‘And now we welcome the New Year, full of things that have never been.’ It can be hard to maintain the enthusiasm for New Year’s Resolutions months after your initial ‘New Year, New Me’ inspiration, but nothing is impossible! Here are some tips for your resolution to (hopefully) make things a little easier.

ISSUE 4 : JANUARY 2016 Making your time with Trafford Leisure that little bit more interesting

Make It Positive!

Be Specific!

Set yourself definite targets to aim for! Say ‘I will lose 10lbs’ instead of ‘I want to lose weight’.

How about ‘I WILL eat more fruit’ instead of ‘I WON’T eat chocolate’? Instead of feeling deprived, you will just feel good about doing that little bit extra for yourself.

New Year’s Resolution Tips Tell People!

Sharing your resolution with others can make you more determined to achieve your goals.

Be Realistic!

Don’t resolve to run a marathon if you’ve never even run 5k! Setting achieveable goals makes you more likely to succeed.

Good luck and here’s to a healthy and happy 2016! FACT OF THE MONTH This year, you could reuse calendars from the years 1932, 1960 and 1988. Your 2016 calendar will be reusable in 2044, 2072 and 2112!

Neil Staff Profile

Of The Month Roles and responsibilities: Operating Stretford Sports Village Chester Site on a day to day basis, ensuring the Centre runs at its highest ability with all the members/ guests and ensuring they have the best visit possible. I deal with challenges every day from public enquiries to (hopefully rare) emergencies. Working with Mark Pearson, my Duty Manager, we make a strong team and provide the best service for everyone! Bio: Originally from Buxton, Derbyshire, my background is quite the opposite of healthy living and exercise. At 18 years old, studying Film at college, I weighed over 23 stone and eventually thought enough was enough. After completing my first Fitness Instructor qualification I have now lost 8 stone, completely changing my lifestyle habits for the better. My career in Health & Fitness has lasted 7 years so far and at 24 years of age there’s still plenty more to come. My qualifications include Level 4 Personal Trainer in Obesity & Diabetes Management and GP Exercise Referral. Working in different jobs, roles have included leisure attendant, working my way up to Head Personal Trainer and Fitness Studio Manager. However Trafford Leisure has definitely been my favourite employer so far! June 2016 will be the biggest summer of my life by getting married to my fiancée Grace. We met at a fancy dress party with Grace as a zebra and me a rather impressive Flamingo!

Moss

Senior Leisure Assistant Stretford Sports Village Hobbies and interests: I am very big in weight lifting and functional exercise, and if I’m not at work I’m always in the gym multiple times a week (especially now after Christmas and New Year!). Thinking about new exercises and different muscles in the body is what I enjoy; Grace hates it when I ask her to try new exercises at home! Favourite film: I’m a massive Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro fan, which includes Raging Bull and Casino, but my overall favourite film is GoodFellas - full of violence, different stories about the mafia and great acting from Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci as well! Best place I’ve been to abroad: I absolutely love the USA and Italy. It’s tough to pick between Rome and New York, maybe go in between for Little Italy in the Big Apple? Both cities have loads to see and do including the Vatican, Empire State Building, the Colosseum and Statue of Liberty! Not forgetting about all the food and drink though! Dream job: My ultimate job would be to open my own state of the art Gym and Fitness centre, helping people achieve all their targets/goals! An even better benefit would be after it shut at night I could have my own private gym! (None of the cheesy music though!)

Access to discounted gym membership rates across a network of over 2000 gyms. Online health

European Cover You’ll receive these benefits (excluding Employee Assistance Programme) for stays up to and including 28 days, on business or pleasure, wherever you are in the EEA and Switzerland. Free Helpline Your plan gives you access to a free confidential helpline to advise you on health and lifestyle issues, as well as an over the phone counselling service. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed by calling 0800 975 3356.

Introducing your new payroll manager...

Future...

Congratulations

After 10 years of ensuring that we have all been paid every month, Chris Kirkham left Trafford Leisure at Christmas to embark on a new career in the building and construction industry and his role as Payroll Manager and HR Administrator has been taken over by Caroline Barton, who has been working alongside Chris since October to ensure a seamless handover.

to Christina Joyce, who has passed her CIMA professional qualification!

You should all now be fully aware of the dates that have been set for you to come and join your Manager and colleagues to discuss our updated Vision 2020 Strategy. I really want your comments and feedback on the draft corporate strategy that has been produced by your Leadership Team. To be

Well done Christina!

‘After living in Spain for six years with my two daughters and running two restaurant bars I moved back to Manchester in 2011. I gained employment back in finance and progressed back into payroll. It has been an interesting four years since my return. I met my new partner, soon to be my husband. Paige and Georgia are doing really well. Paige moved back to live in Spain in August 2015 and is happy in her work as she is back with all her friends, and Georgia is working as a beautician and hairdresser. Myself, I started to work for Trafford Leisure in October. Mr Chris and all the staff have made me welcome and helped me settle into my new career. I look forward to working with everyone for many years to come and building good relationships with all.’

and the question I have for all staff is “Can every member of staff see how they will be able to help achieve our must score goals”.

Will’s Standing Strong! We’ve been sent this amazing photo of Will Partington standing for the first time since his motorcycle accident in September 2015. Claire, Will’s mother, said, ‘We are really proud of his resolve and sheer determination to move forwards further than any of the medical professions ever thought possible!’

I am sure that you will all wish Caroline well in her role at Trafford Leisure and we look forward to working with her for many years to come.

We all send Will our best wishes and support as he continues with his physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Good Luck Will!

Driving Forward into 2016!

Trafford Leisure is excited to announce that the company will be taking on a new facility in 2016! Altrincham Golf Driving Range will be handed over to Trafford Leisure in February 2016. We expect the driving range to be opening around the beginning of March. Although the facility is on the same site as Altrincham Golf Course, it has been managed as a separate private business for over 30 years. The facility does need some major improvements, but is a fantastic prospect for Trafford Leisure’s business! Golf Manager, Paul Murray, explained: ‘I am extremely excited about the opportunity to manage both the golf course and the driving range as one, being able to develop the complete golf experience for the people of Trafford and wider. Many golfers will know that the golf market has been hit hard in the UK over the last few years with the challenge of economy, lifestyles changing, and the good old British weather; operating both these facilities hand in hand with our course in Flixton will just strengthen the sport of golf in the community of Trafford for the long term. Development Plans are already underway for the new provision and Trafford Leisure is committed to providing first class golf tuition and practice facilities to the people of Trafford. Making golf accessible for all will become far more realistic and our company ethos will ensure that we focus on increasing participation for all sections of the community. We can take the lead on beginner, female, junior and disabled participation opportunities, as well as impacting on the current levels of physical inactivity that exits in Trafford.’

Don’t miss out on your Simply Health Benefits! Altrincham Leisure Centre if I wanted to attend the team’s reception meeting. I would very much like to attend a department meeting or work for a few hours within a team on a monthly basis and although Diane was the first to ask me directly, really would welcome this from anyone. Attending Altrincham’s reception meeting was invaluable, yes they did have some nice treats (thank you), but the value was I got to see first-hand a team that really does care about the people who come into their centre but alongside this I got to listen to some of the challenges and issues that you currently face.

3 words to describe me: Determined, enthusiastic and entertaining!
