Are we Microwaving our Planet?

On the 25th of January campaigners from all over Ireland and Kerry traveled to Dublin to take part in the Global Day of Protest against 5G. This peaceful protest commenced at 1pm outside the main gates of St Stephens Green where many campaigners and scientists gave talks on the health and environmental risks associated with RF radiation. Campaigners are worried about the impact 5G radiation exposure will have on public health, the environment and the planet as there are no scientific studies to prove it is safe. 5G is untested, unregulated and uninsurable..

The goal of the global protest is to stop the deployment of millions of 5G antennas on Earth and 50,000 5G satellites in space, and to secure emergency high-level meetings with officials in governments and international governmental

organizations including the European Union, the United Nations, and the World Health Organization.

The issue is microwave radiation, which has been steadily intensifying for over two decades courtesy of the wireless revolution. 5G will bring a huge increase in radiation, virtually overnight, everywhere—in cities, suburbs, parks, nature preserves, wildlife refuges, oceans, Greenland, and Antarctica. Instead of cell towers every few miles, there will be cell towers—small but powerful— in front of every third to fifth home. Instead of 2,000 satellites orbiting the Earth, there will shortly be 50,000.

Campaigner Mags O’Sullivan said “this protest was important to raise awareness about 5G and wireless radiation exposure and its associated risks to health, the environment and the planet”.

Mags stated that “a large proportion of the population are unaware that 5G has already been rolled out in cities and towns across Ireland” and she continued to say “there is a lack of awareness of the dangers and risks associated with chronic wireless radiation exposure”.

Mags is questioning why the Irish Government has given telecom industries free reign to deploy 5G without any public consent, public consultation or impact assessment. She says the Irish Government should

Big matches coming up for the Green CBS

be protecting Irish citizens especially children from 5G radiation exposure especially when there are no scientific studies to prove it is safe. The European REFLEX study (2004) was conducted on behalf of the EU by 12 institutions for a total budget of 3 million euros. The results show that prolonged radiation from a cell phone and its magnetic fields can cause significant biological damage in human cells and especially to the DNA.

Corn Uí Mhuirí (U19A) Munster: Tralee CBS will play Pobalscoil na Ráithe Móire in this all-Kerry Corn Uí Mhuirí (U19A) Munster semi-final at Staid Mhic Gearailt, Cill Airne, at 1pm ón Saturday. TV Star Dáithí Ó Sé Brings New Stage Show Home

One of Ireland’s most popular TV presenters and a Kerry man to boot, Dáithí Ó Sé, is about to premiere his brand new stage show ‘Dáithí’s Rhyme with Reason’ in Kerry! His Kingdom of Kerry Tour will consist of three shows in Tralee, Listowel and Dingle this April and May. ‘Dáithí’s Rhyme with Reason’ will be a hugely entertaining panel show with plenty of fun, chat, music, special guests and even a number of ‘Limericks’ thrown in, all performed in front of a live audience.

Dáithí from West Kerry is best known as host of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and presenter of the Today Show on RTÉ One with Maura Derrane. Dáithí tells us that this show is something that he

has wanted to do for a long time and that away from the TV cameras it will be a little bit more risqué.

Speaking for the first time about the new show Dáithí said: “This is an entertaining stage show where two teams each consisting of two wellknown people battles it out to create the most hilarious Limericks that best describe the crazy news that I have just introduced. In other parts of the show we will meet a surprise celebrity guest for an interview with a difference, we will have plenty of audience participation and each show will finish by giving an up and coming act the chance to perform in front of a live audience. The show will be full on, funny and hopefully unforgettable for all the right reasons!”

“I have been working on this idea for a long time now and really wanted to launch it in my home County. I’m honestly so excited to get this show on the road and I have lined up some very special guests to be part of the first few shows. It will be really different to anything I’ve done before and if you fancy an escape and a few

If you have any further questions you can email Rebecca at rebecca. shortt94@gmail.com. Tickets are available on EVENTBRITE.IE, just search ‘Beyond Beauty Teenage Workshop’

laughs then I hope to see you on one of the nights.”

The first show will be at the Listowel Arms Hotel on April 25th with a hometown show in Dingle on April 26th. The following weekend Dáithí and guests will be at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee on

Friday May 1st 2020. With only three shows confirmed so far demand for tickets will be very strong, you can book right now through ticketmaster.ie or ticketweb.ie This will be an over 18’s show.

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

I hope you’re all having an amazing week.

This week we’re talking all things face masks. I love a good face mask, I think they’re a fantastic way to treat yourself and your skin. Here are my current go to masks… I’m more of a clay/gel/cream mask gal than a sheet mask one. I just find sheet masks don’t seem to work as well for me, so that’s why you won’t see any mentioned. All the brands below can be used on any skin type. All theses masks are multiple use masks that come in a jar, they’re my favorite kind!

Sand and Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask €47

- I first tried this years ago and I have recommended it ever since! I find it so good for my pores. The Australian botanical infused super-powered 4-in-1 formula tightens pores, invigorates a dull complexion and instantly boosts radiance. For oily skin use 2-3 times a week. For dry or sensitive skin use 1-2 times a week.

• Suitable for all skin types

• Targets dull skin, oiliness/shine, skin congestion, blemishes and uneven skin texture

• Minimises appearance of pores/imperfections

• Evens skin tone/hyperpigmentation

• Creates glow

• Aids skin renewal/restoration

• Key ingredients: Retinol/Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Pink Clay

• Does not contain: Silicone, parabens, phthalates, sulphates

• Cruelty free

• Suitable for vegans

Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment €49

Sand and Sky Australian Emu Apple Super Bounce Mask €60

- This face mask deeply hydrates, brightens and protects the skin for a megawatt glow in minutes!

• Packed with super-potent antioxidants

• Enriched with Kakadu Plum, the world’s richest source of Vitamin C

• Powerful free radical protection

• Cutting-edge blend of 5 types of Hyaluronic Acid

• 100% Cruelty Free

• No Sulfates, Silicones or Parabens

• Dermatologist approved

Trilogy Hydrating Jelly Mask €23

- Among the first of its kind in natural beauty, this cooling gel textured mask infuses skin with powerfully natural Hyaluronic Acid to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Rosehip Oil and Manuka Honey to deeply nourish, and Aloe Vera and New Zealand Kawakawa to refresh. My skin has been so dehydrated lately, using this has gave my skin a glow again! It’s cruelty free also, yay!

- With powerful Hyaluronic Acid, Coconut, Honey, and Ginger, this creamy mud treatment face mask restores and calms skin, leaving it hydrated and glowing. It’s amazing for anyone who suffers with dry skin, especially at this time of year! I used it a lot when I was on Accutane medicine for my skin and I found it amazing. Paraben-free, Sulfate-free, Phthalate-free, Soap-free, Siliconefree, Petrolatum-free, Mineral Oil-free

BEXBLAHFITNESS!

Hello strong people!

I hope you’re all having an amazing week.

Because last week I talked about Macros, this week I’m going to talk about having a healthy relationship with food.

A healthy relationship with food is actually something that few people have. Growing up I was never happy with my body really, I was always on some form of ‘diet’, I would fluctuate loads! I thought of certain foods as ‘good’ and ‘bad’. I had a bad relationship with food.

Now, I’m pretty certain in saying I have a good relationship with food - no foods are ‘banned’ from my meals, I know what foods to eat in order to fuel my body properly and I don’t see any food as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Because I love going to the gym and working out, I know what kinds of foods will fuel my body so that I can have the most energy possible and benefit from my workouts.

If I really feel like a certain food - I have it. Simple as.

But I didn’t just wake up one day and have this mindset and attitude, a few years ago I was eating whatever I felt like too - but my meals consisted mostly of dominos, chinese, chocolate, high calorie, low nutrition, high sugar, high salt foods. It’s a process. I first had to learn all about food and nutrition and what nutrients and macros your body needs. There was a period when I first started to get myself together that if I felt like a certain food I didn’t eat it, because I had to get my nutrition right first.

So I get it, you can’t just ‘eat what you

Rebecca

want’ - because some days we all just want to comfort eat, and that’s not beneficial either. I guess that having a good relationship with food is eating what you know your body needs, but not depriving yourself either.

• BREAD IS NOT BAD

• CARBS ARE NOT BAD

• FAT IS NOT BAD

• CHOCOLATE IS NOT BAD

All of the above foods won’t ‘make you fat’ unless you eat them in excess amounts, but that applies to every food.

If you’re doing a certain diet at the moment for a ‘quick fix’ or ‘fast results’ - sorry, but you do not have a good relationship with food. These diets may provide quick weight loss, but what you might not realise is, that weight is mostly made up of muscle and water weight - not actually fat. Those diets also totally mess up your metabolism and therefore when you go back to ‘eating normal’ you will put on weight quicker than before. It’s a vicious cycle.

If you feel like you’re a bit lost when it comes to nutrition and food, or that you have a bad relationship with food, don’t fret.

Get yourself in contact with a reputable nutritionist, or a personal trainer who is qualified to give nutritional advice (some are not).

I personally recommend Recalibrated Bodies for nutritional plans, they

are amazing. Both Amanda & Daniel have so much knowledge on all things food and nutrition. If buying a nutritional plan isn’t in your budget right now, even follow them on Snapchat - @recalibratedb Facebook - Recalibrated Bodies or Instagram @ recalibratedbodies - they’re always giving out amazing free information!

Hope you have a great week and I’ll be back next week with some more fitness related goodness!

Na Gaeil... All Ireland Club Champions!

What a journey it has been for the Na Gaeil Club to the capital and Croke Park last weekend. There was nobody left in Killeen and the greater Oakpark area as every man woman and child made their way to Dublin to support their beloved Na Gaeil in their historic first ever All Ireland Junior Club Final. A great night was had by all and rumour has it that the sing song carried on to the wee hours of the morning. Buses of enthusiastic fans travelled on the day of the

match with many more making their way by car and by train to ensure that the players on the pitch could clearly hear the Na Gaeil roar loud and clear.

What a feeling it must have been for the players and management to run out on the hallowed turf of Croke Park to the roars and cheers of their huge band of supporters.

Local lads pay respect to the late great Phil Lynott

Remarkably for the last 34 years , these 4 friends (Billy Lyons , Bernard Boyle , Liam Griffin and Timmy Prenderville ) have made the annual trip to pay their respects to their idol Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy ) who passed away on Jan 4th 1986. This year was different for 2 reasons , according to Billy .

“ Firstly Timmy was away so there were only the 3 of us and also Phil Lynotts Mother , Philomena , sadly passed away last June .

“We would always go back to the Lynott house and spend time with her , chat , have a toast to Phil ..She was a true lady , we will miss her “

“We always start at the graveyard in Howth where we would meet hundreds of fans from all over the world.

This year we met up with Graham , Philomenas nephew and reminisced a little .

Then its off to see Phils statue ,in Grafton st , outside Bruxelles Bar , which was Phils local.

HOW ONE COUPLE QUIT CIGARETTES AND BOUGHT A TESLA WITH THE SAVINGS

AN IRISH couple saved so much when they quit smoking they were able to plan to buy a new Tesla.Séamus Murray and his wife Susan reckoned they were spending €30 a day - that’s €210 a week - on cigarettes.Put it another way: a mortgage-dimension €840-a-month was going up in smoke. When they quit they put the money aside assiduously. And with the aid of an app Séamus no longer has, they monitored the savings. “You’d be amazed at how quickly it added up. Thousands and thousands of euro,” The money they saved permitted enjoyment of some great holidays. And they caught the electric-car bug big-time while on one of two cruises.

Séamus recalled how when they visited the Tesla store in Tampa, Florida a Scottish lady took them for a drive in a Model S.That was November 2015 but because it was a Model S, Séamus knew he couldn’t afford it.However, as soon as the smaller Model 3 was subsequently announced he put down his €1,000 reservation. The 3 was launched on March 31, 2016. Three years, five months and 29 days later he collected his brand new car at Tesla’s Sandyford outlet in Dublin. It is a real-life example of the difference between spending €30 a day on cigarettes and €30 a month on e-cigarettes. They had worked out that: “We could use the €30 per day we saved on cigarettes toward our Tesla fund. Between the day of the launch and September 28, 2019, I had accumulated approximately €40,000, plus some savings. “Between that, and a small credit union loan, we purchased a Model 3 Performance.”Since then they have been on several road trips, covering a total distance of 2,200km on their most recent drive to the UK.

The Supercharger network in Europe is outstanding and is constantly improving,” Séamus says.”So much so, that this coming August 2020 I’m planning a road trip to the Costa del Sol and expect to cover approximately 8,000km.” Séamus says owning a Model 3 all-wheel drive Long Range means he can drive anywhere in Ireland from his northside Dublin home without needing to charge.”As an EV driver, this is huge,” Séamus says.He also loves the software updates.

“The first one I received gave me the ability to watch Netflix and YouTube, plus multiple arcade games, when parked.”I’ve also received multiple updates which adds improvements to the car.”He says his car is constantly evolving and improving right in front of his eyes with “extremely practical and fun stuff”.Theirs is an ‘electric’ home, for sure. Susan has a Hyundai Ioniq electric vehicle as well. Both cars are used every day. They charge them at home on alternate nights (availing of night-rate charges): “We take it in turns.”The ESB bill for the first 30 days of charging both cars was €64.His advice for other electric-vehicles owners is: *ABC (Always Be Charging).*And: “Don’t let the range drop below 100km” if you can help it.(credit indo motoring )

NCT VEHICLE LIFT SECTION SUSPENDED

The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) has suspended part of its test with immediate effect due to serious safety concerns with its vehicle lifts. The decision comes just one day after MoT tests in Northern Ireland were cancelled after “signs of cracking” were found in almost 50 lifts. In a statement, Applus+, which is the operator of the NCTS, said it will discontinue the use of ramps across the network until a full condition survey of all lifts is completed. However, drivers due for an NCT will still be able to take two-thirds of the test, but will have to return and take the final part once the issue has been resolved. “NCTS were recently made aware of a defect with a similar make and model of MAHA lift. Following that information, condition surveys have been instigated. “All customers should continue to book and turn up for their NCT as normal.

The test will be completed with the omission of the underbody inspection, which will be conducted at a later date when the lifts are returned to use. “Customers will incur no additional costs as part of this process. Our priority at this point...is the safety of our staff and our customers’ property. We do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement read. Paul Duffy, chief executive of the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Northern Ireland, said this week that following further inspections of lift faults at MoT centres, the contractor had not provided sufficient assurances on the effectiveness of the ongoing repairs.(Indo motoring )

SELF-CHARGING HYBRID DEBATE CONTINUES !

We have been inundated with comments, suggestions and arguments on the public row between Toyota and Hyundai over the merits and otherwise of describing hybrids as ‘self-charging’. The debate continues apace. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, especially those to whom I have not been able to reply, for their comments. There was such an amount of stuff that it has been impossible get to all. Thank you. One thing that intrigued was how quickly people sent me a link outlining how the Norwegian Consumer Authority has banned a Lexus hybrid ad for use of the word ‘free’. It said: “In the Consumer Authority’s opinion, it is misleading to give the impression that the power to the hybrid battery is free of charge, since the electricity produced by the car has consumption of gasoline as a necessary condition: Regenerative energy will in all practical respects have consumption of gasoline as a necessary condition.” Meantime Toyota Ireland is citing Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) data to claim it is the “clear winner when it comes to reducing the CO2 output” from the top 10 car brands. It said: “Toyota’s CO2 output is the lowest, achieving 17pc lower emissions than the top nine other car brands in Ireland”.

We haven’t heard the end of this by any means.

* It arrives in the spring, but Land Rover is showing its new Defender (pictured) in the flesh in a visit to showrooms here starting Saturday. Prices start from €68,160 for the Defender 110 2.0 SD4 AWD automatic model.( Eddie Cunningham , Indo Motoring )

EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES! TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR

FAI IN-COMING PRESIDENT

FONDLY REMEMBERS

TIME IN TRALEE:

The changes at the highest levels of the FAI continue at pace with the new Chair and Independent Directors introduced to the Senior Council last Saturday. Also on that day there was an election for the position of President where Gerry McAnaney defeated Martin Heraghty 88-40.

Gerry has both family and work connections in Kerry and spends a lot of time with his wife’s family in Ballybunion. He was also in charge of the Barracks in Ballymullen as part of career in the Defence Forces where he oversaw a restructuring of barracks from Clare to Kerry.

Gerry told me that the Munster Bar was his local when he was in Tralee where he used to go to watch sports. “I enjoyed my time in Tralee and worked with some great people in the barracks and also made good friends in the town. And being involved in soccer for 40 years I know the contribution John Regan has made to the game and have been to the KDL’s grounds in Mounthawk on many occasions. Hopefully in the not too distant future I can visit the KDL and the Schoolboys League in my official capacity.

COMPLEX SET FOR FEAST OF KABB CUP FINALS:

The Tralee Sports Complex will have its roof raised on many occasions over the coming weekend when the always hotly contested Kerry Airport KABB Cup Final season gets underway.

There is action over the various ages in both boys and girls starting with one game on Friday night when TK Bobcats meet Gneeveguilla in the u14 Girls Cup decider. Both sides came through tough semi-finals with Bobcats defeating St Mary’s by 5 and Falcon pulling away late on to knock out the Wildcats. 5 Cup Finals on Saturday: The action on Saturday gets underway at 10am and St Brendan’s Tralee will have a busy morning. First up the face KCYMS Killorglin in the u18 Boys Cup final while following this at 11.30 it’s the u16 Boys decider with St Pauls Killarney the opponents for the Tralee boys. These are the top two sides in the League with St Brendan’s on 13 points from 5 games just ahead of St Pauls who are unbeaten in their 4 games. At 1pm the u18 Boys Plate final is between St Bridget’s and Caherciveen. St Brendan’s are in action again at 2.30 when it’s the u13 Boys Cup with TK Bobcats the opposition. The Tralee side

are unbeaten in the League with Bobcats on 2 wins from 4 played but the Cup is a one off so neither side will be taking anything for granted.

Tipping off at 3.30 is the u14 Boys Cup final and here it’s the clash of Rathmore Ravens and St Mary’s who have been the class side in the League winning their 9 games. The Rathmore boys have 4 wins from their 7 games and will come in confident after their 49-31 win over St Joseph’s in the semi-final. The second last game of the day will see another big crowd expected to be in the Complex for the 5pm start of the u12 Boys Cup final where Gneeveguilla playing St Mary’s. The East Kerry side saw off St Brendan’s while St Mary’s beat St Pauls. This is the ideal pairing for a cracking final as these are the top two sides in the League with St Mary’s 5 up but Gneeveguilla having a game in hand.

The game ends with a 6pm tip off for the u12 Girls Cup decider. Here it’s the Tralee – Killarney clash with Imperials versus St Pauls. Imperials got through in a low scoring semifinal over St Mary’s while St Pauls hit 42 against Falcons. St Pauls are undefeated in the League but this is the Cup and the Imperial’s girls will be well up for causing an upset.

4 GIRLS AND 2 BOYS CUPS DOWN FOR DECISION ON SUNDAY: The action on Day 2 begins with the two boy games. It’s a double appearance for TK Bobcats as they will take on St Paul’s in the u17 Boys final and then they face St Brendan’s in the u11 Boys Cup final.

The remaining four finals on Sunday are all Girls games starting with the u17 Girls final where it’s the battle of the ‘G’s’ Gneeveguilla v Glenbeigh. Both sides have only lost one game in the League so this is too close to call.

The u11’s finals always create a great atmosphere and it should be the same at 3pm when Cougars face Imperials. Meetings between these young sides are always close and this one probably be as well. The u16 Girls Cup final will see Kenmare Kestrels taking on Caherciveen. Many of this Kenmare side will have been on this week’s All Ireland schools Cup winning side so while they will be full of confidence that game went to overtime so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back. Caherciveen are just behind Kenmare in the League and will certainly be looking forward to this game.

The final game of a great weekend of basketball is the u18 Girls decider with the Killarney versus Tralee clash of St Paul’s v Imperials. Both sides won 6 from 7 in the League and both were impressive

in their semi-final wins so 5.30pm in the Complex on Sunday is the place to be.

Ex Tralee basketball player inducted into Hall of Fame:

The good news for Kerry basketball continued this week with the nomination of Caroline Forde as one of the four inductees into the sports Hall of Fame. From a basketball family Caroline was part of all conquering Blarney side in the 80’s but also enjoyed success with Waterford Wildcats and Lee Strand Tralee where she won a Super League, Cup and Top Four title. In that Cup win in 1983 she hit 22 points in a two point win over Naomh Mhuire. Caroline played over 100 times for Ireland including in two Olympic qualifying competitions.

ALMOST THE HAT TRICK ON THE NATIONAL FRONT:

much their moment in the sun. The presenting of the Cup to captain Eoin Doody by GAA President was a moment that will be long remembered.

The club put on a homecoming worthy of the All Ireland champions and the celebrations will continue over the next few months. Finally very few managers get out at the right time and often their careers end in defeat. But for the Na Gaeil management team of Donie Rooney, Richie Barrett, Kieran O’Shea and Eoin Joy have stepped down at the top of the game. Donie and Richie have been with the team for 4 years and have, like all management, had some heart breaks. But the squad believed in their vision that they had what the needed to win the big one and no everyone can bask in the glory of a dream campaign with the perfect finish.

It was a good weekend for the Kerry sides in action. Both the hurlers and the Ladies footballers got their campaigns off to winning starts. They both have ambitions of reaching the latter at stages their Leagues and win promotion and this was a good start for both. It will be interesting to see how important the draw in Croke Park against Dublin will turn-out to be by the time late August comes. There were many positives to take from the game but the squad and management won’t have had much time to reflect on it as they welcome Galway to Tralee this weekend. They have two points on the board and will be looking for at least a draw to put them in a very good early position. For Kerry, in a tight Division 1, winning the home games is vital so it will make for an interesting hour.

NA GAEIL MEMBERS LAPPING UP THE COVERAGE!

There will be a greater than normal demand for all the media publications in the Na Gaeil area this week as players, coaches and club members will be reading with joy the coverage of their All Ireland Club win. Busses of fans plus many in cars and trains headed to Croke Park for the All Ireland Junior final and watched with great pride their team running out onto the hallowed turf. At that stage no one knew what the outcome would be and even if they were beaten the supporters had the satisfaction of seeing them on the Croke Park pitch. But the team had other ideas and while they admitted afterwards they were a little wasteful in the first half they were ahead thanks to a goal from Ian McCarthy. It would be a dream day for him as he would end up with a hat-trick. Their Wexford opposition did get a life-line from the penalty spot at the end of the first half leaving it 1-08 to 1-04 at the break. But within 15 minutes of the second half the game was put to bed as the Tralee side took over. Those last 15 /20 minutes of the second half must have been a dream that the Na Gaeil people did not want to end. The game was won, the All Ireland title was heading back to Tralee and the management could run their bench giving those who have sacrificed so

For those who wish the relive the season a set of three DVD’s will be available in then next week from the clubhouse and will be an appropriate memento of the campaign.

Some of the sport’s biggest Irish stars, Sanita Puspure, Paul O’Donovan and Philip Doyle, competed and broke records at the weekend.
