THE sun came out to bathe the Altrincham Festival parade on the 1st July 2017. As festival fever took over the town, thousands of people lined the streets to watch the colourful parade and enjoyed the wide array of attractions at the showground. Altirncham festival was a great day thanks to Steven Taylor, Simon Buffey, Andreia Soares & Dale Farnell. They were engaging with so many people with the new canopy they set up, with several fun sport and fitness challenges and lots of giveaways for the public to enjoy.

So the office move has finally taken place for the support team based at Marsland House, and what a great team effort led by Kevin Henderson to make this happen. Photos of what our office looks like now can be seen later in the Interest Newsletter but the team of 16, including myself have all settled in and we are getting used to being completely open plan. We have taken this office suite until next year (the end of October 2018), and during this time as the centres start to be developed we can see what space we will need for support teams, training, meeting and flexible space.

It hasn’t just been the support team that has been on the move, the golf team have been busy moving the existing shop, lockers and staff facilities down to the driving range which is already proving to be a popular decision. Paul and the team have installed new footpaths, creating new customer journeys and remodelled the course to introduce the starting of the course at the driving range but also the flexibility to play 9 holes. A Job well done to the team at the Golf! Communication has started to be shared with regards to the development of the centres and the closure of George H Carnall. A lot of rumours, gossip and speculation have caused some unrest in the Urmston M41 postcode area over the last few weeks. I understand that with change does come worry and concern but I feel once we have confirmed homes for all of the current users at George H Carnall and people can see the exciting plans for the remodelled Urmston site our local residents will be very happy. To ensure communication continues, with regular updates coming direct from myself and the senior team we have appointed “champions right across the business” to ensure they can feedback any questions you have (FAQs now set up on the shared drive) and also relay any news / updates for all. Your development champions are: Jason Denton, Dale Ward, Danny Norris, Phil Davies, Kelly Cooke, Lisa Whyte, Sally Darke and Vicky Connor.

The physical activity referral continues to grow and is starting to gain interest from other local authorities and partners as to what the team at Trafford Leisure are doing.….. We have now had 650 referrals that have paid the £20 and taken part in 8 weeks of physical activity which is fantastic and with the exception of just 3 GP surgeries in Trafford all of our local GPs are referring into our physical activity referral programme. Stretford has also got an agreement in place now with the mobile vans so really looking forward to seeing the impact of this. The Board has made the decision to invest further, with technology that makes the referral from the GP to us paperless with the ability to track results and Emma Thomas has placed the order for this in the last few weeks. Have you all seen the great achievement of one of our customers at Sale, Sue Adam? Sue came through the physical activity referral and has lost an incredible 5 stone since she has been attending the centre and is now being given the go-ahead for her much needed hip replacement surgery. Check out the Facebook coverage on Sale Leisure Centres page. School Swimming and the Coaching Programme - some really great work from people within both of these areas in the business. With the exception of just two schools in Trafford (and we think one is just running late) all the business is secured for school swimming for the new year ahead starting in September. Well Done! The coaching programme breaks records for the coming year, with the same business being secured as we have done this year, alongside new orders with a value of £21k. Great effort from Sue, Lisa and the team! Michael Carrick recently visited the Sports Barn in Old Trafford as part of his testimonial celebrations. Jon and the team have heard directly this week that the session with Man Utd was his favourite session and he has decided to fund the session on-going as he can see the difference the session is making. Finally, our first statutory accounts for the 18 month period ended 31 March 2017 have been finalised and signed by the Directors of the Board at the July Meeting. The operating profit for the 18 month period before tax and pension scheme adjustments came out at £15k. This is an absolutely fantastic result and the Directors of the Board are very pleased with all the hard work and achievements carried out by all. They know it hasn’t been easy, we have achieved so much in quite a short period of time. We are the first CIC or Trust in Greater Manchester to have been operating for 12 months now without any subsidy or funding from the local authority. I am extremely proud, well done and we will celebrate properly later in the year. Thank you.

As I work with such a great team at Sale it makes me confident that we are doing a fantastic job. Bio: I was Born in Whitehaven in 1974 where I grew up until I was five years old with my two brothers and my parents. Then we moved to Amsterdam where my father had a building company. We then moved back to Cumbria a few years later where I went to Saint Benedicts High School. When l left school I went to college to be a hairdresser and then I went back to train as a chef. Hobbies & Interests: My interests are going on as many holidays as I can and good nights out and in with good friends. I also love gardening

Best Place I’ve been abroad: – I went on a cruise in 2016 and it took me to some fantastic places like Barcelona, Monaco, Rome, Santa Renée, Capri, Florence, Sicily, Turkey, Mykonos and Athens. So it’s a hard decision but the most romantic place has to be Venice. Dream Job: Over the years I’ve had fourteen jobs ranging from having my own ice cream van to being a head chef at Sellafield in Cumbria and then when I moved to Manchester in 2001 I worked in hotels and call centres and for Gary Rhodes, so I’ve done my dream job but I feel settled at Sale Leisure and am looking forward to what’s to come with Trafford leisure. 3 words to describe me: Loyal, Daft and Trusting.

My level 1 swim teaching course was funded on behalf of the ASA, following this I was offered contracted level 1 hours at Urmston. After working for the company for over a year, I was offered the opportunity to qualify as a level 2 teacher and my NPLQ by the Trust.

My interest in swimming stemmed from a young age when I swam for the Swim Trafford team. We would train up to 20 hours a week in the pool therefore Stretford Leisure Centre became my second home. Upon beginning my gap year, I was offered contracted lifeguarding hours at Partington Leisure Centre. I work various hours every day, often relying on overtime to work a double shift of 16 hours. By working many hours, it funded my volunteer programme in South Africa where I would be coaching sports in the township schools where sport isn’t compulsory. It was an eye opening experience because it highlighted how privileged and lucky I was growing up with so many opportunities.

The most rewarding aspect of swim teaching is seeing how the children progress through the stages, especially if one child has overcome their fear of water or learnt to swim without armbands. I thoroughly enjoy working with the swim teaching team at Urmston, the team are always positive and have a strong spirit when we work together.

Outside of work, I have aspirations to travel as much as possible. I enjoy cross country and athletics training at Sale Harriers. Food is one of my favourite passions especially shredded duck, pain au chocolats and apples. I always appreciate when the staff leave their takeaway leftovers for me. My current plan is to work for the company on a casual basis whilst I attend the university of Sheffield to study psychology in September.

Trafford Leisure will receive £40,000 over the year to support 100 5-13 year olds with their families, to become more active. Despite only launching the sessions a few weeks ago, the team has already received 42 referrals. A review meeting with the commissioner will take place next week following the first quarterly submission. Bio: I was Born in Whitehaven in 1974 where I grew up until I was five years old with my two brothers and my parents. Then we moved to Amsterdam where my father had a building company. We then moved back to Cumbria a few years later where I went to Saint Benedicts High School. When l left school I went to college to be a hairdresser and then I went back to train as a chef. Hobbies & Interests: My interests are going on as many holidays as I can and good nights out and in with good friends. I also love gardening

Best Place I’ve been abroad: – I went on a cruise in 2016 and it took me to some fantastic places like Barcelona, Monaco, Rome, Santa Renée, Capri, Florence, Sicily, Turkey, Mykonos and Athens. So it’s a hard decision but the most romantic place has to be Venice. Dream Job: Over the years I’ve had fourteen jobs ranging from having my own ice cream van to being a head chef at Sellafield in Cumbria and then when I moved to Manchester in 2001 I worked in hotels and call centres and for Gary Rhodes, so I’ve done my dream job but I feel settled at Sale Leisure and am looking forward to what’s to come with Trafford leisure. 3 words to describe me: Loyal, Daft and Trusting.

THE sun came out to bathe the Altrincham Festival parade on the 1st July 2017. As festival fever took over the town, thousands of people lined the streets to watch the colourful parade and enjoyed the wide array of attractions at the showground. Altirncham festival was a great day thanks to Steven Taylor, Simon Buffey, Andreia Soares & Dale Farnell. They were engaging with so many people with the new canopy they set up, with several fun sport and fitness challenges and lots of giveaways for the public to enjoy.
