Yes, I know it’s a little early for Christmas but this is our last home match and our last matchday programme before the festive period. We have two away matches after today and then Christmas will be upon us again. Looking at where we were this time last year, we find ourselves in a similar position in 2nd place in the Premier Division and looking to push on in the New Year – this is very much the case again in 2025. Our opponents today – Kings Hill – were flying high at the top of Division 1 C&E before Christmas and essentially stayed at the top of the division until the very end of the season when Aylesford pipped them for the title in their last game of the campaign. Both teams were promoted from the division and both have impressive records so far in the Premier Division and are firmly in the top half of the league table.

With my caretaker management role (!) for the 3rd team, I have missed a couple of Hartsdown Park home games and whilst I perhaps would prefer a less stressful wander around the pitch watching the first team (and probably chatting more than watching), I have enjoyed managing the young 1911 team who play in the Canterbury & District League. Two wins and three defeats might not have improved my managerial CV, but I have been impressed by the quality of our youngsters as they are stepping into adult football. Invariably, they are facing physical tests in games but they are not shirking away from the battle and this experience is hopefully standing them in good stead for the future. We have already given two or three of the players an opportunity with the reserve team as a taste of what is to come – and they haven’t looked out of place. With the way that we run our three adults teams as a mini pathway, it can lead to many headaches in terms of selection and balance of the three squads – some weeks there are players who have been promoted upwards but who may then only get 15-20 minutes of playing time. It’s a good headache to have and we have buy in from the players who understand that we have their best interests for progression at heart

And so back to this afternoon, we welcome Patrick and his Kings Hill squad to Thanet this afternoon as well as our referee Will and his assistants Thomas & Tom.

If I don't see you in the next few weeks, then I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Last week we took on Stansfeld in a game that was remarkable for the rapidity in which we took control of it. Goals after the 3rd, 8th, 14th and 18th minutes saw us take an unassailable lead and one that we were worthy of for our performance in those first twenty minutes or so. Stansfeld are certainly better than their league position suggests but our pace and pressing was too much for them to cope with in the opening minutes and we ultimately did enough in this time to earn the right to win the game. John Argyrides opened the scoring with a neat finish after a fine through ball and from this moment on we took total control. Ollie Harris extended the scoring a few minutes later and he fired home across goal from the edge of the box 10 minutes later to double his tally Jake Munday converted from inside the box following to add another to his tally for the season and we had scored four goals before the 20th minute of the game. From this point onwards we were able to manage the game effectively and restricted Stansfeld to few chances and despite not adding to our tally we saw out the game for a comfortable 4-1 victory, Stansfeld scoring from a corner midway through the second half. Despite the unusual cluster of goal scoring, we were more than worthy of the victory in terms of our all round performance.

1st Team Manager Ian Wallace

This victory was our third in as many league games with us scoring 13 goals and conceding just 2 in that time. The win lifted us to second in the league table behind Falconwood who we play next week. Today represents the half way point of an extended season and we have been pleased with our league form overall. Earlier in the season we were grinding out results in many games but in recent weeks we have certainty hit our stride more fully in a number of the games played and we know we will need to maintain our good form as we move into the new year as we seek to build on this good return in the first half of the season. Falconwood away next week certainly provides a challenge against the newly promoted team and their form has been excellent up until this point in the season. Our final game of 2025 takes place away to Meridian on 20th December and at the time of writing we do not know our January fixtures.

So we arrive at the footnote of our last programme of 2025 and I would like to take this chance to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year. I would like to take this moment to thank all of the people involved at the clu many hours and so much expertise goes into small number of volunteers, they all know who no desire for thanks but their efforts are alway amazing job for this club and this community. that support the various teams each week, we your support! Thank you to the players who re week with distinction, the values we hold dear players and it is important these values are m for the young players that will follow in future i

I hope you enjoy the game today, have a fant period and see you in January!

Thank you Minster Meze & Grill who are sponsoring The Hinds team kit

You will have seen from the club crest that we are over 100 years old with only World Wars getting in the way of continued existence – a matter not taken lightly as club players and staff fought for their country during these difficult times. If you get a chance take a look at the club photos at our pavilion main hall that reminds us of our history and the generations of players that have represented our club.

Throughout these years there have been successful teams – most notably in the 1960s – that have played the game in the right spirit and have set the foundations for future generations to continue. A difficult time in the early 1980s saw the club – with only a single team at the time - almost fail to finish a season in the Thanet League due to lack of players and support.

My father Ralph (also known locally as Colin) stepped in to gather as many eligible youngsters – including myself – to register and play those final matches to keep the club alive. The results didn’t matter – there was a much larger motive to keep the continuity of the club. For us 16/17 year old lads at the time we were finally playing for Minster – a team we had watched from the sidelines for many years. The following seasons saw the club continue to build from the very bottom upwards.

Our club has now grown very quickly in these last 11-12 years as we have built on the success of a very young team – managed by Ian Wallace - that have progressed through the Canterbury & District League and further into the Kent County Football League to the Premier Division where we have consolidated our standing in this division. Two further adult teams were added in 2019/2020 and during these last 5 years we have seen our club develop a pathway for young players within the area to progress with their football. Our veterans team continue to enjoy their football in the local len Martin Thanet & District League. We are also really happy to now have four youth teams represent Minster from U15 to U18 age groups and our previous youth teams have provided players into our adults squads This season also sees the club develop a women ' s football team for the first time since the 1960s when Minster were one of the original female teams in the area.

Whilst we have had good fortune on the pitch these last few years backed by a huge amount of effort away from match days, we continue to be a club that see long term friendships and a sense of community spirit as being the real “winning.”

A village team that will continue to use football to build competitive spirit alongside friendships that will last a lifetime.
