gone belly up and Bonsai bank announced plans to cut some of its branches. Last week it was announced that Karaoke bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song while shares in Kamikaze bank were suspended after they nosedived.
Samurai bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja bank is reported to have taken a hit, but it remains in the black. Furthermore 500 staff at Karate bank got the chop and analysts report there is something fishy going on at Sushi bank where it’s feared staff may get a raw deal.

Germany is considering introducing an 80mph speed limit on its famous Autobahn motorwaysparking outrage among car lovers. The country’s decades-old motorway network is famous for ‘no limits’ sections where drivers can put even the fastest cars through their paces. But a leaked proposal, drawn up by a government committee on the future of transport, suggests officials are weighing up a universal speed restriction on the roads. Charged with coming up with recommendations on reducing the environmental harm caused by transport, the government committee also proposed fuel tax hikes and electric vehicle quotas to help Germany finally meet EU emissions targets. The proposals are proving controversial in car-mad Germany, one of the few countries in the world that doesn’t impose speed restrictions on its beloved Autobahn highways. The idea - still very much just a notion - would limit speeds on the country’s highways to 80 mph. Proponents say this would reduce air pollution, help fight climate change and reduce the number of car accidents. Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert sought to smooth the waves created by the leaked report, saying on Monday that a government-appointed committee examining various proposal isn’t finished yet. Germany could be hit with heavy EU fines if it fails to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and poisonous nitrogen oxides.
A speed camera van has been spotted parked near to the spot where the Duke of Edinburgh rolled his Land Rover in a horror crash, as the British Safety Council slams the royal for ‘setting a bad example’ after he was pictured not wearing a seat belt.
The ‘Safety Camera Team’ vehicle was parked up in a lay-by on the A149 close to the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The brightly marked van had a speed camera pointing out of the back aimed at passing cars travelling along the 60mph stretch of road. It appeared just days after Prince Philip, 97, escaped unhurt when his Freelander overturned after it collided with a Kia after he pulled onto the main road.
Chairman of the British Safety Council Lawrence Waterman said the threat of a fine for not buckling up, introduced as a deterrent, ‘clearly did not influence the actions of all drivers’ and blasted the Duke of Edinburgh for ‘setting a bad example’ to other road users.
There is no sitting on the fence when it comes to the Metro, a car originally intended to replace the Issigonis-designed Mini. Matthew Lynch, who has owned this splendid Applejack Green example since the start of 2018, says: “You get a lot of people coming up saying, ‘Wow, I had one of those as my first car’ or ‘I learnt to drive in one’ – and then the complete opposite reaction; ‘It was a [expletive] car then, and it still is’.”
Lynch confirms that his car is one of the few left from the first year of production. It is also, apparently, “the only one left in Applejack Green”.
Lynch also notes that the Metro “gained a reputation for being a pensioner’s shopping trolley that was only good to rust” – which is quite a contrast to the anticipation created by the advertising line of the “British Car to Beat the World” when it was launched in late 1980.
Of course, that same year also saw the Morris Ital unleashed on a public agog with indifference, for that was a museum piece as compared with the forward-looking Metro. Not even the slightly desperate (not to mention jingoistic) TV commercial could not quell the sense of excitement of this potentially world-beating product.
Metros appeared as Panda Cars in the uber-depressing soap opera Juliet Bravo, and of course the future Princess Diana drove an L.The range was facelifted in 1984, but by that point the market was dominated by the Fiat Uno and the Peugeot 205.
As a Standard version, the Lynch Metro is inevitably less luxurious than the Vanden Plas we featured last year; even a rear wiper and cloth trim were the preserve of the L and upwards. In the early 1980s, such limited equipment levels were par for the course and for your £3,156 you gained electric windscreen washers, a dipping rear view mirror plus seats “tailored in an attractive embossed vinyl”. Only 10 such poverty-specification versions are known to survive – and Lynch’s fascination with the Metro dates back to 2012. “One of my very good friends had two 1983 MG versions, and he let me take one for a spin. Being an impressionable teenager, I thought it was a great little car and have wanted one ever since.” Aside from the distinctive paint finish, Lynch especially enjoys the transmission for although customers were starting to complain about the lack of a fifth gear (and the venerable A-series pushrod engine had been around since 1951) he “loves the whine of the first gear” even if there is “a lot of travel across the ’box between second and third”. Nearly 25 years after the demise of the Metro name, Lynch believes that attitudes to the Metro are “changing now. Most people have good comments towards the car in person though, especially at the forecourt”. The Applejack Green example is “going to be a permanent fixture along with my MG ZT260 for summer use”. And who could resist a car with “seat belt and brake wear warning lights on a 1981 car – way ahead of its time”?

Question
I have ordered a few presents online. Can I return them if I change my mind when I get them?
Answer
If you bought your goods from a business based in the EU, they are covered by the EU Directive on Consumer Rights. Under this Directive, you are entitled to a cooling-off period of 14 days. During the cooling-off period, you can cancel distance contracts such as online purchases without giving a reason and without incurring charges or penalties, other than possible charges for returning the goods. The 14-day cooling-off period begins on the day that you receive the goods.
The distance seller must repay you for the goods including delivery costs within 14 days of cancellation,. If you chose a more expensive type of delivery than the seller’s cheapest standard delivery, you are only entitled to be refunded the cost of the cheaper delivery type. The seller can withhold the repayment until the goods are returned or until you supply evidence that you have sent the goods back. You must send the goods back within 14 days of informing the seller of the cancellation. You may have to pay for the cost of returning them. The seller must have informed you of these costs before you completed the purchase.
The seller should also have given you confirmation of the contract, as well as information on aftersales and guarantees, how to cancel the contract and a postal address for complaints. If the seller did not provide you with information on your right to cancel, the cooling-off period can be extended by 12 months. Some purchases are not covered by the cooling-off period. These include customised or perishable goods and bookings for transport or accommodation.
If you bought your goods from a business based outside the EU, they are not covered under the EU Directive. For these goods, you should check the terms and conditions on the website of the business you bought them from.

MERCY MOUNTHAWK GO DOWN IN DECIDER:

The u19 Boys A Schools Cup is the biggest prize at this level and Mercy Mounthawk deserve great credit in reaching the decider. However on the day they met a Gael Cholaiste Mhuire AG (better known as the North Mon) who probably just about deserved their win.
The Tralee side, coached by John Dowling who was assisted by Lydnsey Moriarty and Jimmy Diggins, were cheered on by almost 600 pupils and supporters who made the trip to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. And while outnumbered the North Mon supporters were also in great voice in the fully packed arena and from the start they were the happier fans.
Mounthawk were put under pressure from the off by their opponents who had four internationals in the squad. The Kerry schools International Daire Kennelly worked very hard all game where he was often double teamed. His scores and those of Leeroy Odiahi and Philip Corkery just about kept them in touch in the first quarter as they trailed 22-14. On the opponents side the Hannigan brothers James and Scott were a constant thorn in the Mounthawk side and every time the Tralee side looked to be making a run the Cork side hit big scores. At the half Mounthawk had battled very to be still in the game and were just 7 behind and scores from Kennelly and Fernane early in the third closed the gap. But in the second part of the third quarter the Cork boys hit a purple patch and hit 10 points without reply to open a 15 point lead.
Fernane, Bowler and Odiahi all hit scores to try and close the gap but they were still 12 behind entering the fourth quarter.
Mounthawk’s quest for this competition meant that they were never going to go down without a big fight and at the start of the fourth quarter they closed the gap to 8 points. A Corkery three narrowed the gap ever further and brought the Tralee crowd to their feet.
Everyone knew the next score was vital but sadly for Mounthawk it was James Hannigan that drained a huge three of his own and set his side on the course for victory. Even getting themselves into foul trouble was not enough for Mounthawk to close the gap and in the end the lost by 7.
This side have been a credit to the town and the county and their semi-final win over CBS The Green will live long in the memory off all that were in the Sports Complex. And with a number of the players underage again next year they will be back for another crack at the big one.
For the record the Mercy Mounthawk squad who reached the All Ireland final were: Raul Venczel 1, Daniel Fokseang, David Burke3, Philip Corkery 6, Aidian Mangan, Cian Devine, Oliver Hart, Tristan Raymond, Stephen Bowler 13, James Fernane 11, Daire Kennelly 19, Zygi Kaletka, Leeroy Odiahi 15, David Goreanskii. The Hannigan brothers combined for 53 points with James on 31 and Scott ending on 22.
John Dowling while disappointed was very proud of his charges. “On the day they just had a little too much for us and they made all their big shots while some of ours just rimmed out. But myself and the coaching staff could not have asked any more from the boys all year and they did themselves and the school proud. We still have the League to go for and many of these players will be available again next season so these continue to be exciting times for Kerry basketball on a number of fronts.”
GAA FANS ALL SET FOR THE NEW SEASON:
Kerry GAA fans will have this Sunday pencilled into the calendars for a number of months as it’s the start of the Allianz Leagues. While the hurlers have already seen action in the Munster League the
footballers will be making their debut in the Peter Keane regime. Pre-season in football and hurling in Kerry are mirror images. While the hurlers would never be expected to win the Munster League the opportunity to play against the likes of Limerick and Tipperary will certainly have brought on the team. Even up against second teams from the strong counties these sides will be stronger than any the will meet in the League. The hurlers are in Antrim for their opener which won’t be an easy start but one they can win.
For the footballers they don’t play in the McGrath Cup and concentrate on getting in their hard training sessions. The management have kept their cards close to their chest regarding their potential squad and indeed said that the League will be for looking at many players and options and probably the performances will be more important than the results. However that does not mean that they will not be going all out to win all their games and will want to get off to a good start against last year’s beaten finalists Tyrone in Killarney.
A lot of the preseason talk has been about the new rules with the 3 hand pass and kick not being brought forward but there will be lots of interest in the other rule changes.
It has been a great year so far on the club front with both Kilcummin and Beaufort into All Ireland deciders while Dr Crokes are only one game away from their trip to Croke Park. For Kerry fans the journey that will hopefully also end in Croke Park begins.
We wish Peter Keane, his backroom staff and all the squad all the best for the new season.
