2025 was a year of remarkable accomplishments for TPD. From award-winning projects to company-wide recognition, we continued to set the standard for excellence in engineering. We took advantage of many opportunities to celebrate our accomplishments and enjoy each other's company, through various company-wide parties, our annual Quality of Life trip to the Santander Arena for the thrilling Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live show, as well as many volunteer events to help the communities that we serve, capped by our 12 Ways of Giving program.
TPD continued to grow in 2025, adding 48 new staff and 14 co-ops or interns. Our TPDers earned 6 EIT licenses, 5 PE licenses, 2 Masters Degrees and 1 Drone Pilot license to add to our resumes, all while completing over 22,000 hours of training and professional development. More than 600 proposals and agreements were submitted to help kick off over 500 new projects, making 2025 one of our busiest years yet!
Our Data Collection team was extremely busy with 4,297 traffic counts - the most in a given year, which totaled over 850 more than in 2024! Costco continued to keep Planning and other teams busy with projects in over a dozen states along the East Coast and ongoing due diligence for potential new developments in Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia. We partnered with Bohler on dozens of sites throughout New Jersey, New York and Connecticut to help support the expansion of their existing Walmart Supercenters, with a specific focus on expansion and improvement of their online order pickup areas.
The long hours and hard work certainly paid off as TPD was the recipient of several Best Places to

TPD opened its 15th office: Luzerne County Office (LCO) in Luzerne County, PA. The LCO will help serve our public and private sector clients and be a workplace for our staff in the Wikes-Barre/ Scranton area of PA.
Also, the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022 was implemented, an Employer 401(k) Match for Student Loan Payments. A Length of Service Milestone Bonus was introduced, based on staff feedback, to celebrate TPDers who have been with us for many
years. We transitioned Brokerage Services from World Insurance to Corporate Synergies Group and implemented a new Health and Safety Plan to help keep everyone inside the office and outside in the field safe. The TPD Strategic Planning Initiative was also launched with Morrissey Goodale to plan for and strengthen our company’s future to keep Moving Forward Together®.
TPD DEI evolved to TPD CARES and held a number of educational webinars and volunteer efforts, as well as created a new resources group: TPD EmpowHER. We launched the TPD Marketplace for staff to sell/trade or giveaway personal items, Benefits VIP, took a trial run with the Wellbees Fitness App, and hosted the Total Quality Initiative (TQI) Workforce Development Program for 27 participating interns from agencies, consultants and contractors at Pottstown for a second year.
Our IT Team kept busy, all while opening a new office and extinguishing our day-to-day technological fires. GIS and CADD subcategories were added to the TPD Helpdesk and Microsoft CoPilot integration was announced adding AI to our Office programs. GIS continued to be integrated into our project management for better visibility and tracking of projects. The EPINFO & Project Changes forms were updated to ArcGIS forms which populates all TPD projects on a map.
A massive 32TB of TPD’s active data was migrated from Projectwise to BOX, our new document management system and the Ctrl+Alt+Design Article was added to the BtL to provide users with the latest tools, resources, information, and opportunities to help us work smarter.
To look back on the events from this past year, visit TPD’s SmugMug page here.
As we move into 2026, we remain committed to innovation and delivering exceptional results for our clients and communities all while improving the work-life balance of our staff. Thank you to every team member for making 2025 a year to remember!
As always, any suggestions you have to improve our workplace, be it new benefits or suggestions, please do so via the Best Place To Work surveys and Suggestion Box

The IT Department at TPD continually looks for ways to simplify and improve workflows as needs evolve. Our current phone system, 8x8, was originally chosen for its ease of use, desktop apps, desk-phone support, and attendant console that allowed staff to personally field calls across all offices. While effective at first, desk phones have largely fallen out of use in favor of digital calling through Microsoft Teams. Over the past few months, the IT Department has evaluated this shift and is ready to fully embrace the new workflow. It is time to say goodbye to 8x8 in favor of Microsoft Teams External Calling.
In early March, users will gain the ability to dial out from their Teams devices to any external number. Anyone with a TPD account will be able to continue using the same direct inward dial (DID) number to anyone for direct calling to their TPD Microsoft account. These calls will move through Teams similarly to how calling an internal contact currently works. It will pop up on the desktop app, and users will be able to evaluate the caller ID on their screen while using their headset and mouse to accept or decline a call as normal.
For teams that are entirely mobile, this will be a great benefit. Providing direct company telephone numbers to vendors, subcontractors, and field office staff outside of TPD is a common occurrence on job sites. More use cases exist, such as contacts at networking seminars, recruiting events, clients, lenders, and any external person you may encounter through work where it makes better sense to provide a phone number rather than an email address.
Direct 4-digit internal extension numbers (i.e. 2260) will no longer be used, but Gwen Himes and Arlin
Rodriguez will still be handling reception of phone calls to our office numbers (which will be retained). If a client calls any of our office numbers and gets an operator, they will be able to ask for TPD staff by name or use the phone directory to select users by last name.
Project managers working with clients will need to update their clients with their DID if they had previously been using the 4-digit extensions, but DID numbers themselves will be retained as-is. If a client was previously using a 10-digit direct line to a project manager before the swap of phone systems, they can continue to use this number after the swap.
Before the swap, the IT department will be physically visiting most of the TPD offices to remove the desk phones and reconnect desktops to the network. Standard TPD equipment provided to employees includes headsets. If your headset is in need of refreshment after a few years of use, please reach out to the IT department through our ticketing system.
Please stay tuned for an article next month that will go further in detail on this upcoming change, informative documents on the TPD Community on how to use the software, and communicative emails detailing steps as we move forward.
While desks will no longer have desk phones, we’re committed to working with users as needed to best support individual workflows.
Thank you for your efforts in learning and adapting to new software. Please reach out to IT if you have any questions regarding the logistics of this upgrade.

When measuring growth, it is important to reflect on the past to see progress. As we step into another year, it’s a great time to pause, look back, and revisit the moments, milestones, and efforts that made 2025 such a meaningful year. The Committee lost and gained great members throughout the year, but despite the changes, CARES found a way to continue and expand our efforts. The Committee and its members are committed to thoughtful, result-driven conversations and staying aligned with our yearly goals to support TPD's growth. We encourage TPDers to evolve by providing the education and resources necessary for success, while also expanding our impact by recruiting, informing, and bringing valuable resources to others through our education initiatives.
With growth, change often comes, and there were many changes that occurred last year. One change was the evolution of the Committee’s name to TPD CARES (Committee for Accessing Resources and Education for Success). While the name changed, our goals have remained the same, if not strengthened.

The Committee believes our efforts create a strong and needed presence that fosters fairness, inclusion, and a sense of value for all TPDers.
Recruitment is an important part of evolving. Welcoming new and fresh faces introduces diverse mindsets, ideas, and perspectives that strengthen our company. CARES members not only attended more HBCU career fairs in 2025 (pictured left), but also assisted with developing relationships with the Howard University (HU) Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). In November, Nadiyah Bell (TPD CARES Member) and Eric Kramer (TPD Spectrum Co-Chair) gave a technical presentation to the HU chapter of ITE students. The presentation was well-received, with students engaging in discussions about next steps after graduation and how to prepare for a position at TPD. Throughout 2025, the Committee continued building connections with the HU chapter of NSBE and is proud to a sponsor in 2026, as well as a sponsor for the Annual NSBE Conference.
TPD CARES recruitment efforts extend beyond the collegiate level, delivering presentations via Teams to students at Antietam Senior High School. The Committee believes it is important to plant the seed early, sparking interest in civil engineering, particularly transportation engineering, among younger generations, strengthening the industry’s future pipeline. You may recall in the August 2024 BtL article, “Challenge Accepted: The Next Generation,” by former TPDer Kristy Carter, she spoke about how the industry is beginning to face workforce shortage due to the limited number of
students graduating with civil engineering degrees. This shortage makes it increasingly difficult to fill gaps created by retirements and new position openings, especially as the demand for new and improved infrastructure continues to grow. TPD CARES plans to expand the number of high school connections over years to come - this is only the beginning.
As we look at the accomplishments of our ERGs, TPD Spectrum continues to display great leadership and connectivity with their members. The CoChairs, Kerianne Chen and Eric Kramer, have been doing a phenomenal job paving the way as the first Employee Resource Group. From quarterly meetings to community service initiatives to companywide professional development events, they have established a great presence in our company. In August, TPD Spectrum organized donations towards the Attic Youth Center in Philadelphia, which helps provide support for LGBTQ+ youth.
They also hosted a Volunteer Park Clean-Up in November (pictured right), where members gathered at Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown, Philadelphia to participate in Love Your Park Week. To end 2025, Spectrum hosted a two-part TPDU with the Mazzoni Center, a Philadelphia-based organization focused on health and wellness for LGBTQIA+ individuals, on the Fundamentals of the LGBTQIA+ identity and experience, and how it relates to the workplace. The presenter, May Booth, went over the differences of gender expression, assigned sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pronouns, and more. TPD CARES is looking forward to what TPD Spectrum plans for 2026!
TPD CARES would also like to highlight the formation of our newest Employee Resource Group, TPD EmpowHER, led by Co-Chairs Kerry Kalinoski and Teresa Martinez. EmpowHER was officially approved in October and hit the ground running, hosting their first community service event! Their food drive collected food and monetary donations for local food pantries, totaling around 500 pounds of food and $600 to support families in need. TPD CARES cannot wait to see what our new ERG has in store for the new year!

With all the successes CARES had in 2025, we believe we can have even greater success in 2026. As briefly mentioned, the Community lost and gained great members throughout the year. For much of 2025, the committee was short-staffed and trying to fill a vacancy in our committee membership. We are now grateful to have recently welcomed Dave Nicola as the newest member of TPD CARES in mid-December. Dave is TPD’s new Vice President of Business Development and possesses a wealth of experience in business development, government affairs, and strategic partnership building, particularly in New Jersey. We are fully expecting Dave to use his skillset and contacts to keep TPD, as well as TPD CARES, Moving Forward Together®!
TPD CARES worked over the past year on advancing our Committee and connecting with the employees of the company more. We have ensured our CARES Suggestion Box is up and running, gained new members who offer essential insight to our Committee, and improved our internal and external presence. We have many plans for the upcoming year to continue to progress and grow our Committee and community. Most importantly, TPD CARES cannot do any of this work without you. The Committee is always looking for suggestions for improvement, guests at our Committee meetings, and any ideas you may have! Reach out to us at TPDCARES@TPDinc.com.

Our 10th year of the 12 Ways of Giving Program was an incredible success. Thanks to the generosity of TPDers, along with support from family and friends, we donated over $12,500 to community organizations across the region... and that number doesn’t even include the personally donated toys and food, the many hours of volunteer service, or things like the priceless bonding squares delivered to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) families, supportive smiles or kind words shared with the people who dedicate their lives to running these organizations.
It’s worth highlighting that personal donations made up more than 20% of this year’s total! This is an amazing testament to the heart of our team. Way to go, and thank you.
I also want to extend a special thank you to everyone who volunteered or helped identify and

coordinate this year’s 12 Ways of Giving events. The end of the year is a busy time for us all, and your willingness to give your time and energy does not go unnoticed. This program has grown into something far more meaningful than a donation drive. For me personally, it’s an opportunity to connect with TPDers I don’t often hear from, and to come together in support of our communities. Your generosity, whether through financial contributions, donated supplies, volunteer hours, or delivering items, made a real and lasting impact, and I am deeply proud of our team.
As always, we focused on supporting causes local to our offices, extending a helping hand to community members across the eastern United States. Our collective efforts this year will continue to make a difference long after the season ends. We came together in a big way, and we should all be

proud of what we accomplished. If you have ideas for future giving initiatives, I would love to hear them. Here is a full summary of all 12 initiatives:
Operation 143 collects food and drink donations, which volunteers pack into bags to support foodinsecure students across six school districts in Chester, Berks, and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania. Together, our team packed 120 bags filled with more than 3,350 items, ensuring students have nourishing meals to take home for the week, as well as the holiday break. TPD is proud to be a part of this effort to fight food insecurity and support our local communities!
Our Philadelphia office partnered with MANNA again this year, to support their mission of nourishing neighbors in need. Together, we joined MANNA staff in preparing and packaging medically tailored meals... meals that serve as a prescription for individuals living with life-threatening illnesses, helping them maintain strength and a healthy diet. The meals are prepared in MANNA’s Philadelphia facility and shipped across Pennsylvania, ensuring clients receive the care they need. In addition, our team delivered a donation, reinforcing our dedication to community support.

On a Saturday in November, TPDers participated in our first volunteering opportunity as part of our annual 12 Ways of Giving Program! TPD sponsored the Bucks County Intermediate Unit’s Fab Lab “Career Explorers” STEAM session... and it was a blast! A group of 5 TPDers teamed up with 40 curious kids to explore transportation engineering through hands-on activities like Bridge Bonanza, Sphero Test Track, Mario Kart Challenge, and more! Our team shared what it’s like to be a transportation engineer and helped guide students through creative challenges that blended science, tech, and fun. It was our pleasure to support the Fab Lab’s mission to make STEAM education accessible and exciting for all ages. It was a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation of innovators!
Now an annual tradition, our incredible TPDers joined hands with Today is a Good Day (TIAGD) to support families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Founded by Martha Sharkey, herself a NICU mom, TIAGD provides care packages, emotional and financial support, and so much more to families across the tri-state area and beyond. During Martha’s visit, we had the privilege of learning about TIAGD’s inspiring mission, weaving fabric bonding squares that will help babies and parents connect through scent and contributed a financial donation to further their impact. 5 4 3

Sensory FIT is an inclusive community space and social enterprise for all abilities. They recently moved to their new Malvern, PA location in order to accommodate adults. Sensory FIT was founded by a TPDers' family member, to provide a one-ofa-kind sensory gym where all ages and abilities can come together for movement, games, social time, and exciting activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. TPD donated over $600 which will go toward their new scholarship program which will help pay for skills programs like cooking and computer work, helping individuals build confidence, social skills and independence.
The next stop on our 12 Ways of Giving volunteering trail was in West Chester, PA at the Brandywine Valley SPCA! Our group of 13 helped the SPCA prep for their massive free vaccine clinic that was coming up over the weekend at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, as well as cleaned cages, stuffed kongs, and got our fair share of puppy snuggles. This is a day we look forward to every year and are happy we can help in whatever ways that are needed!
Through the Salvation Army's Adopt a Family program, social workers identify families in "crisis situations" (like fire/flood in the home, death in the immediate family, domestic violence which caused a move/starting over, etc.) that qualify them for their program. This program gives each family the ability to step outside of their circumstances on Christmas Day and enjoy the holiday as a family. All members of our “adopted” family of 3 received every item requested on their Christmas lists, as well as a $500 gift card for their local supermarket to help out during the holiday season!
TPD once again served as a Toys for Tots drop-off location. With help from community members, our staff and their family members, we collected 236 toys – that’s 78 more than last year – that went to local families in need via the US Marine Corps Reserve’s program! 9 8 7 6
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a non-profit organization that honors the memory of FDNY firefighter, Stephen Siller, who died on 9/11 after running through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to reach the Twin Towers. The foundation provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders and Gold Star families, and builds specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. It also works to address veteran homelessness by developing state-of-the-art veteran villages. TPD made a $900 donation to help the cause this year!
The Food Bank of Delaware's mission is to inspire hope in their communities by providing food to nourish Delawareans, while collaborating on longterm solutions to hunger and poverty. This year TPD collected non-perishable food in support of their mission and delivered to their location in Newark, DE!
Moms Helping Moms Foundation (MHM) of Warren, NJ collects baby and feminine care supplies with a mission to create a future without childhood poverty by providing babies with the essentials to ensure a safe and healthy start. They collect new and gently used baby items, diapers and supplies with the help of over 300 volunteers, and distribute them through their community service partners to underserved families who reside all throughout New Jersey. We delivered a donation when we visited to help volunteer in the warehouse with sorting, organizing and anything else they needed help with that day!
For two wish-based organizations, Make-A-Wish and One Simple Wish, TPD helped grant individual's wishes. Make-A-Wish grants life-changing wishes for children experiencing critical illnesses. One Simple Wish grants wishes for individuals impacted by foster care and crisis. Our group made a total donation of ~$3,000 to the organizations to make those dreams a reality!

In November, TPD’s CARES group, EmpowHER, launched its very first community service initiative: a holiday food drive supporting local families impacted by recent changes to SNAP benefits. Women are disproportionately impacted by food insecurity - this is a small way EmpowHER wanted to make a difference for women and families in our communities. Thanks to the generosity of the TPD team, we were able to make a meaningful difference in our surrounding communities.
Across two physical deliveries to the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry (Collegeville, PA) and the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities (Pottstown, PA), we contributed approximately 500 pounds of food, including:
• 90 lbs canned vegetables
• 85 lbs pasta & pasta sauce
• 60 lbs Hormel meals
• 60 lbs peanut butter & jelly
• 40 lbs canned meats
• 40 lbs soup
• 40 lbs cake mix & frosting
• 30 lbs SpaghettiOs
• 20 lbs breakfast foods
• 20 lbs snacks
In addition to food donations, we raised $600 to be split evenly between Second Harvest Food Bank (Nazareth, PA) and St. Francis Inn (Philadelphia, PA)! This initiative reflects the heart of EmpowHER’s
mission: uplifting others and creating positive change both within TPD and in our communities. By combining physical and monetary donations, we supported four local food banks and helped ease the burden for families during the holiday season. A huge thank you goes to everyone who donated, organized, and spread the word. Your contributions made this launch a success and set the tone for future EmpowHER initiatives! Special Big Ups to Kerry Kalinoski and Teresa Martinez, EmpowHER Co-Chairs, for running this successful drive!

Just half of the approximately 500 lbs of food donations contributed, thanks to the efforts of EmpowHER!

One benefit to using Box.com includes the robust search options available only on the website. Here’s an example case for how to make your searches as granular as possible when searching through 8 million files!
Let’s pretend that my boss just asked for an Excel spreadsheet for a client I billed to over the summer last year, but I don’t know which subfolder that was in and it’s been far too long to check my recent files in Excel. Let’s build a custom search on Box.com to find that file I know I worked on…
1. First, navigate to the search bar at the top of Box. com and select the “Show Filters” option on the right side.
2. I’d start by typing in a keyword for the file. Maybe all those spreadsheets have the word “Traffic” or “Summary” in it. That would be a good place to start.
3. Next, try to specify the file type. Was it for sure an Excel document? Or maybe my process involved turning those spreadsheets into PDFs and deleting the original, so let’s pick Spreadsheet, PDF, and Document, just to be safe.
4. As for “Date Updated,” I could specify a range of about 3 months over the summer, since my timecard includes time billed to that client from that range. But maybe I’m not sure, since my boss’s process involves marking the document after it’s reviewed. So, let’s leave it blank.
5. I skip over “Owner” because the criteria won’t work the way I want it. While I created the file, the ownership in Box is inherited from the user that created the folder, so it will always be Information Technology.

"In Folder” criteria narrows down a location. You don’t have to be super specific for the “In a specific folder” option, for example you can select Active folder or entire client-level folders. In this case, I’d pick the client my boss asked about, perhaps even
the job number. That would really narrow it down. At this point, I’d hit the “Search” button in the bottom right, as that last criteria would probably do most of the work in narrowing it down, but sometimes you know the contents of a file but not its name or you’re looking for a folder name only.
As with any tool, practice makes better! This is a helpful skill to have, but if you find yourself unsure of how to set up a search to find your file, IT is always happy to help.
Each month will cover a different topic or Box tip. If you have any suggestions for topics or any questions regarding these segments, please email IT@TPDinc.com.

As we continue to grow, it can be challenging getting to know everyone personally. The goal for this column is to help our staff members become more acquainted with the coworker on the other end of the phone (or computer screen). Additionally, we would like to help staff pass down their memorable stories, insight and wisdom to benefit fellow coworkers!
YEAR YOU STARTED AT TPD 2023
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?
My first job ever was being a Math Tutor and Grader at a Kumon Learning Center.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR CURRENT ROLE?
I really enjoy seeing the whole process of a project as it progresses. Sometimes when I'm starting a project, I wonder how the design is going to look and if it will work. There are a lot of challenges to face while getting from existing conditions to the final design phase and seeing how creative we can get to achieve our goal is one of my favorite things about this role.
WHAT'S A SMALL HABIT THAT’S MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN YOUR DAY - TODAY WORK?
Writing down tasks and due dates allows me to visualize what needs to be done and helps me stay on track of my workload.
WHAT IS AN IMPORTANT TRAIT TO HAVE WHILE WORKING IN THE AEC INDUSTRY?
Being open to constructive criticism and understanding that you will always be learning on the job, no matter how much work experience you may have. I still see engineers with decades of experience asking for help throughout the company. Don’t be afraid to go to networking events, and try to drag someone you know along with you. It may be intimidating going to these events, especially by yourself, but if you put yourself out there, it can be very rewarding. Younger staff should not be afraid to ask questions. It is helpful to us that we know how you’re feeling and if there are things you may not understand. We are here to help and we are happy to do so!
ARE THERE ANY PERSONAL ROUTINES THAT HELP YOU STAY GROUNDED OUTSIDE OF TPD?
I make sure that I have some sort of movement of my body every day of the week. Its even more important during the work week. Sometimes we get stuck at our desks without moving for hours, and I am sure to be intentional with staying on top of my health, which then helps me be a better worker.

I've known about TPD for a long time. A current TPD employee approached me about joining and it sounded like a good place to work.
TPD is looking to grow in Western PA and my previous experience complements the planned growth and development of the highway group.
Associates in Mechanical Engineering Technology: Pittsburgh Technical College; BA expected graduation 2027: Penn College of Technology Business Administration
PREVIOUS PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Previously served as an instructor at Pittsburgh Technical College, teaching Mechanical Engineering Technology CAD courses. Served as a project coordinator with experience in mechanical and piping design, as well as handson mechanical design experience utilizing CAD software to support manufacturing and engineering projects.
I found TPD while searching for engineering firms in the Pittsburgh area and reviewing career opportunities on individual company websites, where I applied directly through TPD's site.
I chose TPD because the company's values strongly align with what I was looking for both professionally and personally, especially a healthy work-life balance as I prepare to become a new mother.
I'm a very creative person outside of work. I enjoy 3D modeling, sculpting, creating miniatures, and painting.

COMMENT 1:
TPD gazebo. Add curb appeal and offer a place outside on nice days.
RESPONSE:
This would be a cost covered by the Condo Association. TPD will investigate.
COMMENT 2:
I think it would be beneficial if the Learning Center was somewhere on the SharePoint (TPD Intranet) page.
RESPONSE:
These links were added to the Human Resources section of the Community (see screenshot at right).
COMMENT 3:
Having three different training portals does not seem ideal. Is there a way we can use one or integrate them together? Mimecast for the IT training seems to be the easiest to use and it also has the nicest interface. Thank you!
RESPONSE:
While we understand the confusion, utilizing multiple platforms allows us to access multiple different libraries of training in order to give our staff the most well-rounded offerings possible. If anyone has any questions, Kerry Kalinoski is always happy to answer questions about which training platform is being used for a specific training.
As always, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to discuss them with your manager or submit them via the virtual Suggestion Box. Thank you for providing valuable feedback to guide TPD in improving our workplace.
