Design of UFO:

Either zip ties or the utility wire will be used fastened through a hole drilled out into the PVC and keeps the four base rods ufo shape and infrastructure.

The T connectors are added to the rods which are then connected on the sides of the top base.

The top base is connected through corner connectors and makes a square for the dome (umbrella) to sit on top of

Prototype with screws in and fully connected. Part of the ufo is covered in duct tape as a cover which would give the ship a metal look.

The rim of the model had two supports in the back held higher with buckets and there were two supports on the back sides to keep the rim from slouching or breaking apart.

The pvc pipes were connected on the sides with the zip ties and the top base measured 52” on each sides.

Once the pipes were in the t-connectors and screwed into the top base, there were extra supports needed from the side to help hold it up.

We eventually just gave up on trying to have a bottom and made it hollow, so we could add ground supports in order to hold the structure up and make it a lot sturdier.

After duct tape is applied with of the addition of the umbrella at the top as the ufo hatch, and lights on the rim and inside to show the tape layers to get it a metal look. The inside lights also illuminates the ship more and gives it a green look. Final Product.

Josh and Natalie Reflections What went right: The idea was constructed well and was basically the same as the product, except with some tweaks as construction went on. The idea with the tape worked well on the final product and gave the same effect. We made due with all the pvc pipes with having enough and using it effectively on the product without wasting much. The rim or bottom base for the ship went together pretty smoothly except with some falling apart during construction. In the end when the ufo was in the dark, and had lights on the rim and illuminating it from the inside, It didn’t look too bad after all. What went wrong: Some days there would be setbacks, because of not having the right connectors, missing connectors, and a lack of knowledge on the exact sizes that we needed. The drill failed on us so we had to bring a new one along with tools from our homes that we did not always have at the moment. The prototype structure worked a lot more effectively, because it was shorter and the design of the didn’t hold up too well on the actual model. The top structure was too big for the umbrella, because we had to go off of measurements online and we didn’t have that at the time, but we had to make due.The structure wouldn’t hold up unlike the prototype, so extra supports had to be added in the ground and on the side which wasn’t originally a part of the plan. During taping, because it had to be pulled tight, it pulled the center structure apart and more screws had to be put in so it would hold. The tape also bent the pvc on the original structure and added a lot of stress on the supports. It didn’t get the right angle that we wanted, but there was no other way we could think of that would hold the structure up that way.

We strung wire through the top of shower curtains and through metal poles stuck in cement buckets. We cut slits in the shower curtains so that the wind could pass through and they would not be knocked over. We used flats for the bedroom walls and put a curtain and two posters on it, using our black light flashlights to help them glow. (Natalie) We used a total of six bucket with three of them filled with cement so as a base to keep the poles up. Had to cut a metal pole into three pieces with a hacksaw and each bucket had have cement to to surround the poles, so another one can fit inside. Three buckets needed to be filled and used a 50 lb bag plus some from another.
