As we approach National Police Week this May, I would like to take a moment to recognize and honor the dedicated men and women of the Severance Police Department.
This week holds deep personal meaning for me. As a retired law enforcement officer, I understand the weight of the responsibility our officers carry and the sacrifices they and their families make every day. Policing is more than a profession; it is a calling rooted in service, integrity, and courage.
National Police Week is also a time of remembrance. I have lost brothers and sisters in law enforcement, individuals who served with honor and gave their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks officers face and the courage required to wear the badge.
Here in Severance, our officers serve with professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to this community Much of what they do happens quietly, without recognition, but their impact is felt every day in the safety and security we often take for granted.
I encourage our community to take a moment during National Police Week to show appreciation for our officers A simple thank you or gesture of support can go a long way in acknowledging their service.
To the Severance Police Department, thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your continued commitment to keeping our community safe.

The single most important thing a resident can do is post a clearly visible “No Solicitation” or “No Trespassing” sign at or near your front door
Once a sign is posted, all commercial solicitors must skip your home. This includes people with a valid Town permit.
The sign is your opt-out. No extra steps and no list to join.

You will be able to view and interact with multiple types on vehicles that may include: Snowplows, Motor Grader, Skid Steer, Mini-Excavator, Backhoe, Trash Truck, Police Vehicles and a Fire Truck.

In the interest of safety to our residents, the Town of Severance conducts ongoing Integrated Mosquito Management beginning June 1st. The goal of this program is to monitor and reduce mosquito populations through the use of environmentally sound control techniques in order to protect residents from the threat of mosquito-borne diseases.
Vector Disease Control is the provider of these services. VDC and the town communicate with the Weld County Department of Health and Environment, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and surrounding municipalities in order to ensure that the highest level of mosquito control is achieved. This diligent and cooperative communication is important to the Town of Severance's mosquito management program and provides significant benefits to public health throughout the entire area.
Traps are used to monitor the assorted types of mosquito population and, based on the weekly trap findings, VDC conducts mosquito spraying (fogging) throughout the community when weather conditions are conducive to the best effectiveness Questions about the program can be directed to Broox Boze with Vector Disease Control at 970-2789977. Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture has established a scholarship program that offers financial assistance for youth athletic/program registrations to residents of Severance under 18 years.

The Planning Department continues to review several development applications across Town. Below is a summary of projects currently under review.
Northgate Lake (Final Plat): 315 acres north of Harmony Road and east of CR 21, proposing 600 single-family homes with future mixed uses and open space.
WinDance (Preliminary Plat): 168 acres north of Highway 392, proposing approximately 569 single-family homes and 34 acres of open space.
Saddler Ridge Tracts 9 & 10 (Final Plat): 11 acres north of SH 14, proposing paired homes and single-family lots.
Schlagel Minor Subdivision: Four rural residential lots west of CR 21.
Saddler Southern (Preliminary Plat): 46 acres proposing singlefamily homes and commercial space.
Berrado Holdings (Minor Subdivision): 20-acre lot for an existing PRPA electrical substation.
Bower North (Preliminary Plat): 160 acres south of Hunters Crossing and west of CR 19, proposing 31 large residential lots, 278 single family, 5-acre commercial area and open space.
Several of these projects will move forward to public hearings before the Planning Commission and Town Council.
Single Family Homes
Constructed through April of 2026
The traffic lights at both the intersections of WCR 19/E Harmony and Ponderosa/E Harmony have been completed and are fully functional. The second phase of this project will begin later this summer and include the construction of a sidewalk on the south side of E. Harmony, east of Ponderosa, and the timed signaling of the three Town-owned traffic lights.
The waterline to the existing southern restrooms and future northern restrooms has been completed. The southern restrooms by the ballfields should be opened in late June or early July The last of the grading and underground work will be completed in May, and starting in June, concrete, asphalt, and structural work will begin.
The paving for this project has been completed, and the trail is expected to open in early June. The pedestrian rapid-flashing crossing beacons for E. Harmony and WCR 23 are on backorder and should arrive in July; they will be installed upon arrival and will not cause another closure.
This summer, Lakeview Park will receive a full renovation of the playground equipment and surfacing This new all-inclusive layout will include two play features with multiple slides, two swing sets for several age groups, turtle steps, and a 20-foot Gaga Pit.

The Town of Severance is excited to move forward with the next phase of improvements at Community Park, a significant investment in recreation, connectivity, and quality of life for our residents
Community Park will be temporarily closed during the next phase of construction. Construction activities will include significant site work and infrastructure improvements that require full closure to ensure public safety.
Park Closure: The park will be closed when construction begins, scheduled for the beginning of February. Construction is anticipated to last until Fall 2026.
Purpose: Delivery of the next phase of this large, long-term capital improvement project is designed to enhance amenities, usability, and overall park experience.
We recognize that Community Park is a valued gathering space, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we complete this important work. The result will be a park that better serves residents for generations to come.

May is Bike Safety Month. So, be sure to check on your little ones and big ones to ensure they each have a helmet while riding and also know the rules of the road as it relates to bike riding. The most important safety measures are that you stop at all intersections, look both ways when crossing a street, and don’t ride at night without having lights on your bike and or person. Schools will be out soon so more bike riders will be on our public roads.
As we have put out to the public previously, the use of eMotorcycles, go-carts, or side-by-sides on public streets is illegal. We have stopped and warned several children and their parents over the past two months regarding eMotorcycles on public streets. Please help us keep our kids safe by not allowing them to ride these types of vehicles on our streets.
May is also the month the members of the Severance Police Department and Town of Severance celebrate National Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and National Police Week, which this year is May 10 through 16th. Federal Statutes direct that flags be flown at half-staff on May 15th in honor of fallen Officers and their Families. There are 24,775 names of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. dating back to the first know death in 1786. There have been 365 Officers/Deputies killed in the line of duty in Colorado dating back to 1862.
Unfortunately, we are still missing two new town signs from CO 14 and WCR 23. We would greatly appreciate their return. No questions asked. If anyone has information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who may have stolen them, you are eligible for our Town Good Citizen Program which provides a reward up to $1,000.00.
