Horizon invites audiences into a sacred realm — a place between sea and sky, where the sun rises and falls and the light is new. This cross-cultural collaboration brings together leading Māori choreographer Moss Te Ururangi Patterson and acclaimed Bangarra alumna Deborah Brown, who guide an award-winning ensemble through stories that honour their mother countries and the spirit that calls them home.
Brown, a proud descendent of the Wakaid Clan and Meriam people in the Torres Strait with Scottish heritage, draws on the strength and resilience of her ancestors. Patterson, born near Lake Taupō and a mokopuna of the Ngāti Tūwharetoa tribe, carries his sense of home like a living fire within him.
The work opens with Sani Townson’s expanded Kulka, a vibrant homage to his Torres Strait heritage and his grandfather’s legacy. Together, these pieces explore the cultural forces that bind us together, across oceans and eons. Experience the resilience of the First Peoples of the Oceania region, that extends across the continent now known as Australia, the Torres Strait Islands and Aotearoa, our southern neighbour.

Townsville Civic Theatre and C2 provide accessible entrances to all main areas of the venue, with easy access facilities available for patrons and their companions.
The venue floor-level grants access to the bar and foyer with external and internal ramps located on either side of the foyer to access the auditorium through doors 1 and 2. Additionally, an elevator is located next to the TicketShop counter for access to doors 4 and 6.
An external ramp is located at the stage door for performers and production staff to access backstage, and an internal elevator is located backstage for access to all dressing rooms and the orchestra pit.
Complimentary loan wheelchairs can also be booked through TicketShop to assist with movement throughout the building.

A drop-off and pick-up driveway is located at the front of Townsville Civic Theatre, positioned near the flagpoles for direct entry to the venue.
Hearing Assistance
Townsville Civic Theatre provides Assisted Listening Infrared receivers for use in the main auditorium only. These can be paired with headphones or a neck loop for use in conjunction with hearing aids (telecoil), with full coverage to all seats. Ask our friendly staff to collect a receiver and enhance your theatre experience. The foyer is also equipped with a telecoil hearing loop for announcements and important information prior to entering the auditorium — no receiver required.

Relaxed Performances
We want everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy their visit to the Townsville Civic Theatre. Relaxed performances are designed for anyone who benefits from a more casual, supportive environment. These sessions are especially welcoming for patrons with sensory sensitivities, with sound and lighting cues adjusted to gentler levels and a relaxed approach to movement and noise during the performance.

Content Warnings
Performances may include special effects such as smoke, haze, strobe lighting, fire or pyrotechnics. While all effects are produced to the highest safety standards, we will always strive to inform you of their use when we have prior knowledge. Additional warnings may also be displayed for content such as adult themes or strong language.
Age Recommendations
While we provide age recommendations for performances, parental and guardian discretion is advised. These recommendations will be displayed with the online information for each show.
Mobile Phones, Devices and Recording
For the comfort of fellow patrons, mobile phones and devices must be turned off during performances. For copyright reasons, all recording devices are strictly prohibited unless otherwise stated for a specific performance.
Prams and wheelchair storage
If you’re bringing a pram or wheelchair to the Townsville Civic Theatre, simply speak with our ushers at the auditorium door. They’ll be happy to store it for you while you enjoy the show.
E-Tickets
We now offer e-Tickets which can be emailed to you at the time of purchase. You can print your tickets at home and bring them with you, or simply save them to your phone. Please show your tickets to the usher at the auditorium door upon entry. If your tickets are on your phone, the usher may ask you to enlarge the ticket image and increase your screen brightness so our scanners can easily read the barcode.
Companion Card
Companion Card holders are eligible for a complimentary companion ticket to most performances. We ask that the card holder contact TicketShop to provide their Companion Card details when making a booking, and present the valid ID card when collecting their tickets.
Proof of Concession
Discounted concession prices are available for most productions. Proof of concession must be shown when collecting tickets. To check your eligibility for a specific production, please contact TicketShop or visit our website.
Fees
Transaction fees apply to bookings made by phone or online. No transaction fees are charged for over-the-counter purchases at any TicketShop outlet. A credit card surcharge applies to all credit card transactions. Visa and Mastercard are accepted; all other card types are not.
Refunds & Exchanges
Townsville Civic Theatre follows the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice (see liveperformance.com.au for full conditions). In accordance with this code, tickets cannot be refunded after purchase unless an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated as outlined.
Gift Certificates
Give the ultimate gift of live performance and create lasting memories for your family and friends. Gift certificates are subject to TicketShop terms and conditions. They are valid for all productions sold through TicketShop and must be redeemed before the expiry date. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash and are non-refundable.
Food and Drink in the Auditorium
You can now enjoy a cold beverage in the auditorium during a performance. However, hot drinks such as tea and coffee are not permitted.

Getting to the Theatre
The Townsville Civic Theatre is located at 41 Boundary Street, South Townsville, next to Reid Park and just a short stroll from Palmer Street and the CBD. The venue is easily accessible by walking, motor vehicle bike, or bus.
Townsville Civic Theatre staff can assist with booking a taxi upon request. Bike racks are also available on the theatre grounds.
